  • @killakatcha2 thanks for the advice man

  • I pitch. Is it ok if I long toss on game day?

  • @MrBoo83 I am by no means an authority on this program, but I do follow it. I long tossed before games during the summer and saw mixed results. If you can get you're long toss in and get some rest before taking to the bullpen and eventually the mound, you'll feel a bit of a bump in velocity. But in my case I also felt a little tired going into starts ( I was mostly a closer, so fatigue wasn't a huge issue with me.) It was a balancing act to say the least. Thats just my two cents.

  • Great Video! I am 16 years old and have just joined a full baseball elite training program at the Gonzalez Sports Academy here in Chula Vista. Hoping to see similiar methods of training and results! I throw around 83-87 but will find out for sure on Monday!

  • This is a great program... Mills has some things right, but not his view of long toss. Tom House has a much better philosophy backed by scientific study. This program makes the entire "linkage" healthy which aides in the entire biomechanical process. Don't forget balance, trunk, and posterior work too!

  • @ibanezmanvicente8a It shouldn't really be in pain as much as it should be stretched out a lot. If it hurts, decrease tension or go to just doing air movements with a baseball or your glove in hand.

  • This looks like L.A. Pierce haha

  • btw, to all you young bucks: dick mills is the antichrist! don't fall susceptible to his lies! lmao!

  • what you do at 2:04 ... is there something i did wrong? cuz i did it last year for a while, and i threw A LOT harder. but my arm was hurting as well... is this to be expected of was it just a fluke or what?

  • i feel like the righty throws weird...well not weird but different, the lefty throws heat though......he throws like 95 possibly hit 96

  • dick mills says long toss is a joke for pitching, what do you have to say about this? i think he is full of it...i personally know it works...

  • @hundoakdov from experience long toss works, dick mills is against it, but if you look at his MLB carriere he was shit, i guess he jsut didnt want to put in the effort, many blame him for his sons arm being damage, dont listen to that dumbass, LONG TOSS FTW!

  • @Timex105 viva la revulicion!!!! (in spanish) three cheers for long toss.... hip hip, hooray.......

  • well 60 65 is my age

  • jaeger im 14 5'4, i throw my fastabll pretty slow like 50MPH when everybody else is 60 or 65 maybe 70. i can throw Curve Knuckle n Fastball i have been playing baseball for maybe 6 or 7 years and wish i can throw alot faster

  • This program helped me out a lot, im 5ft4inches, i did this program for a month and i was clocked at 88mph in my pull down and im only getting stronger. I am a position player i don't pitch, but i am trying to walk on into a minor league program, any suggestions?

  • hi Jaeger im a16 year old left handed pitcher 5-11 and i throw sidearm i have thrown this way my entire career i have found imense sucness no arm injureis. should i do this programme throwing sidearm or raise my arm angle for long toss (i throw mid to high 70's occasionally touching with good movement)

  • @paledine1994 yeah do it i use to throw side arm and i did long toss it will give you more velocity but more importantly it will strenghten your arm more than anything

  • :O

  • jaegersports m.sn in profile

  • I've been doing Jaeger bands and Alan's throwing program for almost 2 years now. I'm a 6'3 left handed pitcher and started on the varsity team at my high school my freshman year. I'm currently a Sophmore and have topped out at 85 mph. These routines really work and have really shown improvement for me. I highly recommend the Jaeger sports baseball program if you take the game seriously.

  • Hello Alan, I am 14 years old and right now i can throw between 77-80 mph. I have 2 questions for you. First, where do you give your private lessons because i would like to take some? Second, How far do you think should be a 14 year old's maximum distance?

    Thank You

I would really appreciate a response

  • trust me guys if u wana build arm strength this is how u do it!! long toss this is what got my arm strength where it needs to be.. i will also add what helped me being a taller guy at 6'4 is alot of sprint work and cardio.. at least 10 hard sprints after i longtoss with jogging a mile will get the fast twitch muscles going to build velocity..

  • What everyone is missing here is that these two are high level athletes! Long toss can build arm strengh as demonstrated in this video! But what this guy should be promoting is all the work leading to long toss!!! That is what is crucial to make believers out of skeptics! Long toss can increase injury if not done properly... i am willing to bet both these guys can be good middle relievers!!!

  • this program sucks

  • can you join this program for just a fun activity?

  • This Works

  • This is amazing!!

  • This program is great! Ive used it check out my video's!

  • I love long toss!

  • What makes me laugh about this isn't that I think long toss is a bad thing. I think it's funny that there is a program and people call Jaeger a long toss expert. All you have to do is throw the ball as hard as you can and you will get better at throwing the ball harder. Distance depends a lot on angle. Just throw the ball as hard as you can. Long toss is fun but being able to throw 6 days a week is just as valuable. The ability to comeback daily will also strengthen your arm.

