  • replay, replay, replay. . . sorry everything else

  • Nothing like a first listen to a old Thom song. . . Thanks for posting

  • I used to think it sounded like a typewriter in the background. Chopping veg. Rock 'n roll!

  • chopped vegetables in the background

  • thanks thom

  • This song really breakes me down. It makes me feel all the beautiful tragedy of life running through my veins.

  • Thumbs up for the Anthony Bourdain Promo before the vid!

  • Just beautiful.

  • So -- You'll remember this song getting released im sure - I remember thinkking my this is an in-accesable one, with the muffled recording, hecy piano recording etc. Years later I find it uploaded on YouTube - This obscure, hard to fathom little song has been played nearly 86 thousand times on this tube alone. There is something quite magical about that realization!

  • What surfing on the nett with nothing to do was all about . I must say to find so many like me who have being here and gone is amazing . Life - Breath - Growth - oh oh oh oh how he make me feel oh oh oh my last breath I hope I hear a sing like this by the one and only Tom . Thanks my man for everything Love YE !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i jus realized there is an entire plethora of great radiohead music outside the 8 or so albums =

  • @dynospectrum

    you should get their singles..

songs like fog, how can you be sure, gagging order, faithless the wonder boy.. are amazing!

  • @dynospectrum Listen to the piano version of Fog (here on YouTube), it's amazing. Often, they overproduce stuff (like Spinning Plates) and the stripped down versions are better.

  • @dynospectrum yeah most of the b sides alone are way better than most bands a sides lol

  • I first heard this song in 2000. Got it off Napster at work and listened with head phones. I always thought the sound in the background was someone with a lighter clicking it over and over. With headphones the the snapping sound is more relevant/prevalent. I still like to think it is a lighter being flicked over and over.

  • Ed wants to play guitar on reckoner? Sit the fuck down and play tambourine. LOL

  • detuned piano! and still.. it sounds like WOW. love this song

  • @WavieCassiopeia

a piano is not detuned, its just the way u use it

  • Thom brought this recording into the studio as raw material, but the band decided that it should stay as it was. Ed and Phil said that it "blew them away".

  • if its just thom it should say that not radiohead

  • @3usandthem Well, Thom brought it to radiohead... He wasn't doing solo work when he made this.

  • Respond to this video... Brought it into the studio, i mean.

  • never heard this song till now its great

  • wow, a radiohead song i had never heard before.. feels like a christmas present!

  • sadly funky piano playing

  • The noises in the back ground are his then girlfriend putting away the groceries and doing the washing up. Rock 'n' roll ! One of my absolute favourite Radiohead songs.

  • 4 people made by stone

  • @SOUTHPARKFOREVER240 @TheTasteOfReason I have grown into an audiophile with minor regard to the poetic meaning. Sure it's interesting, but that's not how I judge music. Unless it's about "cash cars girls", you get the point. Try Sigur Ros' album "()". The tracks aren't titled, and the lyrics are literally a made up gibberish they call Hopelandic. It's one of the greatest albums I've ever heard. southparkforever240 is an arrogant n00b

  • I've really been into Radiohead's B-sides. And, I like the fact that they actually have B-sides seeing as how the entire music industry minus a select few even care about that thing we all (here) used to call an "album."

  • What a fantastatic enhancement to our daily lives (both Home & Professional)!

  • @seekperfection this is a joke right? well i dont know its kind of sad so many more of a depressed realists commentary

  • Have i already told you today how much i love you for having uploaded this?

  • This is the most heartbreakingly beautiful song I've ever heard - even more so than "Imagine"... which is saying a lot. The chords are so simple yet so devastatingly emotional. Absolutely transcendent.

  • I found the explanation for this song: "Thom Yorke explained in concert that he was at the grocery store with his girlfriend and after he picked out a carton of eggs and paid for them she dropped the entire carton in the parking lot putting them in the car. He wasn't able to catch it in time and his girlfriend yelled out in excitement and regret. He told her to just get in the car and sit down. So when he got home he wrote this song."

