  • Simply the best!

  • 1:38 are planes, right?

  • Correct, circling over Gatwick Airport

  • @ollielarkin the planes look very cool!

  • @92benno92 No, I'm pretty sure those are alien spacecrafts.

  • Still one of my favorite videos on all of youtube. Keep up the good work, please!

  • VERY GOOD....

  • that looks amazing! nice work dude

  • i saw this a couple of years back, and i must say, it's still my favorite time lapse video. way to go ollie!!!

  • Great work dude, only wish it would've been maybe twice the length. Nevertheless 5/5

  • what motion control did you use, love your work

going to try this myself on a 50D, thoughts on learning would nice thanks

  • I used a home built mo-co rig as I could not afford a proper setup. The learning is trial and error, there are plenty of helpful websites out there now :)

  • NICE!!!

  • Seriously good shit. Respect!

  • love the grazing horses

  • great video 5*

whats the name of that tune it fits the vid perfectly

  • I love this(:

  • amazing. truly a masterpiece.

but, you spelled piece wrong at the end. i before e except after unless the word is weird. :P

  • Truly a masterpiece. And the music from mylo fits in very well. How can hear more mylo music?

  • The music goes so well with this video.

Very relaxing! Thanks for the upload

  • that was fantastic! nice job thank you very much!

i have started doing things like this too, i'm very curios what equipment you use to rotate the camera?

  • Sometimes in life you meet someone that can pause time... What if that person, was a camel *record scratches* Paramount Pictures presents... Ben and the Gang. In theaters this Fall.

  • thanks for the tips..great work...ever wonder if the one of the last night pans, ever captured a ufo. Looks to me that you should look over those individual frames/pics....

  • good pick with the mylo song. well done

  • this is beautiful

  • ah ehere is where my current camera fails.

    no built in intervalometer.

    but getting the 20d soon!!

  • what camera? shutter speed length? and shot duration? every 3-5 mins?

  • What camera?

Its just a tool, any camera with manual settings and a means for a remote trigger or a built in intervalometer will do.

    shutter speed length?

Every shot is different, there is no set shutter speed.

    Shot duration?

Again all are differnt, between 2-6 hours

    every 3-5 mins?

10-45 seconds, depends on the speed of your subject.

  • terrific job, Ollie!

though how do you get the camera to rotate 360 degrees? and how do u program ur shots in accordance to this rotation?

    great piece Ollie,

    Thank you!

  • This is very peaceful. Music is perfect for it. What is the name of the music?

  • mylo - emotion 98.6

  • Thanks

  • best video ever.

i wish i could do something like this

  • Wow this was really good! But you spelled "piece" wrong. Otherwise, awesome!

  • that was amazing! that must have taken you a very long time! :D

  • Simply amazing.

  • witch program did you use??

  • This is beautiful. How is the time lapse done? Thanks

  • Ah peaceful and bliss all rolled into one great video

  • This is amazing. Loved the airplanes circling the airport at the end. Thanks for posting this.

  • I could watch this over and over. Time lapse and mylo rock!

    Patrick

  • just feel the music! beautiful!

  • just feel the music! so beautiful!

  • Excellent! :D

  • haha, "lapses" means "your child" in finnish. Actually its like slang.

  • fantastic mate. You certainly have a talent. spot on.

  • That is wonderful! Fascinating to watch. :)

  • Beautiful . Had a look at your website and I am really impressed! Well done. Gave me some inspiration thanks :)

  • Olliedarkin, How can you shoot continuously because I hear the canon 20D can only shoot up to 25 shots continuously.

    Thanks,

    Perry

  • the 20d will only max out the burst when you're shooting in burst mode with multiple frames per second. If you're shooting time lapse then it's more likely you're only shooting 1 frame every few seconds - so the camera's cache has plenty of time to clear up before the next shot.

by the by: this video is awesome. I just shot my first time lapse not too long ago and I was really inspired by this.

  • What exactly are the custom controllers used ?

  • Fanstatic it really effects u and enchantes you that when life is at its darkest time it takes you from the dark and into the light and life is living for this

  • ?????? wierd?

  • The giant wheel looks great, that´s a very cool ideia!

  • great work!!!! awesome!

  • in the last clip, are those shooting stars? how r they moving like that? or planes n stuff?

  • I have to say this is one of the best time lapse collections I have seen on youtube. Well done! I would love to see a higher quality version - youtube compression is just too much for something as classy as this. I like the details like the cows in the field and the swarm of plane lights near the airport. Excellent panning HW too. Thanks!

  • Great speed feeling! True master piece.

    and really fantastic world. Thanks.

  • Super!!!

  • BEST of THE BEST! Really cool video, great work!

  • you spelled piece wrong. but the video in absolutely incredible nonetheless

  • sweet

  • Hi ollielarkin

have you used a Nizo with AutomB? It allows similar timelapse effects using Super 8

    Si

  • I watch this almost every morning when I wake up. Seriously.

  • I know what you mean, I keep being drawn back to it as well. It has such an enchanted feel , I'm totally bewitched by it - it kind of reminds you to take a step back from the chaos now and then :-)

  • Grab the HD version from my website, will make it even better :D

  • Love this video. The music matches up so well with theme. Thx

  • Who ever thought Plymouth could look so beautiful ?......this video is awesome and i always come back on to view it all the time

how are ya ollie?....hope all is cool.....you should come down to Australia and do some time lapse with the tides / beaches & surf....would be amazing

    keep the vids coming

    M

  • very cool. but what are those lights flying around at 1: 30?

