@theneedledrop I am watching some of your past reviews (I subscribed back in november) and let me tell you something: I admire you. You don't care if the review will give you negative feedback because of the fans of the musician watch it. You always say what you think and feel of the music. Please don't change.
Even though Suck It and See is nowhere near good as humbug, its still a fucking enjoyable album to kick back and listen to. So I dont give a fuck what anybody else says. I love this fucking album!
i love the arctic monkeys. although this album WAS my least favorite out of the 3, it had some moments. all my own stunts is great. and i did like dont sit down cause ive moved your chair because of the psychedelic kinda theme (which im really into). still not as good as the other 3 albums
This review depresses me. This has got to me one of my favorite albums ever and he just wails on it the whole time. Sure Brick by Brick isn't lyrically innovative, but all the other parts of the song more than make up for it. And Don't Down Cause I've Moved Your Chair sucks? Really? It has the great silent then loud intro, a very nice riff, fairly good lyrics and the guitar dubbing near the end is amazing. This album may be a hard pill to swallow for some, but it doesn't make it less amazing.
brick by brick wasn't released as a single, they've already said it was a joke of a song. this whole review is pretty much just making fun of DSDCIMYC, which is disappointing.
completely agree about the single switcharoo thing. brick by brick and don't sit down etc are probs their worst songs ever. but the others are really good.
I can understand about innovation and originality, but YOU have got to realise sometimes a good tune should just be acknowledged as simply a good tune. STOP trying to treat music like maths all the time.
In my opinion, the album was decent. I mean it's not their best work, like Favourite Worst Nightmare was awesome!!! but! the songs were catchy, the riffs were drug to my ears! In my opinion it was good. =]

I actually prefer Humbug. It's 'similar' in style yet, while not as consistent, there are some fantastic moments of songwriting (Pretty Visitors, Cornerstone). It's not that the songs are bad on their latest, they just underwhelm me, lacking the edge, charm, or lyrical craft which we all know they are capable of across the albums ENTIRETY. It's like they're trying too hard to hold onto their initial sound (Brick by Brick, DSDCIMYC), Humbug was an unashamedly big change, this seems less assertive
@supercamel0 Humbug is fuckin god compared to suck it and see I mean the songs are great the musicianship is great the song writng and lyrics are great evertihng's great for me but suck it and see is like eh not so good musicinship on some song is kinda cool and good but it's all still a let down so i have to agree with tihs guy and his review
I DISAGREE 100%, Suck It and See Does further evolve the sounds from Humbug and the album is full of quality songs. Turners' lyrical melodies especially in The Hellcat Spangled and She's Thunderstorms are outstanding and I see no weeks spots in any of the tracks.
I agree with you on Brick by brick and DSDCIMYC, but the rest of the album in great. Tunderstorms, Black Treacle, Hellcat, Love is a laserquest, Suck it and See, That's Where You're Wrong. Are all 9or10/10. Library Pictures is unusally wonderful, All my own stunts has nice moments in it and Recless serenade is lovely to listen too. I love Piledriver Waltz but I preferred the version he recorded for the Submarine EP.
people still hung up about them switching from the first two album sound need to sort their act out, i dont mind you going on about how the albums shit n that, but the comment about the melodies... and foo fighters arent worthy to each shit off these guys shoes

