One of the most fatal errors in pop music is the assumption that drummers and bassists can be easily replaced. Wrong in most cases, here it proved to be absolutely idiotic. McGee and Forbes were brilliant by themselves, but together they were unbelievable!

Good songs, fine production and, of course, Forbes' bass playing saved New Gold Dream and Sparkle In The Rain, but Simple Minds should have disbanded when Forbes left.

  • The band should have changed their name Simple Minds almost died when McGee left, they most certainly should have changed their name by the time Once Upon A Time was released.

No their biggest loss was Mick Macneil and Derek Forbes left

  • @MrDemilord The rot had already began to set in way before Macneil left, Sparkle In The Rain, Once Upon & Time and Street Fighting Years.

  • how can you call them has beens?

they have talent, age and wisdom behind them

  • sounds like a great song, just the quality is so bad here :-(

  • Thanks for all the b-sides from SM. Never heard the vast majority of them.