  • I read your comments on your web blog about lapses in light. Despite the the jumps and other glitches I still think its wonderful to watch. Beats a lot of TV thats for sure. Can you tell how your automated pan and tilt head was made too?

    Carl

  • this is somthing to show a new born!!! absolutely beauty... the music is perfect!

  • wow.

  • This is the most amazing time lapses video ever.

  • absolutely amazing

    many thanks

  • this video is so amazing, i love the part with the ferris wheel and the traffic. its so artistic and cool

  • This is soo beautiful! Love the music too :)

  • Wow! I got quite emotional watching this! Really ethereal. The music was spot on and the video really made me think about how short a time we are here for. Simply stunning.

  • Simply awesome. Your video inspired my students to create their own artistic time-lapse video. Search on Youtube for "A Day at Irving High". Just thought I'd let you know. :-)

  • this is beautiful.

  • Very good video, inspiring..

  • HOW FAST DID YOU COMPRESS YOUR FOOTAGE TO GET TO THE SPEED OF LIGHT LOOK WITH THE CARS... AND HOW WERE YOU ABLE TO PAN SO SLOW WHILE SHOOTING IN ACTUAL TIME.. YOU HAD TO HAVE A SERIOUS FLUID HEAD ON YOUR TRIPOD TO MOVE SLOOOOOOOOOOW AND STEEEEEEEEAAAAAAADY!!! superb!

  • Mylo, Emotion 98.6

  • o_O this is strange in a relaxing way

    great film

    what's the music btw?

    thnx

  • Hermoso....Great edditing

  • Simply amazing.

  • Amazing...

  • Wow.

  • one of the most beautiful videos I have seen in a long time! what song sounds on this video?

  • absolutly beautiful.

one question, how do you turn the camera around between every shot, do you have a motorized tripod or do you put marks on the pole to know how much to turn it between each shot?

  • i got this on mute while listening to dj tiesto beutiful things it's somewhat of therapy

  • omg i have never seen anything soooo terific how did u do that 360 lapse i wish i was as good as u :D

  • how did you make a 360 degree time lapse ?

  • OUTSTANDING BEST VIDEO IF PROB EVER SEEN, im attempting one but my camera takes 20 mins, = 2GB, which means my vid would turn out around 40 GB until i made it smaller!

    gutted

  • a beautiful piece of time-lapse experimentation. well done!

  • Very nice video. I too like the 360 degree time lapse pan.

  • Great video I like the way the camera moves in time with the tick of the clock in the song. where can I find more of you work?

  • why dont u open a screen saver company with this type of format i will download it and purchase it good taste and pretty cool.

  • Very well done, is that the region around Manchester? anyways, great composition and editing, very fluid, which is tricky to do with Time lapse.

  • it mostly around Plymouth :) although i hear Manchester currently has a big wheel.

thank you very much for your kind words :)

  • great video!

  • the last timelapse is cool, because you see the stars being flung around the moon.

  • Their not stars..their planes landing/taking off.

  • it is so awesome . and i like it because the cam goes around. and the places u filmed. in what town is it?

    *> GREAT VID !!! <*

  • We totally LOVE this timelapse!!! It's so well done and beautiful!

  • Hey, amazing Time Lapse

I was wondering the specs? Shutter speed, ISO, fps?

    Thanks a bunch

    ROB

  • I'm sure it's different for every sequence! I personally use 'the ultimate exposure calculator' and the fps is highly dependent upon the speed of pan...

  • 0:18-0:34, 1:02-1:10, 1:18-1:40, Absolutely Amazing! Excellent job! I loved the ferris wheel and the cars and the fireflies. that was so cool! Favored!

  • What flies and has lights? Highly paid, trained fireflies. They were loaned out by NASA.

    I've seen.

Are you working on anything else?

    Would love to see it.

  • Ollie,

What flies and has lights? Airplanes. You have some of the best time lapse I've seen. Are you working on anything else ? Would love to see it.

  • Great edit man, what's the song called?

    It's Emotion 98.6 by Mylo.

  • dude time lapses are the STUFF!

  • Amazing!!! It was godlike feeling wathcing it!

  • Exceptional camera work.

  • Stunning stuff, even more so as that stuff on Dartmoor is about a mile away from my house and is absolutely recognisable.

  • this is absolutely amazing...congraduations true talent...im an aspiring photographer

  • Just incredible. I've gone through all the posts here. But given that there is custom work involved, could you elaborate on how the mod's were done? Is there a commercial colution ou there that comes close to your custom pan and zoom/intervalometer combination?

    Thanks.

  • amazing, how do you do this?

  • wow!

  • It's awesome but you misspelled the word 'piece' as 'peice'.

  • i know piece is spelt wrong here, if i could change the youtube version i would, trust me.

Its spelt correctly on my site though :)

  • AWESOME!!NICE MUSIC^^

  • hope you like my response any comments on it would be nice thank you

  • speechless....

  • Beautiful...

  • how many pictures per minute? and what was your shutter speed?

  • please read my previous comment :(

  • How you did that? Which camera?

  • please guys have a read of the information provided on this page, the link to my website and the other comments before asking the same questions time and time again, i don't mind answering questions, but not when its the same stuff over and over again because people can't be arsed to use their eyes and read the informtion that is already infront on you.

Its made using a canon 20d, with a motorised pan and tilt head and some custom controllers/intervalometer.

  • This is great!!

  • well done! I noticed that you said on one of your earlier posts that you assemble the videos with quicktime pro, can you give me any advice on a pc program i could use to assemble videos. I have tried using windows movie maker however the time lapse im working on at the moment is about 3000 pictures; far to many to manually drag and drop together. any help would be appreciated.
