  • I remember blasting this H.A. classic on the stereo when I was alone in the apt. back in 1967! Incredible sound - many thanks for posting!

  • All of his band were Americans, none from Mexico.

  • Desde que escuche la música de Alpert exactamente en el año 67 y del Lp "Going Places", quede encantado con ella y este instrumental que pertenece al Lp "Sounds Like", también hizo que la apreciara todavía mas.

  • just brilliant

  • I HAVE THIS T.V. SPECIAL ON D.V.D. WATCH IT ALL THE TIME. AMERICA CULTURE. HERB IS JEWISH. NONE OF THE OTHERS ARE MEXICAN EITHER.

  • @divine6699 No, they're mostly Italian, actually. You sound like you just discovered this.

  • Incredible, he barely takes a breath after playing 8 bars...lol...Jesus wouldn't it be a lot easier to actually play the freakin' song?

  • Wade in the water. Surfs up. Wax my board........sure thing.

  • I got introduced to Herb Alpert & The Tiajuana Brass courtesy of my mother and father's albums. From there I was hooked. They epitomized what cool in musical form was all about.

  • sorry herb, ramsey lewis beats you to this one, great version though.

  • @MrLawman10 Nobody beats Herb - nobody is cooler than Herb

  • shit

  • wow. note for note the way the old 45 I used to have went. ;-)

nice vid but really would've been so much better were they actually playing...

  • Elavator music ? No way. It's not just for listening to. Better to relax and feel, it. That's one of the reasons Herb Alpert is so brilliant.

  • Tongue and lip syncing.

  • Want this instead of electronic music.

  • this is truly cool. i appreciate it

  • Man does this take me back. I was 8 years old when this came out. But I remember watching all of the TJB specials throughout the sixties. They were a special treat for our family. That was back in the day of three to four stations on the old tube.

  • @phlegmwatcher If you don't like it go watch something else if you can't show proper respect. He's one of the all time greats and he's been a true inspiration to me. Maybe you'll like my band's updated version of the classic Herb Alpert song "Tijuana Taxi". Most people say our video sounds as good as the original (and they are probably right).

  • I soooo love this song (in Herb Alpert's version), the way it builds up to the climax at the end, wonderfull. Great to hear it with this video. Thanks for posting this.

  • Herb just got done touring with his wife Lani Hall and the live shows were great.

  • I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO SEE HERB & THE TJB PLAY AT THE REAL DISNEYLAND IN ANAHIME WAY BEFORE HE GOT ALL FAMOUS WITH A T.V. SHOW & ALL THIS .

IN THE EARLY '60's , DISNEYLAND WAS THE SHOWCASE FOR ALL THE HOT PERFORMANCES , THE MONKEES , THE PARTRIDGE FAMILY , THE COWSILLS , & TOMMY ROW ARE JUST TO NAME A FEW WE SAW AS KIDS GROWING UP IN EL SEGIUNDO , CA.

MY PARENTS HAD ALL HERB'S STUFF ON VINAL , & BOY , DO I WISH I HAD IT ALL NOW !!!

  • @17SPIKE17 Go check out a local Goodwill Store becase they have old records there cheap and people donate this vinyl all the time and some in perfect shape! Just need a record player!

  • This was from a 1967 TV special. Herb and the TJB are the largest selling instrumental artists in history. He also started the largest independently owned record company in history {A&M} and now gives freely to public television. Thanks Herb, and thanks for giving me a great appreciation of music when I bought all your lp's as a teen. It was a great choice of material and the Herb & theTJB does the best most emotional, sensual version of "I've Grown Accustomed To Her Face" that there is.

  • He's one of my favorites purchased in 1967 his Lp. The only disappointing thing about this one video was it was not live, but synch, Nic's beats on snare do not match and where is the marimba, still thank you for sharing a piece of wonderful history

  • Hey all, there's a great cover of this song on youtube. It's a by a band called The Competition. I have it in my favourites!! Check it out you'll really like it if you like this song.

  • I have this one on a very rare record album of his I purchased about 20 years ago ! (....with the Tijuana Brass)

One of my faves ! Great vintage clip !!!

  • he made this moody, cool yet driving music

  • I love Herb Alpert and The Tijuana Brass.

    Great Music..

  • Herb Alpert was just cool. He played a mean trumpet and married a hot wife (Lani Hall of Brasil '66). I cannot find a version of his Winds Of Barcelona song which sounds a lot like El Presidente, but the music in general brings back great child hood memories. What a talent.