@mitchqqqqqq For the sake of being humorous I'm gonna be a bit immature and say: "you started it," cause you technically did, haha. In any regard, I was just defending my point that an artist can "evolve" but that doesn't mean they are improving, at all. I'll agree with you in your right to disagree, though.
WOW I find it weird that you review these albums.. you reaally dont look like youre too musically influenced or that type of a person,, honestly i cant even PICTURE you singing a song... ANY..i dunno ...maybe its just me,,
Had heard this album a while back...contrary to what the reviewer thinks i thought the singles were pretty good...but the album itself was a let down for me....but i won't hate on these guys...cause you know what at least with every album they are pushing for something new....that for me is the most thing......
First off; What Ever People Say I Am, Thats What I'm Not is one the best albums ever made imo. Now that we got that shit out the way, I enjoy most of these songs on the album but ya brick by brick is so lame (so is the music video) but the album picks up at least it trys to anyways. Definitely Arctic Monkeys worst out yet makes you appreciate Humbug a little more at least the lyrics were solid.
An undeniable fact that influences your opinion on this album and all Arctic Monkeys albums, is your nationality. Brits will get every reference and every hint of their humour which is later magnified by the structure and Alex's accent. For me Whatever People Say I am, Thats What I'm Not is the best album ever written and only Nas's Illmatic comes close musically and lyrically but thats because I'm 17 now and its came out in 2005,I've grown up in Britain with it. Knowing what it means to be them
I honestly struggled to sit through this review, I mean I did and.. now I've realised I've wasted my complete fucking time. Although fair enough its your opinion I completely disagree with it. What do you fucking expect them to keep the same sound for 6 years and write about that same stuff they did when they were 18? No, because that's just not feasible. Plus your VERY VERY annoying.
@adamgergich96 i have not dismissed it like I said on my earlier comment 'although its your opinion'. I think fair enough has his own opinion all im saying is I completely disagree with it, besides adamgergich are you the needle drops girlfriend or something? he hasnt actually responded to my comment yet.
agree completely with the review, most cliched lyrics ever in brick by brick and dont sit down... but it does pick up with the hellcat spangled shalalalala, library pictures, suck it and see. atleast its not as bad as humbug....
they told before the release this album would alot more "pop" than rock, and it indeed is. If you expect it to be poprock, it's definitely the BEST pop rock album of this year. And I love how they made the cover so simple as a reference to The Beatles' "White Album" (:
I like Suck It And See. I don't love the album, but I love individual songs like Piledriver Waltz, She's Thunderstorms, and Don't Sit Down 'Cause I've Moved Your Chair. I love their first two albums more than any other albums in the world, so I was underwhelmed by their fourth. However, I think still think it was better than the third.
She's thunderstorms, vocally, reminds me of Morrissey! Which is great. Black Treacle is just super catchy. This albums under thought simplicity is what makes it one of my favs this year.
Definitely not the best album but still, I liked it, as I have all their albums. For me, it's: Humbug>FWN=WYSIA,IWIN=SIAS, but saying that, it's still a great album. 7/8 out of ten in my opinion.
Im more of the hard rocking, ass kicking View from the afternoon listiner but this new album is a long way from humbug. While some songs do remind me of an arcade fire spin off, most just bled together into an endrogonus mix of chords and rythyms. -anyway- album is still a "hit" in my book and im sure there is a lot lyricly that im missing. I mean what the hell is a "blacktrecal". Please excuse spelling
Typical American review, can't grasp the subtlety or sarcasm of arctic monkeys. You really think Aleex Turner, who wrote "a certain romance" could do as good seriously as "brick by brick". It's amazing
@bertprob Typical (and very tired) UK/Euro comment about the "stupid" Americans. I don't think the sarcasm is lost on anyone (and how does one's location have anything to do with whether they caught that or not?). I just don't think a lot of people even care that he's being sarcastic in the first place. Because, honestly, this record is one big snoozefest in the context of their discography. But that's just my opinion (and, btw, EVERYONE is entitled to their own opinion).
I agree with you to some extent... I prefered them back in the years when they were different. Now they sound as if they didn't have decent songs and just wanted to release an album for the sake of it.
Arctic monkeys songs are not corny (btw saying "corny" is indeed "corny" it's self stupid American) They are poetic and the have meaning. Every song is memorable and every album is different first album is lively and it talks about life in England. Second album more hardcore but I'm not to sure what it means. Third album is quite more poetic. And the 4th album is more relaxed and more about love
Personally I give the new album a 10 out of 10 it's just so freaking awesome
This is a pretty good album to my liking. Arctic monkeys aren't the band everyone hyped them up to be, maybe even so bad that everyone keeps expecting more, but they make nice fucking rock. When I'm sitting in my living room not watching pretty cocky reviews, this is what I like to listen to. That's all a band has to do on an LP. Live on stage, different story. But the album is NICE
Harsh much?? At rating albums..you Suck (at) It, and See(ms) to me like you are one of those fakes who tries to be cool and listen to all types of music and tries to know as much as possible about them so people would think you are cool, when really you are just a loser!!!! Well i have only watched this review and the angles review, but i totally disagree with you! YOU CAN SUCK IT!!
Totally agree, couple of descent songs on there, lyrics are a little shabby and all over the place in most of the songs, one thing i did like about the album was their use of louder and deeper guitar riffs, they executed those well but in my opinion the album just sounds too samey and repetitive definately there worst album yet.
I think the review was fair enough, a bit harsh with 5/10 but hey its his verdict, I really liked it myself, most likely because it's been a pretty average year in general for LP's.
alright whats wrong with a little different direction man? i mean sure their older stuff was great not gonna lie but so is this stuff. Don't get mad just cause they're not conforming to what people like. Its THEIR music and they can do whatever the hell they want with it and this is amazing music in my opinion even if its different from other albums so SUCK IT AND SEE!!
It's one of those albums where you're disappointed with the money you spent, no less, one of your favorite bands getting lazy on you.
You have to listen to it a couple times to kind of like it. If it's.I don't want that. I want to hear it the first time and be wowed. Like Favourite Worst Nightmare, after their first album.
I took the batteries out my mysticism and put them in my thinking cap.
I do still enjoy his lyrics, to an extent, as you said.
this is a band progressing changing and growing up, still real good from an avid monkeys fan but i know if an album is good and this is i'm not sayin i will always be a fan even if its crap but this isn't crap its very good and maybe i get it and this guy just doen't its perhaps a culture northern thing goin on.... get my drift.....no dis respect from people from other cultures
i actually love this album. Probably my favorite monkeys album tbh. Though i'm a big fan of pop rock like this. Yeah there's nothing original, the spin for me is that it all sounds familiar, but you don't know from where, and you sorta know where the songs are gonna go but it's still great, and they managed to make it a lil fresh.
Nothing original? Sure, but nothing is original. However, this is definitely a lot different to a lot of stuff currently (although Chapel Club were sort of bringing the Shoegaze stuff first...) I personally believe it's their best album by far, anyway.
I must say you made some very true points in your review, and I agreed with a good bit of them. Though I am giving this record a chance by listening through it more and more, and I found that through each listen, it grows on me and the songs sound more solid sonically. I think that at heart, what we loved about the monkeys to begin with is still present. The intrigue and the craftsmanship within the band is still present in certain shades.
"Dont sit down cause ive moved your chair". Alex Turner's way of saying to the critics to not get used to the style of music he has been writing previous to the album, before they go all judgemental on the "slow paced" songs of Suck it and See, which I enjoy.
i viewed you as a credible reviewer until all that fucking shit just spewed out of your mouth about this album. goodbye needle cock. americans don't get sarcasm.
I actually really love this album but I have to admit I have a strong bias for both Arctic Monkeys and QOTSA. A few of the songs really reminded me of that Josh Homme sound but then there are few more that I really can't get out of my head and honestly I don't mind them being there. I do agree with your point about releasing the worst songs as singles.. Brick By Brick gets more tiring every time I hear it.
as a diehard arctic monkeys fan i loved this album at times, but i totally agree with everything you said about the corny lyrics and Brick by Brick and Dont Sit Down being the worst songs on the album. my friends love and i love this band but nothing annoys me more than hearing "roll the die" over and over again. thank you for saying what needed to be said!
i actually really liked the album think it better than humbug... but to me favorite worse nightmare is the best album, there starting to remind me how i feel about the strokes in how i like there new new albums but i really starting to miss there old sound and how raw it was ......
Alot of people have been waiting for this album to come up and when it did, its highly doubtful it reached everybody's expectation. Unfortunately it didn't for me it didn't have that the rawkus lyrical undertones that humbug had. It almost felt like lyrics were just being thrown in either like it had been rushed or that Alex turner just liked the word and wanted to put it in at all costs. The albums ok. Songs like All My Own Stunts and Piledriver Waltz are clearly the standouts.
shut up you american spastic read into things first. alex turner is one of the best lyricists of this modern age and your calling his lyrics crap? shut the fuck up you bald cunt
i've never quite liked this guy, because he is incredibly biased to anything that isn't totally indie. and now it's also because the dudes a vegan. i hate vegans
I think it's a very average album, there's nothing that significant. I think a strong 6 for me would do it. For me, there's nothing that's really caught my ear to look forward to listening to it over and over
Very decent album. It lacks catchy tunes like they used to make, but overall this record is great form the beginning to the end. Bob Dylan style with Humbug sound. I think, it's their second best album after their debut one. I hate Beady eye too, btw )))
@josheskimo Alex Turner on 'Brick by Brick': 'It's just a fucking laugh isn't it"
I think some of the people here don't understand that on songs like 'Brick by Brick' or 'Don't Sit Down...' they're just having a laugh, and that these songs aren't to be taken too seriously.
With the exception of Brick by brick, the album is fucking amazing. Don't sit down 'cause I've moved your chair is absolutely fucking amazing. Yanks don't understand British music; stick to Green Day.
I listened to the album and I don't consider it "BAD", it's just 100% meh. also, schaafbryan1122, AM is one of my favourite bands, but this album was nowhere near the level of the previous ones, the "band evolves" is only valid for when the evolution takes them somewhere interesting. Alex Turner did a magnificent solo EP, yet this album has nothing really magnificent in my eyes.
Also, Anthony just stated his opinion, why get so agressive? I'm sure they raved about this album on NME, go read that
Here's why I hate music critics. Any time a band evolves or changes their sound, they bitch that they don't sound like they used to. When they stay the same album after album, they bitch that they're not coming up with anything new. Suck it and See is a fantastic album in the same manner that Whatever You Say ..., Favourite Worst Nightmare and Humbug were fantastic - they each fit into their own niche.

