That's one redeeming value of this movie is that it doesn't really lend itself to a sequel...and it touches on the origins so they don't need to do a prequel. Hollywood should make more stand alone films. However I am waiting for the sequel to the Passion of the Christ...c-mon Mel, you're just about crazy enough to do it!
Let me be the first to say there would be no surprises if they made a remake, since the film got a couple of mixed reviews. With that said, have watched it twice and have enjoyed watching it. It would break my heart if they messed with "Watchmen" in any shape or form. This film had the perfect cast that did a great job, and nothing will change it. Can't see anybody else but those actors playing iconic characters as well as they have. A well-watched film :)
Oh gosh, "I refuse to do it unless it's a musical", LOL.
What's great is that Jackie can really do anything, he's been in Comedy, Action, Drama, and now Horror for Freddy! I would be more than happy to see him in a musical! He did amazing as Rorschach and he deserves some award for it. (He got nominated for Best Superhero in Scream Awards!)
Rorschach singing "And I'll whisper nwoouooouooo-yeaaah" would be an event in history that no one should miss. XD
It's disturbing to me to see how many people think it would be a good idea to make Watchmen TV shows or prequels. Such would be a disaster. Have you read the graphic novel? It's a complete microcosm that explains itself very, very, well. The book has stood alone for almost twenty-five years now as a masterpiece. It needs no additions.
@AlisonRobin13 I agree, while I can see them making a TV version of the Watchmen just so they can focus on more details, I still don't think the TV medium is ready for something as dark as Watchmen unless HBO is doing it. But yeah, no prequels and no sequels, Watchmen is complete, it's perfect the way it is, and unless the writers of Watchmen decides to bring in another story, I don't think anyone should clamber for sequels that have nothing to do with the Watchmen.
@geegeefaggot me neither; they're both terrific actors, they both stole the show in their respective movies and they were both the reason behind the films' success. but i think they're the best in their own way
Jackie is fucking hilarious. "I refuse to do it unless it's a musical" That guy was fantastic as Rorschach. Strange though, he looks nothing like Rorschach in the film. Who do you guys think did a better job at acting? Jackie Earle Haley as Rorschach, or Heath Ledger as Joker.
Hmm. Tha's a really good question. Instincualy, I would say Heath, for the mere fact that he died (sort of) due to the part; but Jack is so different from his charac; but so is Heath, but if I crossed out the fact that he died, that would make this a tie, espesialy sinse I don't know much about Jack's carreer; but Heath always gets so into his charac, while Jack simply did a phenom job; while all i'm doing is giving advantage point-outs, and not coming up with an answer; so I think ... Jack.
u know it would be cool to see an amimated series made about watchmen before they were outlawed like a show that would cover from 1964 and then all the way to the time that the government banned superheroes and it play on like g4 or adult swim but dont make it like a kids show make it hardcore with blood sex and murder involved
Well that's what they said about Friday the 13th and look what happend to that. I don't put it past the greedy assholes of Hollywood to due some sort of under minded shit just so that they can make a second or third film. I hope they don't and leave Watchmen alone.
That wouldnt work unless it was a tv mini series, and then Idont think they'd have invested that much money into a tv series. most these days look low budget.
Moore will never make a sequel even if he originally wanted to just to make a point. I dont agree with Moore's stance on not wanting to bring his work to the screen. But I respect it. Especially considering he put his money where his mouth was so to speak. He gave all the money he would have made from the movie to Dave Gibbons.
You kind of contradicted yourself. You just admit he's not behind any of these projects, then state "filmed in his name", given that Snyder tried to level on the line with Moore and was still turned down, he did not use Alan Moore's name in the film anyways.
Sarcasm etc implied, Alan Moore asked for his name to be removed and Snyder tried to cite him/give credit for where its due. Plagiarized would imply Snyder had created Watchmen with the intent to take full credit for the film and the creation of Watchmen, which he did neither. Proof of this is Gibbons approval of the film and believes Moore missed out.
And just in case you have forgotten, a "comic" is not a book. It takes more effort than just the author.
Oh, for heaven's sake, stop nitpicking. It's nice that you've got all sorts of details about this project stored up, but you can share them without involving me.
Than why post your opinion online? You are not stating or even using facts, like myself, but you are just stating your opinion. You left a comment, someone responded to it. Ever heard something about keeping your thoughts to yourself if you didn't want someone to comment back?
It's not my job to fulfill you intellectual boredom. You've made some points but your insistence that YOU be recognized for that is off putting. You lose ground when you openly praise yourself: "You are not stating or even using facts, LIKE MYSELF, but you are just stating your opinion."
We should all be somewhat bothered that large studios are using individual's work without those individual's approval. Plagiarism involves stealing an author's work and then failing to credit him with it. If Moore doesn't want his creation reinterpreted on the big screen, he deserves a little sympathy if someone does just that.
Except you're a bit redundant here. Moore cannot claim plagiarism and neither can you. Moore fanboys are so covered in their hedonistic worship of him they can't be bothered to know that he HAS no legal ownership of the comic. When you created a comic book in the 80s, you often signed contracts giving full rights and merchandising power to your publisher (in Moore's case) DC..then, after the comic (And this IS a comic by the way, not a book, my dear intellectual) ceased production.....
Ho-ho. Than thinks for admitting your entire argument has been built on a pile of excrement! You cry plagiarism when you admit he has no legal rights to the film or "Watchmen"? The movie cites Dave Gibbons and DC, the co-creator of Watchmen and its legal owner of Watchmen. If you're done negative clicking like a child, sit back and accept Moore just wanted no part of the movie because he has been screwed over infinitely, stop crying "wolf", or rather, "plagiarism". He chose not to be credited.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
They shouldn't have made the movie without his consent. He chose not to be credited and they chose to plagiarize. They're in the legal right, he is in the moral right.
And morality is ever shifting. He had no problem with signing up for movie contracts (with Gibbons) in the 80s. Moore's bad luck with not realizing the selling point of his serials being the ever-in-print graphic novel was an unfortunate overlook on his part. I agree that Moore himself has a right to be pissed not at the making of the movie (exactly my point, actually) but why he hasn't had such rights to begin with.
To follow this, due in part to the compilation created by the graphic novel, the grand "PRACTICAL JOKE" on Alan Moore, he has never seen profit or legal ownership of Watchmen. This is part of the reason he did not sign on for the movie, DC has owned Watchmen since 1985, not Gibbons or Moore.
Oh right, Gibbons. The guy who helped illustrate the whole c-o-m-i-c. Please stop treating it like the graphic novel you bought that has kept Moore from making any profit on "his" Watchmen.
I never claimed Gibbons didn't have rights over his material. Don't put words in my mouth.
If I were you, I wouldn't claim to know why Moore didn't sign on for the movie, either. Nobody can make those claims except Moore and we're not required to believe even him.
There's no contradiction. He's not behind the projects. He doesn't give them the thumbs up. He's not happy with the productions. They are implicitly filmed in his name though. Who doesn't associate V for Vendetta and The Watchmen with Alan Moore?
That's one redeeming value of this movie is that it doesn't really lend itself to a sequel...and it touches on the origins so they don't need to do a prequel.
