  • I think the bunker in Debert Nova Scotia did the same thing used by a high tech company. And since it's DND property who cares what the mayor thinks the city doesn't own it. If the DND turns it over to the city then the city can look into options.

  • Why not just fit the 21st Century technology in the old bunker? Why a new building? If there where to eventually have a threat the new building would get whipped and we be trying to boot up the old machine, just like in the movies .... Great Canadian tax dollars....

  • What a joke, the base should be in the bunker not above it. What is wrong with our country?

  • so that was 3 years ago, TODAY where is it now?

  • 0:01

  • I think they could shoot some really cool Cold War era movies down there. No need to build a set.

  • Cool.

  • I like how they didn't mention the fact that in the early eighties it was just remodeled. Why didn't they just do that again? It would have saved them the cost of the new facility AND the $2,000,000 a year upkeep fee.

  • I think that it should they should grant the military money to renovate this bunker. With the tensions of countries such as Iran and North Korea, we still have a threat of nuclear attack. Sure maybe not cold war odds, but still, play it safe. At least if there was a nuclear attack, we would be prepared instead of scrambling on our feet.

  • were going to need those bunkers again...

    research population reduction economic collapse.

  • The new facility is ABOVE ground? What, do they think EMP is part of the history books? No metal structure can protect against EMP, that's why the underground facility was UNDERGROUND.

Don't know what they're thinking, but...

  • @pshinspections: Right now, times are less hostile than during the Cold War so there is no use in building it underground.

  • They would be foolish to let it rot,its bought and paid for, update some of the equipment, for when the next asteroid hits they will be thanking their sweet patotie.

  • Cheyanne Mtn. is the real norad

  • @Darkotaku87

I live in Colorado. Primary operations that were in Cheyenne mountain are no longer. They have moved to the outside facilities, but the inside of the mountain is still in use.

Enter: "NORAD moves" as a search into Google.

  • Well, the nuclear operations are at STRATCOM at Offut AFB, but right now the military is thinking about moving STRATCOM headquarters down to Barksdale AFB in Lousiana

  • Thanks for posting this,I lived on the base from 78-83 as my dad was with 414 SQN and he served 32yrs in the CAF and myself 5yrs in the Infantry with 1 RCR. I remember the air raid siren going off around 3am one day when I was only in grade 9 and swore I was going to die a virgin ;)

A lot of the base is torn down (buildings) and also the Bomark missle is not in North Bay anymore-I belive the Americans took it back.

  • I wonder how many times we almost went ot nuclear holocast. We know of a few but I bet its a high number

  • LAMO...a CASINO?? That figures. That's our military for you. Maybe they should run the casino so they can buy new equipment.

  • yeah i live in north bay, i dont understand why they built it above ground. this is canadas MAIN are defence system i dont understand why they would make it so obvious its there, i would of turned that underground facility into that new building. the whole city of north bay can fit in there! its completely safe! why wouldnt you put norad down there!

  • Well, Canada isnt really a major nuclear target from canada other then a few Radar stations up north on the DEW line that are still in operation and mybe some cities since it is a NATO nation.

  • I want to rent it for the symbolic amount of one euro a day and able to do whatever I please with it.

  • Get out of my wallet

  • Nice video, thanks

  • this is NOTHING...google "underground bases"

  • I thought they still used NORAD in Colorado

  • @KJT922010T NORAD is everywhere lol

  • well guys if you don't want to support our troops you are more than welcome to stand in front of them in Afghanistan.

I drove bus in that tunnel for over a year. what a thrill 1-5 inches clearance off the mirrors

  • @downey935 nice try buddy

  • And this shit has been done with all our tax money??? to protect our stupied goverment??

And we all have to get fucked up and been like a soldier to protect their lives????

Stupied you are if you get in to a military not porud at all

  • the russians will melt the fucker.......

  • What a joke these military planners are

The logical choice would have been to replace the aging equipment in the BUNKER rather than build a new building and house in it all the high tech shit that we need to keep track of our airspace, while at the same time maintaining a now useless underground bunker

PUT THE NEW SHIT IN THE BUNKER JACKASSES!

  • Hell yeah! How in the world could these jackasses been so backwards thinking as to put this shit ABOVE GROUND!!!!????

  • It does not make sense to me. Someone had their hand in someones pocket, thats all i can see. I bet who ever was in charge of this project, had some big interests in a large construction company. Otherwise, what kind of drugs were these idiots smoking?!?

  • where were they on 9/11 and why is it not investigated

  • it has been investigated! The bush administration said Norads job was to look at outward threats, however this contradicts norads long standing mission to not only look outwards but to "look inwards, to maintain aire Sovereignty"

  • wow look at all that stuff!

  • Just one more thing that lets me know our current times suck. I would die for the USA in these times, now, not so much. This is NOT our country any more.

  • NORAD DSP satellites track UFOs all the time entering and leaving our atmosphere and going into deep space. That's how the military keeps track of which objects are "ours" and which are "theirs". Around 5 per day in fact.

  • Too bad for them, but Soviets solved problem to blow up such hardened bases since early 1980s. 25MT nuclear blast at few hundred yards can vaporize anything, any base. Solution: SS-18 "Satan" missile, "mod 2" modification.

  • it can vapourise a mountain?i dont theenk so

  • Ok not vapourise, but it's could transform mountain into glass

Look at Tsar bomb (50MT bomb test) video and comments

  • My grandfather worked for NORAD there :D

  • I will buy it and make it a crazy, bomb-proof strip club.

  • why did they made a casino in this bunker?...make it a hospital

  • They haven't yet, that was just one of the plans.

Currently they're working on a huge new hospital which is almost done, so it probably won't become a hospital.

They should at least keep it preserved for historic values imo.