  • @incendia100 wrong. just throwing as hard as you can will hurt your arm.

  • @TheHHES ask Nolan Ryan, Justin Verlander, or Josh Beckett about that...

  • @incendia100 dude my dad is friends with someone who played for the detroit tigers, he was a pitcher, he was drafted to the tigers got hurt in spring training and couldnt play, he likes to coach me and im a pitcher, long toss is one of the only ways to make your arm stronger

  • there are prob like 5 people on this earth that think trying to throw 350 plus is good for a pitcher and 3 of them r in the vid. mabey outfielders should watch this vid. everyone that thinks this is a gd idea i think you should follow the careers of the 2 guys throwing. and if your in high school stop watching youtube vids on how to pitch! PLEASE! theres a local minor leaguer somewhere in ur town. find him. belive me if hes been to spring traing he can help u. throwing 350 = blown out shoulder!

  • thank you i threw my arm out 3 times this week so i really needed this

  • @jjtanner24 yea this isnt gnna help your arm id recomend ud stay off it if u through it out 3 times......

  • @jjtanner24 same i throw it out allll the time

  • is this available in spanish or wih spanish subtitles?

  • dont listen to @mr.throwin90's....he leaves these stupid ass comments on all baseball throwing and pitching videos....hes just mad cause he cant throw anywhere in the 90's...haha

  • whoever says this doesnt work has no idea what they are talking about.. I've been doing this program for the off season. Im now throwing the ball 350ft with some ease. As oppose to when i first started, throwing only about 200 with maximum effort. I dont know about you guys but thats a pretty good improvement by my book. My fastball jumped about 6 mph.. and my arm has never been sore since i started this program. Not even once..so i dont know. it worked for me. maybe you should at least try it.

  • Long toss is a waste of time. Spend the time doing something useful

  • Give me a break

  • this is bull crap. velocity doesn't cause the ball to travel further, it just causes the ball to travel faster. its backspin that causes the ball to travel further. so guys dont worry if your not throwing 300+ feet, it does not matter.

  • The whole 300 feet equals 90 mph thing is rediculous. im 26 and my playing days are over but not before i spent 5 years playing as a pro (2 1/2 in the minors, 1/2 year in big leagues, 2 in japan). i was a pitcher who threw 92-93 and topped out at 96(rarely but it happened). and i never once, never!!! threw a ball further than 275 feet. my whole point is if you are still playing dont get discouraged if you cant do what they are saying on this video. most of theses guys are clueless. - Phil

  • I was taught longtoss and always found it usefull. But I was taught that when you started to get out passed a certain point to make a one hop throw the way one would throwing from the outfield into a bag, in other words a ball that could be cut off from a relay guy. Either way long toss does build arm streangth, but if done incorrectly it could kill an arm, thats why so many coaches are against it, they just dont teach it right!!!

    bad longtoss=bad results

    good longtoss=good results

    that simple

  • Cneale31.... It has been proven that longtoss DOES NOT strengthen your arm. They have done controlled studies and the guys doing longtoss had no significant results to show over the guys that did not longtoss. Also a study of Pro pitchers throwing arm and non throwing arm showed the same amount of strength in both arms and shoulders. So please tell me (other then someone told you) what real proof do you have that longtoss works.

  • answer to Gmaddux3132 you probaly have more of a athletic arm fitting for the outfield

  • I can throw a baseball 400ft and I do not throw over 90mph whys that?

  • did u throw the ball down a hill?

  • There much be something REALLY wrong with your pitching mechanics. Maybe your windup is slow? Arm is slow?

  • maybe a regression from throwing everyday?

  • it might be your arm slot....

  • whats the right arm slot?

  • because even if you trow 400ft it does not mean you have enough arm and body speed to trow 90mph... ive seen guys trow 90+mph and cant even trow 300ft....

  • How do you develop a 90mph Fastball? and actually there is a formula that states if you throw a ball 300ft on a relative line (obviously it will be at an upward angle) but you should achieve 90mph off the mound. And I hit 92mph last week so I am alright with it now.

  • dude.. you posted that comment 2 weeks ago.... nobody can develop from 80's to 90's in 2 weeks.. its humanly impossible,. not even with steroids... so i do not believe it k... oh.. and i trow 88-87 and i can trow up to 315 ft so its not a accurate that with a 300ft trow you can hit 90mph

  • well when you change you motion and apply all force towards home plate apposed to having side to side inconsistencies you gain velocity... I threw 83-85 without throwing to a catcher for 2 years. I threw to a catcher for a month and I hit 88 to 92 last weekend at a tryout for my college. I know this because I asked what I hit. I also have been doing a training program for the last 2 years. after i came out of the regression of throwing everyday and now im throwing to a catcher I throwharder

  • Bands do not cause the body to make a physiological adaptation. They do not put enough stress on the body to get stronger. Alex takes is arm behind his should and will have labium problems and will have Tommy John the other one will have Tommy John as well

  • i got a question..more like a comment. is throwing hard that critical? cuz i dont throw quite hard but i can locate pretty good. is that good enough?