You might enjoy the album more with your head removed from your ass.
@anujbeatles he obviously is when he thinks the foo fighters are more rock n roll than the arctic monkeys.. I mean foo fighters are good but they've got nothing on arctic monkeys
brick by brick is terrible but they only made a video and it wasnt officially released as a single ...
dont sit down till i moved your chair is pretty awesome
overall its an album you have too listen too more before you like it. however its a bit too soft and melodic for the arctic monkeys that i want. their excitement and energy has been lost a bit too much. however much better than humbug and challenges favourite worst nightmare.
I think that arctic monkeys wanted to give their album title a fitting meaning so they released their least favorite songs first, so we had to suck it and see so to speak.
Songs like Library Pictures, Don't Sit Down... , Black Treacle, Hellcat Spangled Shalalala, Piledriver Waltz and All My Own Stunts I immensely enjoy. I replay them consistently in the car and here at home.
The fact their sound has shifted a bit isn't a bad thing, because I think they pull it off really well. They balance SIAS with fast and slow songs, and to me, that's nice. Like Humbug, this album is a chill, at ease, album. I think AM did a great job :)
Its great that Arctic Monkeys haven't continued, in any album, the same sound from their previous album. That is what is so great about them. The fact that they come out with a new sound and pull it off so well is the greatest thing about them. It would be terrible to see them play the same sounding songs over and over again and so this is why I find this album so great.
i LOVED the album....i was glad to hear u agree abt piledriver waltz atleast...