  • A BRAIN????? Perhaps before you blab your obviously uneducated mouth off, do some research. Nuclear bombs can easily penetrate the tunnel as much as any above ground complex. Only thing worse than an idiot is one that lives in his moms basement.....

  • I'd still rather take my chances underground...

  • Two million dollars a year to maintain the place and the retards go and spend a shitload of money to build a whole new above ground facility that isn't even bomb proof (or EMP and CBRN proof). Why didn't they just renovate like they did back in the 1980's? Am I missing something here?

  • yes Jay Tv

  • NORAD in Canada is a joke... protecting Canadian people thats bull... Russian space debris fell into Labrador with out NORAD knowing any thing about it before it was to late...... lucky no one was killed or hurt.... But as for being protected well NORAD showed they wont do the job until it is to late only then they might....

  • Hold onto it! Even though I think the new equipment should have been put in the bunker!

  • THey should just of replaced all that old equipment in the bunker with the state of the art ones so they didn't have to build a new building

  • make it a porn shop! nothing wrong with perv's walking around the new norad. keep the little boys and girls away from the fence!

  • hope those intel quad core desktops are what they are worth in case of an attack........

  • intel is shit..shouldv went AMD

  • These guys know what they are talking aboooot

  • We need to turn this into the biggest maple syrup storage in eastern Canada.

  • Hold on too it!,

    Never know what can happen

  • here's a thought enlarge the entrance tunnel to allow a five ton mil-spec truck through and turn it into a strategic logistical material depot with enough equipment and arms to fully equip or resupply a entire infantry regiment.

  • Awesome place to be in a zombie outbreak...

  • hell yeah -- I was thinking the same thing.

  • turn it into a museum!

  • Wasn't a bad place to work. but costly to operate and it would cost a hell of a lot more to get all the asbestos out and move in the newer computer systems. the Above ground complex there cost a lot less than those kind of overhauls.

  • I'd like to buy the facility as my vacation home ...

  • Great place to throw a party, or to film a movie.

I'd buy that place, and then take over the world.

  • LOL a $100 billion party place

  • Interesting. I also thought, that NORAD is a single facility in the US. You never stop learning.

  • Wow. Very nice video.

  • they should keep it operational.....

  • they should sell all that shit and move back in..sell the buildin up top..lol i know where im goin when the zionists plan backfires..

  • Normal government to spend billions making something, and then just abandon it.

  • I thought norad was in a mountain somewhere and still active?... a bit confused!

  • The NORAD facility you are thinking of is at Cheyenne Mountain, Colorado. It was portrayed in the movie "War Games".

  • Thanks Kenny, thats exactly where I was thinking of..

  • That's a really good broadcast, very interesting to watch I think.

  • all you pukes that don't know anything about this should stop flapping your gums. Enough said.

  • Great video very informative.

  • sad thing is im right now only about a km and a half away from cfb northbay's main enterance and in this video you dont see much of the base you only see the the sage aka the hole or the "underground bunker" and the new above ground one. they have taken most of the stuff out of the sage and still to this day dont know what to do with it. i say it should have stayed there and just put in easier access.

  • There are now four interesting articles on NORAD at DNotice (org). They are "The NORAD Papers", "The NORAD Papers II", "The NORAD Papers III" and The NORAD Papers IV. The last article (for the first time!) explains the mechanics of how NORAD radar operators monitored and identified aircraft flying over American airspace.

  • i can't believe they built the new facility right in top of the old one.

  • Why don't still used the nuclear bunker...it is more secure against nuclear strike and for sure arial bombing from russian aircraft who can easily destroy the New Norad center...

  • They better update it and fix everything. If the machines do ever take over, i.e. Skynet, they better have a reason to take NORAD rather than some other lame base seen so frequently in films and games, etc.

I also want an apple II computer to take over and play war games with some punk kid in Washington, only to loose to tic-tac-toe, that would be AWESOME!

  • How many missile centers do we have and where are they?

  • cant wait till they finally launch

  • i found what appears to be a silo southeast of my place

  • Been there, done that, got the t-shirt. I worked in the power plant in the early 90's at the "hole". It would be cool if they turned it into a cold war museum.

  • Did you work underground?

  • Yup. Six years. Lots of fun.

  • NORAD still needs all submarines clocks to be syncronized to Norad atomic clock..Atomic submarine's atomic clock. Can be powered and energized by a solar clock but doesn't use sun power but only by laser light which is absorbed in clock's solar panel cells or photo voltaic cells which absorb laser light, converts it to electrical power then sends it to it's atomic submarine clock. The reason to use this. Not smart to have any electrical wires they could cause more radiation.

  • Been there...served there (my favourite CFB)...some years back I visited there with family and friends (under tight security of course)...great group of people there...sorry to see it "mothballed" rather than updated.

  • They should have updated it-- much more secure down there, especially with Muslims loose in the world.

  • Prior to 9/11, there was talk of turning it into a prison, but to keep prisoners held underground 24hour/day was considered inhumane. It was very secure and functional. It just needed some updated equipment. You can never be too safe...2 NORADs are better than one (North Bay & Colorado that is)

  • Shut your pie hole....you dirty commie.

  • not to mention the christians, jews, hindus, and so forth, right?

  • Whay don't they move back IN to the bunker!!!! What if there's a nuclear war? NORAD will be vaporized and our North will be defenseless.

  • atleast they still got the mountain

  • I used to work there!

  • Ive been inside that bunker it was very impressive me and my family were the only ones allowed in untill sadley the bunker became deserted I wont tell you any thing about it though after all it was a nuclear shelter what I can tell you is that on one of the circut boards I saw over 100 blips on it thankfully these wern`t Russion bombers they were civilan airliners

  • that is pretty interesting..

  • interesting stuff

  • Wow, that would be really awesome if they convert it into a data centre.

  • cool
