That is Levon Helm. That's where The Band came into existance, as Ronnie Hawkins' Band. He had guys from the south in his band. They got homesick for the south, and left one by one. The Band took their places, one by one.
How lucky for us! The Band is one of the GREATEST.
Is that Fred Carter on the Tele guitar on the left side at 0:05? Levon was a twirling stick mutha back in the day. Love to see this whole bandstand clip.
I think that is Fred Carter. It looks like him, & there was a period around the time of the Mr. Dynamo album where both Fred and Jimmy Ray Paulman played guitar & there was no keyboard player. the only other two guitar Hawks lineup would have been very briefly around maybe 1960, with Fred and a very young Robbie & Stan Szelest would likely have been on keys.
@donuntboy25 I'm pretty sure it is, as Levon was with him in the '50s. Hard to believe but Levon is still touring these days promoting his 'Dirt Farmer' album.
Respond to this video... yea in his book "this wheel's on fire" Levon refers to crowds going crazy when Ronnie did the "camel walk". love Levon's trade mark drum stick twirls.
If anyone is interested in learning more about this period in music they should read the book This Wheel's on Fire by Levon Helm. The dance was actually called the camelwalk and came out of late night honky tonk and blues show performers right at the beggining of rock and roll's history and was probably perrformed by a number of different artists at various times.
Let's face it. The Moon Walk looks like something from black culture. Ronnie probably saw some unknown black kid down south do it, so he incorporated it into his act. Then MJ saw it and really refined it.
who was that idiot who said jacko was 'inspired by black street dancers'?..well if jacko copied them then perhaps it was THEM who copied Ronnie Hawkins..the original and best!...thanks for posting this revelation for the ignorant who know no better.
This move was known as the "Camel Walk" and you were supposed to go forward, not backward. I saw Ronnie Hawkins perform this on the nighttime Dick Clark show in 1959. There's a little clip of that on youtube. Believe me, I never forgot it. Later I saw a black couple doing it at a dance and they told me it was the "Camel Walk." They went forward, not backward. MJ did not "invent" it.
You ignorant bastards should bow down to the legend that is The Hawk! You're defending that pedophile Jacko because he just died. This was called the "camel walk." Clearly it must've been an influence on MJ. You think he invented those dance moves? No. People were slidin', steppin' and spinnin' at church or out dancin' well before 'Billie Jean' was out. About 40 years before.
@YoHuckleberry Don't you ever talk like that about Michael Jackson! FYI, he never claimed to have "invented" the moonwalk, he said many times that he was inspired by African American street dancers.
not to be mean but if u havnt noticed he aint movin backwards or keepin his feet on the ground he is not doing the moonwalk unless someone finds proof of someone THAT ACTUALLY DOES IT HOW MJ DOES STOP POSTING THESE VIDEOS R.I.P M.J.
Look at the Levon flash so much feel, LEVON an all around class act and a beauty.

That's like an airwalk, not the Backslide (Moonwalk) The Moonwalk is supposed to look like your being pulled backwards as your walking forward.

I think bebop is correct. I'm reading Levon Helm's "This Wheel's on Fire", and this has to be Ronnie's "Camel Walk".