  • @IanLeoden i guess the most powerful and emotional sounding songs have the most casual meanings. Thom Yorke has that ability to do such things :)

  • @IanLeoden

Hahahaha!!!! he must have been pulling everyones leg... cos thats just amazingly hilarous!

  • @IanLeoden Eggs... isn't he a vegan?

  • @sagefo I don't know the legitimacy of this. It is most likely a joke, but I thought I'd share it with everyone.

  • @sagefo he is also married, so it probably happened a while back

  • @IanLeoden So this song came from Smashed eggs lol That would have given me hungry not will to write a song :P Just joking there eheh this song is great... and is live... what makes it even awesomer!

  • @IanLeoden lol Are you serious? Maybe I should smash some eggs too to get some inspiration, which I need.

  • @IanLeoden That's hilarious! But it's ruined it for me. I thought it was about letting go of guilt/regret or grief, not eggs. But there we are. Apparently, 'Yesterday' by the Beatles started off as "Scrambled eggs, oh my dear you have such lovely legs." Maybe eggs are the gateway to genius...

  • @IanLeoden Thought Thom and Rachel were vegans :/

  • @ThomComputer Something I just stumbled upon. Take it with a grain of salt.

  • I have always thought the noise in the background was a cigarette lighter. I used to listen to this over with sony headset that made this song crystal clear and over. I discovered it on Napster. Someone says that it is his girlfriend cutting veggies, I still think it's a lighter being flicked over and over. I still think that because my impression of Radiohead is them always putting a unique sound into their songs like that. Whatever it is I think it makes the song just that more interesting.

  • this along with Fog are my two favorite radiohead songs

  • Good lord. Is there a piano tuner in the house???

  • @gurn73 this was an impromptu recording by Thom sitting in his living room messing around...you can hear his girlfriend chopping veggies in the background. Pretty fucking amazing.

  • @harybosco thaaats what that sound was lol ((:

  • 3 people were expecting "creep part two".

  • This, and the acoustic version of Street Spirit put the whole "Lost Treasures" album to great justice. Got to love it.

  • I cant explain this..I simply cant

  • I heard this song for the first time the other day and it made me cry.

  • lagend

  • I got the sheet music, in case anyone is interested.

  • @HomunculusProject I AM!!!!!!!!!

  • @HomunculusProject I am *very* interested.

  • This song seems to be Thom's entry into writers block.

  • I don't know what Thom Yorke has been saying about this song but I never thought of it as a joke. When songwriters write songs they at first sing anything that comes out. This to me sounds like that .I think he just recorded an idea at the very beginning stages. That's why it's called how I made my millions. It's how he writes songs. But Yes I always thought the lyrics were just made up on the spot.

  • Radiohead is so buitiful that you don't even half to know what there saying to love there songs. such rythmic cadences being combind to make master pieces.

  • Truly incredible how talented Thom Yorke and Radiohead are. He doesn't even have to try anymore to impress me or the other loyal die-hard fans. This is just a raw original song that is amazing. You can hear his gf in the background dickin' around in the kitchen. If i was her hearing this I would have stopped what I was doin and been like goddamnnnnnnn ha

  • Gives me goosebumps

  • people just listen to the music ! the words have soo much meaning !

  • @SOUTHPARKFOREVER240 Actually there's not much meaning in the lyrics of this one, he titled it How I Made My Millions to make a point, that he can write completely vague lyrics over beautiful piano music and people will eat it up. I love this song but he meant it as a big joke.

  • @jirdimaster Ahahaha go to page 2 :) I said exactly the same thing as you and got attacked by random people(apparently it means something deep to them :P )

  • @SOUTHPARKFOREVER240 Lol Thom himself said it, if they need to find meaning in it that's fine for them, it's a beautiful song but it doesn't mean anything.

  • @jirdimaster Ahahahaha. FINALLY ! SOMEBODY WHO DID RESEARCH ! thumbs up, I was beginning to think i was losing my head there :P

  • spiffybiro wins the award

  • Thom recorded this while his girl friend was coming home from grocery shopping, you can hear the door open and the sound of bags on the kitchen counter.

