I find it hard to believe that you have actually read the Bible from cover to cover without reading it for all that it's worth. Having said that, there are anemic churches, and there are healthy and well-balanced churches.
No, there's no perfect congregation. Many of the worst people I've known were born-again Christians. The Baptist pastor of one church I attended embezzled money from elderly people living in the church's retirement home and fled town. I recently found out that the married music director of the So. Baptist church where I was a member years ago had been molesting young men from my college. And one of the deacons was beating his wife.
Then they were not REAL CHRISTIANS. It's people's actions, not words that define their TRUE character. I never met a true Christian who betrayed their faith by saying one thing and then doing another. Sorry to hear of your experiences. Every faith has its hypocrites. Plenty of examples of that in the Bible. And by the way, who said being "born again" made someone perfect? Think about what I just wrote here and then reply if you like.

Oh, I forgot to mention something the last time we crossed paths. If you want me to get a proper education, I already have it. It's called the Bible. Being in Christ and His Word is absolutely first and foremost. Everything else is secondary (and then some). I encourage you to read it from cover to cover -- even if it takes you a year to do so.

I have read the Bible from cover to cover, and after doing so, came to the conclusion that, with all it's contradictions, violence, intolerance, and unscientifically supported claims, it's an interesting piece of superstition, fantasy and fiction. I would suggest that, if you want to be educated, you broaden your mind and read more than just this one erroneous book.

I find it hard to believe that you have actually read the Bible from cover to cover without reading it for all that it's worth. If you did, you probably put all of your preconceived notions into it and paid no attention to its theological underpinnings. Furthermore, there is no fantasy to it. Read Josephus and Philo. They can substantiate it with supporting facts.

I know you don't want to believe someone who has read the Bible can come away from it feeling the way I do. The fact is, at that time I was a disciplined Southern Baptist preparing to be a missionary, & I fell in line the way I was expected to do. At a later point in life, I was removed from that environment and in time (a long healing process) realized I had been enduring years of subtle brainwashing. I believe it is nearly impossible to read the Bible with an OPEN mind and not end up agnostic.

Wouldn't you agree that there is no such thing as a perfect church congregation? After all, the only perfect church will be when we are called Home to be with Him.
Having said that, there are anemic churches, and there are healthy and well-balanced churches.

No, there's no perfect congregation. Many of the worst people I've known were born-again Christians. The Baptist pastor of one church I attended embezzled money from elderly people living in the church's retirement home and fled town. I recently found out that the married music director of the So. Baptist church where I was a member years ago had been molesting young men from my college. And one of the deacons was beating his wife.

Then they were not REAL CHRISTIANS. It's people's actions, not words that define their TRUE character. I never met a true Christian who betrayed their faith by saying one thing and then doing another. Sorry to hear of your experiences. Every faith has its hypocrites. Plenty of examples of that in the Bible. And by the way, who said being "born again" made someone perfect? Think about what I just wrote here and then reply if you like.
