The Lincoln weighs about 4400 lbs, no where near 5000. It doesn't have a 3.7TT either. And at such a high elevation, a forced inducted engine has a major advantage. It was pretty biased.
haha this test is pretty fair. naturally aspirated engines have a hard time breathing at high altitudes. turbo/super charged engines easily dominate comparably powered naturally aspirated counterparts.
Now, if they did this test on some twisty / mountain / canyon roads at or closer to sea level, the Lincoln would've probably been 5th or maybe 4th.
Actually in great Top Gear fashion it takes a North American vehicle and pits it against the European competetion in a purposely skewed test. It's great, the only thing missing is Jeremy Clarkson sarcasm.
You could to a 6 vs 6 test instead and put that crappy plastic lincoln against a GTR. The results is only because of the forced air in the lincoln! There is a reason why the new supercharged audi A6 is in this "test"...
Really, this can be a long list, resale, short life cycle, reliability, random name changes, and front wheel drive flagship car? This list can go on and on ..
hahaha. Of course the advantage here goes to lincoln. Why? one word: elevation. Everybody knows that a turbocharged engine does not "loose its breath" at high altitude because it is constantly forcing air inside the cylinders. So what do they do? they don´t do the test at 5000 feet or 10000 feet. They take it to 12000 feet. I would love to see the same test at sea level.
i can already see the commercial now, Lincoln beats BMW, Merc and Jag... never mind the fact that the Ford car is their top of the line fast sedan, while the others are just the normal versions, put an AMG or an M5 or XJR in their and see what's what!
LOL... obviously a normal aspirated engine in a high altitude condition is going to loose some power. Ford is pretty smart to have this show down up in the mountains. With a turbo you don't loose compression in high altitudes like you do with a none turbo engine.
If you watch all of the vs. videos of this series, you will notice that the helicopter pilot says the exact same thing when the MKS crosses the finish line ("Wow! He was really moving!"). Talk about bias, not to mention scripted.
They ran each car three times he said in one of the videos. Once to get use to the car and then then next two times to try and get the best time. So in each video when you seen the MKS run it was the same run being replayed
this test has one MAJOR flaw, its being done at 14,000ft. ask anyone with knowledge of engine workings, engines with turbos work MUCH better at higher elevations than do naturally aspirated engines. the weight of the cars are all very near each other, the only car with a chance is the maserati because it has the most powerful V8 while the others have similar engine ratings as the Lincoln
exactly. That's why so many aircraft have turbos or supers. I really want to see the American succeed though, but you have to take it with a grain of salt.
small engines matching a bigger engine? that bullocks! -_- mitsu's and subi's been doing it for years. what killed the american car company was fat exec's and the american trend of making things like fashion and teachnolodgy that can easily be outdated. thus creating a need for newer things ie. cars that break often and model years.
its not too biased actually, that Lincoln is almost 5000 lbs and its has to power all 4 wheels, with an economy built 3.7L TT V6.

Jaguar is Indian? No, it's British. I don't think India has much to offer on the international auto market.

Jaguar is owned by an Indian auto maker named Tata. Jaguar the brand is British.