  • And the youtube douchebag award 2011 goes to.......oh my, it's a tie!...

  • wow both of you stfu and listen to the music

  • who listens this got music taste!

  • This is my most played song on itunes. It's beautiful.

  • or you can just enjoy the tune, pay no attention to any meaning at all and listen(Which is how some bands make their millions)

  • @SOUTHPARKFOREVER240 I'd like to bring up the point that meaning is not merely derived from the lyrics. I have a condition that prevents me from making intelligible sense of all but the most blatantly front-mixed lines. As a result, I've grown up judging music and its meaning purely based on the timbres, volumes, pitches, rhythms, etc. present in the piece. Besides, strictly speaking, poetry is a different medium of art than music anyhow, and the two are often just blended together.

  • Comment removed

  • @TheTasteOfReason That is rediculus...I have never heard more meekrob than what you have just said. if you listen to any songs, there usually is a meaning(as far as modern day bands are concerned) if you just listen to the melody, you better listen to Bach, Debussy, Beethoven, or Mozart...because not paying attention to lyrics is like looking at a painting while its dark out. you just being ignorant to Thom ! Sorry for your condition, listening to bob dylan has no meaning with that condition.

  • @SOUTHPARKFOREVER240 Sigh...I'm not going to fight with you, even though you speak with a forked tongue. Rather, I'll just address your message's points to nudge your view a little more into focus. Firstly, you seem to think I deny the possibility of lyrics holding meaning. Simple response is I do not. I find it funny that you bring up modern bands and meaning in the same breath though, as lately I've been seeing a trend toward superficial, plastic cal for the masses released.

  • @SOUTHPARKFOREVER240 I said so explicitly in my first message but you seem to have missed it so I'll say it again, but even more clearly: listen to far, far more than the melody. Not only that, but I believe rhythm is more improtant than note selection could ever be. I also see the merit in chaotic, dissonant, autistic ramblings. Did a conscious being manipulate sound waves for the purpose of them being heard? If so, it's music.

  • @SOUTHPARKFOREVER240 You imply that just because I am incapable of (not inattentive to) hearing lyrics [since you seem at least mildly interested, it's called auditory processing disorder, and I'll let you learn what you will on it], I ought to listen to purely instrumental pieces? To borrow your own phrasing, it's not often I get to hear such meekrob these days. The human voice is an amazing instrument that has the potential to take music to whole new levels.

  • @SOUTHPARKFOREVER240 I do take offense to your suggestion that the words are the be all and end all of what constitutes music though, especially since, as stated earlier, the words have nothing whatsoever to do with the music. Music is the manipulation of sound waves and is 100% subjective. Poetry is the manipulation of semantics and has a tendency to be far more objective. Two different forms of art, and similar to how film is a bastard's brew of all sorts of art mediums,

  • @SOUTHPARKFOREVER240 both can be enacted together — and highly successfully at that — but that does not mean that all of a sudden the definition of music changes into the definition of poetry. So you say I am ignorant of one of my favorite vocalists do you? And that another is meaningless to me? Then you are quite presumptuous, m'dear. don't you dare pity me, for in our brief exchange it has been made excruciatingly clear that I hear many things you do not. And for that, I feel sorry for you.

  • @TheTasteOfReason How funny it is for you to do what you said you werent going to do? you want to fight !?jusus you must be a total "GOSH" "DARN" Retard. Nuff said, so i really feel sad for you, the fact that you spent about 15-20 minutes thinking of a way to respond to what I have said, and than rambling through some bullshit. I dont have to go to church thanks to you ! I have had my share of preaching this week. Im glad not all us fans are as full of shit as you are, (sigh)

  • @SOUTHPARKFOREVER240 Mmm...didn't know that in starting conversation I prodded a self-righteous twat. Therefore, since brevity is the soul of wit, and tediousness the limbs and outward flourishes, I will be brief. Glad to provide a harmless output for your negative outlook on life.

  • @TheTasteOfReason ahahaha, im showing my friends your bullshit ! please reply ! this beats reality TV !

