STUPENDI!!!!!!!!!
SPLENDIDO !
I agree. He is a magnificent tenor and a brilliant musician..this is stylistically and musically superb! I just love Giacomini. It is such a shame that certain "showbiz" tenors and opera popularizers came along at the same time. He was better than all of them. The Europeans were smarter than the Americans in that respect. They always appreciated him--especially the Austrians, Germans and Italians.
Dimitrova was one of my favourite singers. Actually she still is, but she has died of cancer a few years ago. She is still a national art treasure in Bulgaria where she was born. I saw her in Verona in 2001 - one of her final performances, she returned for them from retirement and she was still fantastic!
Fortunately I heard Giacomini live once but not often enough. He and Jaime Aragall were -2- great voices sometimes erratic and unfortunately not in the IN CROWD.
Chenier is not one of the great operas, and it needs powerhouse voices like these to make it work. The most thrilling Chenier in the theater was Curt Baum, even better than del Monaco, whose voice did not have it's usual ring that night... Milanov and Warren were his co-stars.
songsofscarlet......Yes, I was there, there being Philly. The Met came to Philly in those days. I think it was right after delMonaco's sensational debut in "Aida", they came with "Chenier". He looked magnificent, but his top sounded tired. Milanov was nearing the end...Tebaldi was the new rage. Warren was fine, as always.
Giacomini was an excellent musician and stylist. You can see the seriousness of his approach in his conversation with the director, who treats him very much as an equal. Intelligent, musical, strong-willed, and with a great voice. Quite a singer, and quite a man!
how wonderful to watch true professionals at work. the mutual respect and admiration is obvious, and the trust that he puts in the singer is amazing. a rarity these days.

Dimitrova hated being typecast as Turandot, Abigaille and Lady MacBeth. Did she just get old and retire? or what?

Polo Olmi mi sembra un grande direttore che segue molto i cantanti a differenza di quel cesso di Muti

due voci che dal vivo riempivano il teatro e che nelle registrazioni audio e video non riescono sicuramente a rendere come nelle esecuzioni live....

The man without vocal limits.
"è questo il mio destino si chiama: amor!"
How beautiful and so very interesting with the clips inbetween from rehearsals. Dimitrova is the perfect combatant for Giuseppe.
