The lyrics aren't random but meant to induce an emotional response. They both (John & Anthony write very metaphorically and Anthony, in fact, was an English major at my Alma Mater, UCLA. He's trying to show you how he's feeling by singing out "analogous illustrations" of aspects of his life. Try listening to a line and thinking about how that seemingly random line affects your mood. Then do that for the rest of the song and feel how his lines dictate the dynamics of the entire song. He's genius.

Interesting how this song has so few views as compared with their others from same album. This definetly isnt for everyone, and most of the chili peppers "casual listeners" would definetly skip this one, but for all the frusciante fans out there this is definetly one of the highlights of the album, especially the solo, one of the best he has written.
