I love Argentine tango, but I had to stop dancing it due to a level of snobbery that I couldn't take. That snobbery seems to be evident here in these comments.
I have been teaching tango since 2000. The American Tango is a wonderful dance. However when you have it compared to the Argentine, it pales in comparison. The Argentine is only behind the Bolero in its beauty. In my humble opinion.
What is wrong with you people ?? What about Ballroom dancing International style tango and American smooth?? Do some research or start watching Ballroom dancing and then throw stupid comments .Great job you guys !!!!!!!!!
There are more than one style of every dance. If you all would do some research... There is American style and International style... Argentine Tango is one in its own.
This is a very good demonstration of basic American Tango. or "smooth". There are three different forms of Tango. 1. Argentine 2. International Standard 3. American Smooth Be careful not to compare them to each other. International is competitive and travels a lot. In American is expressive (or can be) as you are allowed steps that open and close your dance hold and then in the Argentine. How you dance the Argentine with someone should tell others what your relationship with that person is.
Really! I'm amazed that any dance can be so enlightening. Could, for example, the manner in which I dance Argentine Tango with them indicate the nature and extent of my relationship with my bank manager, chiropodist, funeral director, etc.?
American Tango was introduced in the US in the 1940's as a Tango for mass consumption. That being said, American Tango, when done correctly, can be passionate, dramatic, compelling. As a teacher, I find it a much more "user friendly" dance to teach to newbies than Arg Tango. Plus, many newbie dancers are not comfortable w/ extremely close hold of Arg Tango. Both styles are legitimate Tango, it's a matter of taste and preference. This vid clip is an excellent demo of basic Amer Tango. Good job.
I can find no reference to "American Tango" in any of the authoritative dance textbooks. Is this yet another of those appalling "social" dance creations that the Americans come up with and are ignored by the rest of the world?
certainly this is american tango, that is a bad copy of the Argentine tango, given the difficulty of Argentine tango in the USA and Europe were able to make change easier this dance

@Falgroate one of my acquaintences had the best advice for uptight people, he says it with this casual drawl.
"Chill out, relax.". Norberto "El Pulpo" Esbrez.

Ballroom dancing is not like the present jumping up and down in your driveway like children do. Dancing is more than that.
