the USG Ishimura(the ship the game takes place on) is attacked by those aliens you see, called Necromorphs. During the attack, a distrell call is sent out to the Concordance Extraction Company. Isaac Clarke, our homeboy, is sent out with two other guys, under the impression that the Ishimura is only in need of mechanical repair. When they get their, they find the crew utterly pwned and Isaac gets seperated from his people. This would be where you start, I suppose. He comes after the invasion.

...Well, ingame, it kind of does. You'll eventually find the general-purpose assault rifle that the onship security guards use. It's basically an assault rifle. Its secondary fire is this 360-bullet-shower thing.

The intent is to keep with Isaac's profession. He's a space engineer, not a space marine. That's why he uses modified Bolt Cutters, Plasma Torches, etc.

Hell, they actually work better THAN the assault rifle in my point of view...I mean..damn, he fires one round from one of his weapons and he practially reduces one of those things to bits. xD