  • @SOUTHPARKFOREVER240 I have nothing more to say to you, but I happily invite you to be such a big man as to continue throwing anonymous insults on fucking YouTube at me. It really succeeds in making you look cool, and also in emotionally scarring me.

  • @SOUTHPARKFOREVER240 wow I just followed you and the @thetasteofreason's fight...keep arguing its very entertaining....

  • you do know that this guy is making a joke ! hes making millions by talking random nonsense...with a melody ! i mean it doesnt take a genious to know that this is what hes trying to say "NO I WONT SAY A WORD" " Let it Fall...Let is Fall" WTF? this band is just pure class and genius...they are deep! Poetry !

  • Nothing Radiohead has ever done has been wrong. This is no exception.

  • What I find strange is that the piano in Thom Yorke's house is out of tune. Works great for the song though.

  • I was stronger I was better Picked you out No, don't say a word No, don't yell out Never mind Led you out Led you back Stay on Sit down Let it fall Let it fall Let it fall Let it fall
  • I'm surprised that this song hasn't made a million views yet. This is the most beautiful song I've heard in a while.

  • you can hear thom's girlfriend putting away groceries in the background, because thom recorded this at home

  • this man...is absolutely brilliant

i dare appreciating him more than the beatles

every piece of work, every piece of music he ever made are just perfect

The lyrics are really really deep and take some time to understand

The music ist brilliant and if most of his songs are depressing...why the fuck should that be wrong?

    I love depressing radiohead

The vocals...if i should make it, it propably would be like that in heaven

  • pure greatness

  • This song is absulutely amazing

  • So haunting yet very beautiful.

  • This is art. This is music.

  • @Artingence well music is concitered an art so obvesiously you posses a good understanding of common sence

  • @jonnny9000 Well im my opinion not every painting is a product of an artist.. and not every music is. I know that the term "good" is relative.. but i think only the good music is art.

    (sry for bad eng)

  • i have this on repeat right now and though it is incredibly depressing to listen to, it makes me concentrate on my work and avoid unnecessary online distractions. other songs don't have this effect on me for some reason.

  • This song is utterly devastating.

  • i never knew what thommy (sp?) was going on about. haunting and beeautifoo!

  • I'm about a third of the way though "It's Kind of a Funny Story" by Ned Vizzini and I feel like the main character really needs to listen to this song.

  • Thom yorke explained in concert that he was at the grocery store with his girlfriend and after he picked out a carton of eggs and paid for them she dropped the entire carton in the parking lot putting them in the car. He wasn't able to catch it in time and his girlfriend yelled out in excitement and regret. He told her to just get in the car and sit down. So when he got home he wrote this song.

  • wow how had i never heard this til this morning? This is one of thom's best. What a touching little number! I had a tear.

  • Everytime i hear this song touch my soul.....This beatiful song is one of the best of Radiohead, they are an amazing band.

  • absolutely sublime. youd think it was written so long ago. the recording feels so far away in space but so close to your heart. more beautiful than i can even say.

  • Like this?

Check out "Daydreams_Here I'm All Right"

  • Is it just me or did Evanescence copy this song for My Immortal?

  • To whatever three people disliked this... We'll find you...

  • @ChablesMan creed fans. they're mad because radiohead has talent and genius sound. creed sounds like farting dwarfs.

  • @ayaanhafiz dwarves*

  • @ayaanhafiz lol

  • @ChablesMan and do what?

  • @jeremynischuk We'll figure that out later

  • @ChablesMan guess ill help with the 4th now

  • @ChablesMan love this comment!!

  • actually my favourite Radiohead-song.

  • interesting, sounds like the piano version of last flowers.

  • God I teared up. well fuck man. very raw. sorrow-y feel. go with the flow even if it hurts its good to cry sometimes.

  • god that was so good, i nearly cried!

  • gallaky, yea it wasnt laundry she was putting away the groceries and making supper.

  • yeah let the world fall.

  • thoms a freakin genius,,,hahah i hear the carrot chopping in the background pretty sweet for improv

  • I LOVE RADIOHEAD

  • It's damn near impossible to put this into words but I'll try my best...

    Absolute brilliance.