  • no its not good enough.. because if you trow a mid to low 80mph fast ball to a signed player. then there gonna hammer it to more than 400ft unless you don't want that to happen. develop 90+mph

  • guys sorry to tell ya, but u either have or u dont. if u throw 85 ur are above average.

  • don't spread your bitterness around bc your stupid bible-belting ass never made the varsity team. you obviously have no idea what your talking about.

  • im going to be like ever body else and say im 17 5 10 and i throw 84 mph get at me

  • oh yea and im 15 and im 5'6 and lilke 120

    lbs

  • this is a lie fest

  • Im 15 and i weigh 165 lbs and i throw a 78 mph fastball but i still have much more potential by the time im a senior in HS....

  • im 13 6"1 and ive hit low 80s its not impossible but again i play for some of the best teams in the country for travel.......

  • well wogdoggy, i'm 13, 5'7, and weigh 170, and im pitching 70-75 so it might be possible for him to throw 86-88 mph

  • nolan ryan threw a ton when he was young....billy wagner-though his mechanics are bad, proof is in his shoulder injuries-said long toss and frequent throwing help him build his velocity to 98mph when in HS his top was 78mph

  • that and steroids...come on guys

get real, the guys that throw 90 mph+ roid free is all genetics..

  • this is a great program im a 6 foot 5 inches an lefty and im throwing 90 mph now

  • 14 yr old throwin 80? unless your six 5 two thirty i doubt it

  • my friend is 13 is clocked low 80! his name his michael blasko

  • Lol when the guy on the left threw, I literally said "Gone" out loud... I watched the ball, and then I was right. ahah

  • liar

  • The accuracy at 300 ft is impressvie

  • he was throwing low 90s off of flat ground in a non game situation the mound alone will add another 2-3 mph

  • actually he is crow hopping which would prolly make him throw harder. the mound doesnt increase velo just adds downward plain

  • umm i got one question,,, at the begining it said in there senior year in highschool they were throwing in the upper 95's how come not that they are older they are topping low 90's i think it was bullshit no offence

  • dude look at this u say think they;re throwing on flatt ground and not in windupor anything so their we go

  • but now there in college,, in high school 95MHP in college then should be 97+, so even with out that extra from the mound,, they should scan higher on the radar just thinking.....

  • Great Video, hopefully it can help me with my arm. right now i throw 83 mph, lets see how i throw when im done with the program.

  • Great video.

I swear by long tossing and tube work; always have and always will. Distance you can throw the ball translates directly into mph on the mound and a great way to build arm strength if used properly. Preventative maintanance with tubing is exactly that, building up rotator cuff strength and all the tiny muscles in the shoulder to prevent injury. In my opinion, these should be a definite part of every serious pitcher's training routine.

  • another thing.....thats "controlled environment"....not real life

  • the "controlled environment" are actual pitchers pitching real baseballs. They just controll what the group does as far as long toss or no longtoss....stretching or no stretching.

  • I love my J-Bands!

  • I faced alex in texas, and i think his slyder was even better than his fastball. But i have seen what your program does personaly and thats what im gonna use durring the winter break,All my friends down here in the greater houston area is getting better from this

  • it better work

  • yea it better

  • You probably had to have Tommy-John BECAUSE of stuff like the J-bands and Longtoss. I have scientific proof that long-toss DOES NOT increase velocity. Also a study was recently done that states excesive stretching can cause injury rather then prevent it. But tell me why you think it helped you.

  • a guy at my school increased 8 mph over the summer doing nothing but bands

  • that is hear say, and he may have gotten better just by pitching more or growing. I have a friend who ate bananas every day before he pitched and he gained 9 mph over a year....same thing.

  • sorry dog, but longtoss, in conjunction with strength training, mechanics, and rest, will improve throwing and recovery....

in the end, its all in the mind

  • ok "dog" please post some hard evidence to what you are saying. If you can not then you must admit that you are simply listening to what someone else said and taking it for truth without checking it out for yourself. That is called belief based coaching. I don't believe anything that can not be proven by science. That is called evidence based coaching. I know these things sound good.... but ask yourself why pitching abilty is down and injuries are up compaired to 50 years ago. It makes no sense.

