One of my college drummer friends first professional orchestral gig involved getting paid union scale to attend three rehearsals just to play one cymbal crash in a Bruckner symphony.
The guy was drawn out- then later scanned in and cleaned up in Flash. We worked out the background pieces in Photoshop and just layered them out on the z-axis in After Effects so that we could move a camera around. Everything was then finally composited in AFX. Fun fun fun!
