  • Legendary aircraft! Thumbs up!

  • I was at this display! If you saw the car out near the runway, that was me and some airport staff! :)

  • this is the toughest propellered bomber the airforce has, this thing will not give up, no matter how many fighters try and tear it apart, a strong bomber that's heavily armored, and, heavily gun armed, plus, the bomb capacity isn't bad at all, the only bomber stronger, is the Boeing B-29 Superfortress, that is a beast of a plane

  • amazing. love the music with it too by the way!

  • excellent footage, well fitted for Glen's music.

there's no sound like the roaring symphony of those four Cyclones.

    thanks for posting.

  • i give my left feet for one flight with this b-17

  • some nice elevator music!

  • Its period big band music. It Glenn Miller. One of the best orchrestra people of that time.

  • Excellent video. Right up close! Good job!

  • Thank You!

I am good friends with the guys that run this airport, how come I got to get a close shot.

    Thank you for the comment!

  • it made me laugh watching an old tape with some b17 crews and lancaster crews arguing which plane was best the b17 navigator said" our planes are so accurate we can put a bomb in a wooden barrel! the lancaster pilot replied with "yes.. but its only a teenie tiny bomb!"

  • Ha ha! I need to see this video, personally I think both planes are great.

    Thank you for the comment!

  • There is one B-17 still flying in the UK and that's the "Sally B". She is on display at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford. I think she just flew in the air show at Biggin Hill and should be in a few more shows this summer.

Thanks for posting this sws4819. Imagine being in the English countryside with a couple hundred 17's flying over at low level. Imagine the sound!

  • That would be delightful, They were not just a machine of war but a work of art. Thank you for the comment, always glad to hear what someone has to say.

  • Pilots who flew fires with postwar B-17s said the planes seemed happier to be flying peaceful missions. Of course, the slicker performance was due to the reduced drag and weight from the guns being removed. Still, many B-17s flew with impossible damage as if they had their own will to protect their crews. I dunno, I guess I can believe God may have put a soul into some of them.

  • ever see the memphis belle, how was that thing still moving? i know its a film but it was based on the real damage the memphis belle took in its final mission

  • Actually, the movie has very little to do with the real Memphis Belle. It is, however based on experiences of numerous other B-17s. The B-17 was just an amazingly tough airplane, and some did come home on just one engine. Some were so torn up that they fell apart after stopping on the runway, but they still brought their crews home. All around, a beautiful aircraft. Every now and then, you can still see one in the skies over San Diego. BEAUTIFUL SIGHT!

  • i was lucky enough to be in paignton when i was 9 (10 years ago) and they has a lancaster and meishersmit(excuse my spelling) flying around for half the day, was an awsome site,

  • I was born in the wrong era, sucks bein 17 cos i dont know anyone who flew one and there aint any in britain that fly ( that i know of) I shud have been born in the 40's or 50's

  • Same here, I like just about every thing from that era, thank you for the comment.

  • My grandfather was a tail gunner on one of these during WWII. Thanks to those who keep these flying for generations to see and appreciate.

  • I Salute your Grandfather.

Thank you for your comment.I always enjoy hearing stories of this bomber.

  • Great video thank you!

  • You're Welcome.

  • My Mother's Friend's Husband crashed one during a training flight and the whole crew survived ;)

  • Oh Man! I am guessing there was no one in the Ball turret.

    Thanks for the response!

  • cool video. My dad flew 33 missions as a top turret gunner on a B-17.

  • I SALUTE HIM FOR THAT! Thank you for the comment

  • Great to see one of those big babies still flying, love the music backing great team. At the end the sounds of those big radial engines, man just great.

  • It sure is. I know what you mean, there's nothing like the sound of a good radial.