  • indeed, all i'm saying is that i've recovered fully from tommy and long toss definitely helped...

  • you only think it helped. How do you know you wouldn't have recoverd the same had you not done long-toss. Or maybe you damaged somthing during the long toss that will show up down the road. Real studies with real people and controlled environments says that its a sugar pill. One that can lead to major arm problems.

  • so i guess im not a "real person"

  • You are missing the point bro. Lets say you ate bananas during your rehab....how can you rule out that the bananas weren't what helped you recover faster ??? The only way to do this is science. If something works ....it should work under controlled conditions.... and the bottom line is that the studies prove that it does not help prevent injuries or increase velocity. You believe what you want though.

  • I'm curious, seriously, I'd like to know what types of work you would suggest, or anything you know of or some physicists or scientists know of that are proven to work?

cuz that would be cool to try some new stuff....i think its always important to mix things up

    and that includes long toss...

  • Specialkhit, long toss is one of the most effective ways of teaching pitchers how to finish out in front and really emphasize the follow through. I don't care what studies you've read, that is a fact.

  • how many times would you say it takes to get through to a pitcher then....1 time? 2?The problem is people don't use it like that. Once you have got your point across about how to finish out front then it really will do nothing for a pitcher but mess up his muscle memory. Do you think that swinging a heavier bat before you go to bat makes you faster at the plate? Nope but almost every major league player does it. Does not make it true. The smartst minds in the world thought it was flat at 1 time

  • Mess up their muscle memory? On the mound, pitchers want to release the ball as far out as they can. How will long toss mess up the muscle memory? It will only reinforce muscle memory.

  • In order to throw a ball that far you MUST release the ball a lot higher then you would if you were pitching. You also will be doing this from flat ground. It make look similar...but close is no where near close for muscle memory. Think about it

  • this is true....earth is hollow....im not joking

  • Ill tell you a great way to teach pitchers to finish without long-toss. Have them start in the finished position. Then work backwards from there . Then when they pitch they can get back to the position the were just in easier because they just felt it .Once they get it don't use the drill anymore. Pitch from a mound and get better from 60'6"

  • You Put Your Finger On A lot Of Debatable Things, Yet I think You Over ANALYZE Some Things, Just Play The Game.

  • Actually I am way more simplified then most. I believe that in order to get better at pitching....you need to pitch from a mound with game like intensity. That is like you said...playing the game. I forget the drills and the longtoss and the gimmics and the stretchy bands.

  • No Of coarse I know You More simplified that Others. And Yes To Get A Feel For The Game Its Better To Get in a Game Situation. Totally agree, but then You forget That its a Game, its suppose To Be Fun,, AS Well as training and doing things the proper way.

  • I don't think this program is to make you a better pitcher neccessarily. I think the intent is to prevent to all too common shoulder/rotator cuff injuries. By strengthening and conditioning your arm, you will be less suseptible to injury. All of the band exercises are what physio would have you do 'after' an injury. Why not use the same techniques to prevent injury?

  • this program is intended for arm strength and endurance. IT doesnt teach you what to do with man on 3rd n 2cnd with 1 out; it just teaches you how to increase velocity, arm strength, and endurance.

  • The sad part tarooq is that it is MIS information .... They have been doing this program for over 10 years....ask them if they have any scientific evidence that it works and watch them start naming big leaguers that they PAY to endorse their product instead of actual studies that they have done. They are not interested in finding out that the buisness that has made them a lot of money is obsolete and just flat out rubbish. Go to the site and contact them and ask them. I did.

  • this is true, but like he said, everybody's arm is different,,,,you usually initially have to have the talent,,,this stuff will enhance the your natural ability...but longtossing increases your arm's and body's thresh-hold.....

zito may have other things going on with his situation that have led to his lack in velocity, cuz long toss when done right is not gonna decrease your velocity

  • Increase your thresh-hold?? Trust me man, the only thing it will do for you is make you a better long-tosser. It will not increase your velocity and it can not make you better at pitching from a mound at 60'6". Any time spent doing this is wasted time you could have spent getting better at pitching. The j-bands make no sense either. Strength has little to no effect in pitching a 5 oz baseball..this is why some 11 year olds can throw 70mph. Timing, speed of movement, and God given ability are it.

  • hmm,,,lets see, as a tommy-john recoveree, i'm pretty sure long tossing and bands work...

  • was reading up on the two pitchers. alex seems to be doing good, but i have read that matt had been struggling trying to keep a job. sad to hear bout that.

  • good video man i wich i could pratice with ya fom were ya from

  • where can i have your training?

  • Very interesting Video

  • This is great stuff!

  • hey thanks for putting this on

  • you spelled "stretching" wrong.

    Great video though!

  • sir? Johnny Sirzen?
