  • Nice Vid thanks for posting ,I hope that ROC post is still in good condition,My old post (Bedford 50 brent pelham) is looking shabbby after some vandals trashed it

    :(

  • Good to see an intact post and not covered in graffiti and torched (or flooded!). Is this post in actual preservation, or is it just one of the lucky ones?

  • @Hanglands it's one of the lucky ones! Not been up there for a while though so no idea what state it's in now.

  • @foz101 Thats a pity, it would be a great shame to see that post deteriorate. I wish I had the resources to buy the one on ebay at the moment... maybe youve seen it. Its in the Peak District, and its a buy-it-now item at £18k.

There are more preserved posts than I though, just checked the rocassoc website for the museum page. My dad was on the Sawtry post in Hunts.

  • This one in really good condition probably always sealed thus proof against vandals. Shame they were not all (or welded shut) One has to make the observation though it was purely Politicians created the insanity of the Cold War (East and West) - yet - had it happened they would all be very comfortable and snug in their RSGs - whilst many ordinary folks outside would be ... toast ...

  • someones been busy with the hammerite!

    good film,thanks

  • theres a r.o.c post near where i live it doesn't look anything like the bottoms flooded with water and its a mess but what i could make out its quite intacted, its in luton lincs.

  • Thanks for all your comments, especially former observers!

  • Incredible to see a ROC Post still in this condition. I've been in several, filmed one which is not far from where i live. In comparison to this post, the one i filmed had been stripped and destroyed which is a great shame. From the looks of that log book, that post was last manned in 1992. I'm absolutely fascinated with how well preserved this post is. Thanks for sharing!

  • Thanks for the tour. Nice dry post there. I was at 16 Grp Control Shrewsbury but enjoyed visiting the posts when I did mobile monitoring. Good hardy bunch of folk. Miss it greatly, as still in at 1991 stand down. No veterans badge for us alas. Regards to all visiting Observers.

  • I was in the luxury of group control 25 group, i remember being on post display plotting keeping the poor cold folk down they posts entertained in between reports, happy days, miss it now

  • interesting.

  • nice film mate ,looks like that post was better equiped than mine(bedford 50 post brent pelham)when ours was stood down the MOD or home office stripped virtaully everything out of it the tight gits they even tool the chemical lavvy!!!!

  • What good condition thats in mate, great job.

  • nice one

  • Is it down John`s hill or St.Ninians?I didn`t even know it existed.

  • It's down St Ninians on the left side of the road. If you're looking for it you can't miss it.

  • thank You

  • guess you live in alyth aswell aye? you can only see the top of it because its locked now.

  • No, I'm just a Fifer with an interest in these things

  • also at 3:35 the timer thing on the wall was ticking when me and my friends were down and it was weird i was pretty scared :S

  • i have been down and my grandad has this on his property when people were down it i was only 20 meters away :O i didnt even know! i thought it was cool because i had been down well before this video was even taken :P.

  • Great Vid. Very atmospheric. Don't know why but there was always loads of soap and Glitto issued to ROC Posts. Shame there wasn't any water for washing !

  • there was water for washing but it was in a plastic jerry can and was often frozen solid!!

  • Nice vid! looks very intact down there.Did you see any glitto powder in the blue tin?

  • You would not think it so interesting old son if you had spent 24 hours freezing your sphericals off on Exercise one weekend in October like I did for Twenty Years or so!On the Door of the loo it said on ours-- WHEN YOU SEE THE FIRST FLASH---TUCK YOUR HEAD BETWEEN YOUR LEGS---AND KISS YOUR BOTTOM GOOD BYE!! Only it did not say bottom !Ex Stalwart.

  • what were your specific duties down in the post in and out of Exercise time?

  • During the Cold War.Detecting and Evaluating 'Nuclear Explosions' during a mock air attack and reporting subsequent radioactive fallout for civil defence purposes etc.Preparing for the real thing which thankfully did not happen.

  • Nice vid was down there myself last week (3-11-07).

  • Great video, not many around inside a ROC post!
