Great Video, I came across a site that helps get your videos exposed. They helped 5 of my videos get ranked on the first page. If you need any help check them out at tubeviews.(net)
Someone tell me how to stretch your fingers to 10 keys on the piano. I can only stretch 8 keys and that's just when my hand is going to tear apart (if you know what I mean).
Yea, I was very pleased and grateful for myself when I made my neighbour play an octave on the piano. His hands are tiny. When struggling to play an octave, he'd his the inner keys beside it. I never knew you could have such small normal hands!
Key to learning. Sit down and hit keys. One day you will figure out what goes and what doesnt. I can finally improv, people ask my what im playing and I say I hit keys, and if they sound right it goes. Usually really random, if I make a wrong note I change key and go with it. Usually ends up sounding aweful but yeah. go figure. Nice job mate:P weird seeing you on a non-electric though..
=) that's how they did it back in the day.. its a great teaching lesson learning like that, but sooner or later, if you want to really get good, one would have to get music lessons from trained people.
true, but its strange how hard it is to get lessons when a poor student when childhood days are over were the parents pay for it and as a kid (most anyways) kid and scream because the piano is a sisy insterment. Until your older, then you curse yourself for not taking free lessons :P
Stienways can be a bit of a bother to play, but their sound is unparalleled. If only Yamahas could get that kind of sound or resonance, then they'd be in business. I wonder if anyone's ever taken the hammer system from a Yamaha and thrown it in a Stienway husk...
That's weird. I have a better time playing piano when it's a little harder to press down on the keys. I in fact don't even like to play keyboards very much. :P
Lol I have bad experiences with bad pianos. The keys on my neighbour's piano are as hard as rock to press down on! Especially difficult for me since my pinky is very weak and flexible and bendable in every which nasty way. Playing the piano, I usually avoid using my pinky fingers as much as possible xD. I've learned to deal with it. Anyways, another good performance. More, more videos! Oh no march break just ended!
Beautiful man! You always have a nack for making songs that flow just so perfectly.
I have to agree with the practice pianos being hard to play. I think it's because I'm used to my keyboard and the weight of the keys that makes it hard for me to play on the uprights. I have no problems playing a grand though...
Yeah, upright keys are usually quite heavy. Although, it does very depending on the particular instrument. The easiest upright model I've ever had the chance to play on was the Yamaha YUS-7.
I do wish upright pianos could match the sound quality of concert grands though, that would be something.
it's just that you can't see your knees and they're plaid so they look like blue plaid pajama pants so before your next video show your knees if your wearing those lol :)
wow, very nice, I was never able to improvise, even though I am playing piano at least 8 years... I heard improvising could be learnt? at least halfway?
The best way to put it, how good is your relative/perfect pitch and do you hear music in your head? I've only been playing for a year on piano, so I'm not someone to look to as far as improvisation, but when I do it, I hear the song in my head, and then I just play what I hear. If you have really good relative pitch or have perfect pitch, you should be able to play as it comes to mind.
yeah, right, easy said : P but if you are able to improvise or play by ear in the first year, then you should be quite a talent... or maybe I just wasn't taught properly back then, and now I am missing it... I would love to know how to play anything that comes onto my mind : )
I was taught to play by ear before I fully learned how to read sheet music. My teacher believes in learning to play songs free style instead of "parroting" sheet music. Two great programs are inpitch and pitch coach (search perfect pitch program on yahoo). They will help you learn the pitch of notes, and the different intervals/chords. That will greatly facilitate playing by ear.
Thanks very much, I will check that out. Btw, you seem to have a great teacher, I definitely agree with her, playing freestyle lets you express yourself on a much higher level, you also have to be aware of the things you do, not doing things automatic like you sometimes do it by playing sheets. It also lets you develop your imagination. Ok, now that I know why it's useful to learn how to improvise, I should start to learn : P
Take it from me, I had no idea what pitch even meant about a year ago, but after practicing and listening to notes, I'm able to discern which note(s) is/are being played when someone plays them. Honestly, it comes from practice more than anything. It's never too late to learn (lets say I'm college aged).
I will warn you, when you start using those programs, it will seem really boring and may seem like you're not making any progress, but give it time! It took me about 3 months learning time
Yeah, anyone can develop very accurate relative pitch. I have been working on it too and you can really benefit from it if you play an instrument yourself.
I found that relative pitch helps more than absolute/perfect pitch when improvising on a piano, but for true accuracy you'd need both. It took me forever to be able to gain perfect pitch over all instruments, but I still haven't been able to fully develop the ability to tell if an instrument is a little on the sharp side or a little on the flat side.
oh sorry let me be more specific. that pattern in the pants your wearing just seemed unique... Its a great musical piece... and Ive heard it about 5 times now....
its the pattern thats all... I used to be in clothes sales and its a unique pattern
