@BBspike100 They spawn out of wealthy ports. The best place to find one is around the virgin islands as thier are lots of wealthy ports. Also try the later time periods. Spanish are the only nation that does not have them

I love this game, and my favourite ship was my trusted and mighty Frigate 'Endeavour'. I attempted for very long to acquire the Ship of the Line, but alas! Though I followed every tutorial there was in my effort to find this ship, it is seemingly incredibly elusive and very difficult to find at all. So please, tell me: How can I find it?

@NorwegianBastard First thing to know is that they only spawn out of wealthy ports and the Spanish dont have them. Also they may be time period dependent. Try one of the later time periods. The second to the last is good. Now you need to find a large concentration of ports. The vigin islands fits that bill and their are some wealthy ones up their. Now rack up you bounty or have a really high bounty with like the english or french. After that its all luck.

@hobowithashotgun48 Large Frigate and SOTL have the exact same speed stats so the SOTL is still better +50 more men, 8 more cannons and 10 more cargo. Its not better by much but it is better, speed is the same though for both

@Andres0869 No, but if you get a certain amount of gold for each pirate on your crew (1000~), you can sail forever without your crew staging a mutiny. I've been sailing for ten years now XD

Easiest way to do this is to take your starting ship straight out of port and scan the Spanish main east-west, taking out as many of the wanted pirates as you can (this should get you at least half of them). After you capture all of them, start the lost cities quest as quickly as you can for an easy 200k.

@mulder19x95 Yea man you can, should be able to find it at most any Gamestop (EB Games) Or walmart or whatever shop sells games near you XD, it usually goes for 19.99, if its used maybe 14.99 or somewhere close to that. But I advise you to get the PC version, its really the best, although there isnt much difference in the versions, just avoid the xbox version :s

I don't know, Brigs and Frigates just aren't maneuverable enough for me. Royal Sloop is the way to go, with an extra Pinnace or Mail Runner in the fleet as overflow cargo.

If I do want a large ship though, when I'm going to take on a town, the Frigate family is the best because of speed vs capacity.

@ratherconfused Brigs have the same turning Radius as Sloops(Tight),but arnt as fast. I like Brig of war cuz you can hold more loot more crew more cannons then a sloop. My fleet usually consists of mostly brigs of war maybe a royal sloop and a Frigate of some type for storage

@ProBlinddark I never said it was the Best only the Rarest. As far as Warships go though it out performs all others.Morgans LF: 250crew 40 guns 90 cargo and Fast. SOTL 300 crew 48guns 100cargo and Fast. They are pretty similar but the SOTL inches ahead. As for Spanish Galleons a SOTL is much better then those. Personally I find Royal Sloops and Brigs of War to be the best

SotL is hard to find, and not worth it IMO. You waste way too much time pissing off the English to get one to show up, and your English promos should be maxed out before you do it, so you're probably late in your career (on higher difficulties) by the time you're ready for the attempt. I usually just make a beeline for Henry Morgan's ship right from the start (frigate w/ full upgrades, 2nd best ship in the game) which I can usually find in 6 months or so, and coast the rest of the game in it.

Strange... 6th rate frigates, yes, do have 32 cannons. However, 5th rate frigates (large frigates) have 48, whereas the 4th rate ship-of-the-line (as seen in this game) has around 56. They totally downgraded the ship classes in this. And besides, I'm quite sure SOTLs of up to 80 guns existed during 1680 yet they give us that SOTL imposter 5th rate. So I guess the "large frigate" didn't exist at all. Only 6th and 5th rates. Which technically ARE the frigates and large frigates. But SMP kinda