  • too cheesy but i agree

  • idk it sorta reminds me of john lennon's song love a bit. haha great song.

  • so simple, yet so beautiful.

i just fell in love with yet another radiohead song....

  • nice song... should be on an album.

    Maybe their next one? :O

  • It is already on a few albums look out for the rarities LP released in 1997.

  • Supposedly this was recorded by Thom at his house. His girlfriend was making dinner and you can hear the carrots being chopped in the background. Don't really know if that story is true though.

  • apparently she was doing the dishes.

  • i love this song, it makes me cry......

  • simply amazing. Long Live Radiohead, one of the best bands ever. No other band can pull the emotions out like they can. It heals, it soothes, it says you are not the only one. Its immortal, its timeless.

  • @TheDumbObama THE best band ever

  • i can't help but cry when i listen to this song.

i feel like all of thom yorkes music is just so universal, anyone can specifically relate.

  • but only few understand.

  • class

  • it's interesting to think that thom works in his home, but doesn't use an isolated room where background noise won't get in when he records something like this?

sounds just so bare and innocent and new like a little band's home recorded demo, except ... its Thom Yorke, man.

  • that's so true. and i bet he just wrote this on a whim. it's a beautifully organic song.

  • I think he didn't expect this song to be shown to everyone as a B-Side, maybe he just wanted to keep it to himself

  • or mabye he wanted it to sound this raw. i know when i was younger i would record, open a window, and have my sister play outside, just to get thst homie feel. but i dont know mabye im just weird to want that feel.

  • well i know exactly what you mean, and to want that feel definitely makes you weird in this world, but at least you aren't alone.

  • Nice feeling you described there.... not weird... a feeling... and its hard to put pure feelings on songs... yorke always knew how to do that....

  • @dareinsanity apparently he took it to the band in this four track recording and it blew them away. They didnt want to touch it. So they put it out in this recording...along with the kitchen noises from Thom's girlfriend Rachel. Or so i read on green plastic...

  • @cameronforbes4

I absolutely read the same thing. Wow... green plastic and at ease ae two sites I haven't been to in years.

  • makes you wonder if he knows who he is and what kind of powerful influence he has on us...

  • i can't even describe..

  • My god... this is definitely my new favorite Radiohead song.

    More beautiful than life itself.

  • this is so beautiful.....its crazy how this is the original 4track recording that Thom did in his home.....and the fact that we here his girlfriend in the background putting away groceries or wutever...i just get this picture that while shes doing that Thom is sitting at the piano, singing, recording this beautiful song.....just another day in the Yorke household!

  • Holly god this song is beautiful. His voice, the piano, the lyrics. its all enough to make me wanna cry lol.

  • i've been a radiohead fan for years, since itunes released the collectors version of three of their albums including this one as one of them. When i heard this song, it hit me hard, it's sounds different there other stuff i've heard. But simply just totally amazing.

  • There's a guy in my neighbourhood that looks exactly like him it's unreal xD

Anywho! Love the song, <3 my favorite Radiohead song, by far ^^

  • Then you are a fool if you don't hit on him hard >=P (I assume you're a girl).

As a guy, I'm just waiting to find a Joanna Newsom lookalike ;D

  • zarpadi negro, pelotudiando encontré este canal y me dije, seeeeee es del santi (H) XD

viste qe onda? cuando subas los cosos a mediafire, avisame y los bajo, me re prendi maaaal (H)

  • he has the voice of a zombie angel! xD lilkuriboh refrence

  • Feels like thom yorke is in your own house.

  • my ex was a musician. he too would write and perform in our home. you get used to it, but i really shouldn't have.... if thom were mine, i would be listening!!! beautiful song from a beautiful man ;)

  • This song kinda makes me feel like Thom Yorke is singing and playing the piano right next to me and my mom is making supper in the kitchen :P

  • What an adorable thought. =)

  • @K7K7K1 whats an adorable thought?

  • @80sRockerKid The person you hear washing dishes in the background is Thom's girlfriend. :-)

  • @susannkorda Sounds more like pedal/hammer noise from the piano.
