After watching this video I posted it to my online community in London, ON. A day later there's 13 of my neighbours (and counting!) signed up and using the site. Exciting! I love the search-ability and user friendliness of the site. Such a great idea!
It is a great idea!! I have heard of small communities doing a similar thing - one such community I lived in had a neighborhood truck...just had to put gas in it.. I live in Santa Cruz California. and they have done this on a small scale. Those that are holding fear around this could call a neighborhood gathering to introduce the idea and get a feel for who is around you.
I would be surprised if anyone would do this near where I live. No one wants to loan out anything and they certainly wouldn't help someone for free.
Also, people are not friendly anywhere I have lived. It is actually easier not to know my neighbors because they are rude and hateful. Maybe this would work in a bigger city, but even then, people would have to be afraid of a serial killer or a stalker.
This kind of project only works in a friendly society. According to my experience people in west London are friendly, thats why it works. It may not work in other part of Europe.
@falcon010216 How on earth do you think people get to be kind and friendly? We humans can learn to cooperate and coexist, despite the prevailing modernist gestalt that would have us believe otherwise.

Great idea! I'm from Ukraine - I registered but there is no one nearby - this concept needs to go global :)
