  • where was this shot?

  • @pubertiad I shot this at a summer festival on the weekend of the first Earth Day in Pittsburgh, actually on the Northside. the procession began on the Mexican War Streets and proceeded to a vacant lot. After the performance they began a community garden. Amazing

  • I'm taking these two videos from you.

  • When I didn't have a place to go the Living Theatre Arts Directors brought me into the Living Theatre apartment for days and days to work on the Archives to work on the new Living Theatre Buidling

  • I don't want to disrespect this, or the recording of it, but I honestly dont' understand what these people thought any of this would accomplish. NOw, I would love to have experienced it, but that doesn't mean that it serves any purpose. What did these people think would be won besides personal fulfillment? I don't understand, but would like to.

  • @chichikov8 If you are really interested you should see the entire work, and you should read what has been published about "Turning the Earth" and Julian Beck and Judith Malina's work.

  • @chichikov8 also check out The Open Theatre "The Serpent" Videos here on youtube. My local experimental theatre group chose the Open Theatre, it's fulfilling and can indeed be done in a manner which the visuals and sounds create an amazing show. The Living Theatre was essentially a more bare less developed Open Theatre.

  • @chichikov8 Check out the Open Theatre's The Serpent videos here on youtube, it's great to see

  • I'm a former member of the Living Theatre if you have questions for your essay I'd be glad to be interviewed, and answer as best as I can.

  • Hippies lol

  • Deodorant and Toothpaste ... isle 1

  • Just wanted to say I've got an essay to hand in about the Living and I am just totally stunned by everything I'm discovering...

  • Meeting them and shooting this was one of the most fascinating thought-provoking life changing experiences of my life - I am glad to share this with a wider audience thanks to YouTube. Thanks for commenting!

  • So sad to see that nobody has commented with appreciation for this amazing clip, despite over 2000 views.

Julian and Judith at the peak of their talents here.

I'm sorely tempted to purchase the full DVD, after admiring the smaller individual clips for so long now.

But thanks for posting these thought-provoking masterpieces.

    Bravo!

  • From the Living Theatre's leaflet: Ritual Act 2: "Retching the Past - in which we take into our mouths pebbles from the dead earth, the dead world, the old life, the poison which we must spit out if we are to be free"
