Anybody, know where I can get a copy of his(Benny Martin) "True Christmas" song ? Eddie Stubbs, of WSM650am, plays it at Christmas time, and says it's "out of print". I've searched the internet, high & low.
True story. Dolly Parton settled out of court with this guy. Seems he sued her since the verse melody of this song is quite similar to that of '9 to 5'.
Wonderful piece! The only odd bit is that he's lip-synching the lyrics. Is he singing a prior recording of himself, or is it someone else's voice? Love that fiddling and the purple tie!
Hmm, I've haven't heard that in a long time. I'll have to listen again. Its hard to imagine being better than this! But if anyone could do it, its Benny!
Awesome! Where did you find this? This must have been even before he played with Monroe - he's so young and skinny. Check out one of my other favorites if you get the chance - "The Out Of Town Boys" videos.
Martin played with Monroe in 1948-49. If memory serves me correctly this video dates late 50s (56-58??) so it was well after that, and also after having played with Flatt & Scruggs (he quit in 1954).
This is freakin' amazing! Dang straight, there are 0 dislikes!

A genuine fiddle wizard who communicates the feelgood factor.
A great shame there isn't more videos of him in action.

Benny Martin is my great uncle!!! I just started getting into his music when my great grandma, Roberta Hall died. He is so amazing!

Benny was one of the greats. Used to have an 8 string fiddle he played. Thanks for posting this.

Does anyone have the lyrics to this song?

Benny Martin had to be the best fiddle player of his time. Just listen to all those double stops! Intonation is dead on!
In my opinion, this live cut is better than any album version of this song I've ever heard.

I think the version found in the 1953 Flatt & Scruggs bootleg is by far the greatest, but this is a close second!!

Great tune, but I am afraid the correct title of this piece is "Me and My Fiddle"
Benny was one of the best. In the words of Lester Flatt, " That biscuit eater sure can play that fiddle"