Had heard this album a while back...contrary to what the reviewer thinks i thought the singles were pretty good...but the album itself was a let down for me....but i won't hate on these guys...cause you know what at least with every album they are pushing for something new....that for me is the most thing......
chewjewna 5 months ago 11
First off; What Ever People Say I Am, Thats What I'm Not is one the best albums ever made imo. Now that we got that shit out the way, I enjoy most of these songs on the album but ya brick by brick is so lame (so is the music video) but the album picks up at least it trys to anyways. Definitely Arctic Monkeys worst out yet makes you appreciate Humbug a little more at least the lyrics were solid.
Skatertike202 5 months ago

Thepiledriverwaltz 6 months ago
@Thepiledriverwaltz you know, just coz somebody else doesn't like ur favourite bands new album, you can't just dismiss the enitre review.
adamgergich96 5 months ago
@adamgergich96 i have not dismissed it like I said on my earlier comment 'although its your opinion'. I think fair enough has his own opinion all im saying is I completely disagree with it, besides adamgergich are you the needle drops girlfriend or something? he hasnt actually responded to my comment yet.

agree completely with the review, most cliched lyrics ever in brick by brick and dont sit down... but it does pick up with the hellcat spangled shalalalala, library pictures, suck it and see. atleast its not as bad as humbug....

This is probably the 1st needledrop album review I completely disagree with, definitely Arctic Monkeys' most accesible album yet!! love it!!

I strongly disagree with this review. Probably my favorite record from these guys.
kirbywatkins 6 months ago
they told before the release this album would alot more "pop" than rock, and it indeed is. If you expect it to be poprock, it's definitely the BEST pop rock album of this year. And I love how they made the cover so simple as a reference to The Beatles' "White Album" (:

IndianaJoel93 6 months ago
I like Suck It And See. I don't love the album, but I love individual songs like Piledriver Waltz, She's Thunderstorms, and Don't Sit Down 'Cause I've Moved Your Chair. I love their first two albums more than any other albums in the world, so I was underwhelmed by their fourth. However, I think still think it was better than the third.

jojojo0258 7 months ago
She's thunderstorms, vocally, reminds me of Morrissey! Which is great. Black Treacle is just super catchy. This albums under thought simplicity is what makes it one of my favs this year.
MrRyanRamsey 7 months ago
Review is spot on for me. As in I agree. "She's thunderstorm" and "Thats where your wrong" are the only stand out tracks for me.
splinter360 7 months ago