  • There is a new post that has a great arrangement of Winds of Barcelona/El Presidente. Do a YouTube search for "Herb Alpert Dean Martin"... this clip has 2 tunes "Bittersweet Samba" and WOB/EP. Not sure who the second trumpeter is... it's not Tonni.

  • Art Bushagen was filling in on the Dean Martin show for Tonni. That video has got to be one of the earliest for the TJB - even Nick's mustache isn't grown out.

  • ..I am 34 and I became a fan of TJB just few weeks ago searching for Rise and Route 101.., really it's a classic this type of music...

  • Wow... I'm 30 now, my mom used to play LP's of him and the Tijuana Brass. I will definitively pass it on to my kids, I hope they get to have a good ear just like I did.

  • Growing up in Boston as a child, Herb is all that I listened to....I was lucky enough to have seen him 65/66 at the Boston Garden with my aunt and grandmother while being 7 yrs. old. I will never forget it. thank you for posting.

    Joe in NH.

  • In the mid-to-late 60s, Herb and the Brass were pretty much the brass/instrumental equivalent of the Beatles. Really. Seriously.

  • That is absolutely true....

  • @57highland They beat the Beatles in one area: Herb & the TJB are the ONLY group to have four albums in the Billboard Top 10 at the same time.

  • @paddyosee Wow. That's dominance. (What year was it?)

  • Herb Alpert and the TJB were a major part of my childhood memories, I'm 54 now. This was one of my favorite songs. Every song by the TJB represents a memory. I'd love to meet him in person--just once.

  • I'm also 54 and feel exactly the same way.

  • very good but prefer the version by Ramsey Lewis

  • Jake9932: Also agree that Ramsey Lewis' recording was super; came out one year before Alpert( 1966): but which is "better" is strictly a matter of taste. Like apples and oranges, they are both great in their own unique styles.

  • Excellent! thank you for posting1

  • Turtlenecks are comin' back I tell ya!Groovy,man...

  • i think ramsey lewis is so much better, our jazz band plays it amazingly.

  • motley59: It's also my fav Herb Alpert tune ever! I remember the summer of 67' so vividly, and this was a huge part of those memories. And what a video treasure this is: even though it's "lip-synched", it's the actual recording. (Still have the 45 sitting on that dusty old shelf!) Thanks thegoochman!!

  • I love this song, it's my favorite Herb Albert tune ever! I am so happy you posted this, thegoochman, a fine video!

  • I bought everyone of their LP's. These guys were big. Outsold The Beatles one year. Imagine that !! It's true. They had a great sound. The CD's I got, fantastic, re-engineered and everything. Lollypops and Roses, a classic. Slick, what a groove.

  • ...he should definitely go on a major tour of the U.S. He doesnt need the money, but it would be great seeing him live and to new generations. My was 1979-1982 when i got to know his music.

  • Great song. One of my favorites on his 8th album. Saw him once in 1975 in New Jersey. Unforgettable concert!

  • This is like a time warp, seeing this again. Love this song.

  • my parents had TJB albums when I was a kid,but I had no idea what a tight band they were till I saw this. Thanks for posting this awesome piece!!!!

  • im 24 so i havent any memories of this band, yet when lisening to this i fall into deep nostaga... why? lol anyway thanks thegoochman for the great vid.

  • It's really bizarre to see video of these guys

after listening to their tunes 5M times! Bittersweet especially to see Nick Ceroli at the drums (he passed away in 1985 I believe). I learned to play drums listening to that cat on my parent's TJB albums.

    !Viva el '60s!

  • Goochman, please keep posting, these are great! I don't remember this show from the 60's

  • EXCELLENT VIDEO! THANKS A LOT THEGOOCHMAN! i'm tryin' to get it by e-mule.

  • I remember hearing this on my parents' stereo in 1967--the Tijuana Brass's "Sounds Like" album was the first one they had bought for the stereo (along with the My Fair Lady soundtrack).

  • This is terrific! I have a B&W of the DVD of this special. Do you have a complete good-quality version of this? It sure looks like it from these clips.

  • Hello; I saw that special in Perú in 1969 summer. There was no DVDs then, I didn't know they sold the video ever. Moreover, we have the show sound recorded on a Gründig semi-professional recorder.

  • Great! classic...keep em coming.

    Much appreciated. JT

  • Thanks so much for posting this video. One of the greatest songs by one of the greatest musicians/groups of all time.....I really appreciate it.

You helped bring back allot of memories...

    warm regards,

    Joe in Merrimack, NH.

  • LOVE IT!!!!!

  • Superb!