It's amazing
bertprob 7 months ago
@bertprob Typical (and very tired) UK/Euro comment about the "stupid" Americans. I don't think the sarcasm is lost on anyone (and how does one's location have anything to do with whether they caught that or not?). I just don't think a lot of people even care that he's being sarcastic in the first place. Because, honestly, this record is one big snoozefest in the context of their discography. But that's just my opinion (and, btw, EVERYONE is entitled to their own opinion).
degel13 7 months ago
I agree with you to some extent... I prefered them back in the years when they were different. Now they sound as if they didn't have decent songs and just wanted to release an album for the sake of it.

lilmuff69 7 months ago
Arctic monkeys songs are not corny (btw saying "corny" is indeed "corny" it's self stupid American) They are poetic and the have meaning. Every song is memorable and every album is different first album is lively and it talks about life in England. Second album more hardcore but I'm not to sure what it means. Third album is quite more poetic. And the 4th album is more relaxed and more about love
Personally I give the new album a 10 out of 10 it's just so freaking awesome
You Americans can hardl
XxDeathXxxXNotexX 7 months ago
This is a pretty good album to my liking. Arctic monkeys aren't the band everyone hyped them up to be, maybe even so bad that everyone keeps expecting more, but they make nice fucking rock. When I'm sitting in my living room not watching pretty cocky reviews, this is what I like to listen to. That's all a band has to do on an LP. Live on stage, different story. But the album is NICE
!

YOU CAN SUCK IT!!
iamgoos 7 months ago
Totally agree, couple of descent songs on there, lyrics are a little shabby and all over the place in most of the songs, one thing i did like about the album was their use of louder and deeper guitar riffs, they executed those well but in my opinion the album just sounds too samey and repetitive definately there worst album yet.

I couldn't have said it better myself!

Yeah there's nothing original, the spin for me is that it all sounds familiar, but you don't know from where, and you sorta know where the songs are gonna go but it's still great, and they managed to make it a lil fresh.
mangoshakess 8 months ago
Nothing original? lol you suck
johnkeith21 8 months ago
Nothing original? Sure, but nothing is original. However, this is definitely a lot different to a lot of stuff currently (although Chapel Club were sort of bringing the Shoegaze stuff first...) I personally believe it's their best album by far, anyway.
LukeAlphonse14 8 months ago
Apart from Brick by Brick, how can you honestly sit there and criticise the lyrics? You fucking imbecile.
LukeAlphonse14 8 months ago
I must say you made some very true points in your review, and I agreed with a good bit of them. Though I am giving this record a chance by listening through it more and more, and I found that through each listen, it grows on me and the songs sound more solid sonically. I think that at heart, what we loved about the monkeys to begin with is still present. The intrigue and the craftsmanship within the band is still present in certain shades.
snafupenguin 8 months ago
"Dont sit down cause ive moved your chair". Alex Turner's way of saying to the critics to not get used to the style of music he has been writing previous to the album, before they go all judgemental on the "slow paced" songs of Suck it and See, which I enjoy.
futbolfanatic222 8 months ago
i viewed you as a credible reviewer until all that fucking shit just spewed out of your mouth about this album. goodbye needle cock. americans don't get sarcasm.

Brick By Brick gets more tiring every time I hear it.
tomoue 8 months ago
as a diehard arctic monkeys fan i loved this album at times, but i totally agree with everything you said about the corny lyrics and Brick by Brick and Dont Sit Down being the worst songs on the album. my friends love and i love this band but nothing annoys me more than hearing "roll the die" over and over again. thank you for saying what needed to be said!
brianm1994 8 months ago
i actually really liked the album think it better than humbug... but to me favorite worse nightmare is the best album, there starting to remind me how i feel about the strokes in how i like there new new albums but i really starting to miss there old sound and how raw it was ......
thedarkparia 8 months ago
Alot of people have been waiting for this album to come up and when it did, its highly doubtful it reached everybody's expectation. Unfortunately it didn't for me it didn't have that the rawkus lyrical undertones that humbug had. It almost felt like lyrics were just being thrown in either like it had been rushed or that Alex turner just liked the word and wanted to put it in at all costs. The albums ok. Songs like All My Own Stunts and Piledriver Waltz are clearly the standouts.

I'm sure they raved about this album on NME, go read that
alejo210 8 months ago
Here's why I hate music critics. Any time a band evolves or changes their sound, they bitch that they don't sound like they used to. When they stay the same album after album, they bitch that they're not coming up with anything new. Suck it and See is a fantastic album in the same manner that Whatever You Say ..., Favourite Worst Nightmare and Humbug were fantastic - they each fit into their own niche.
schaafbryan1122 8 months ago 10
