cleveland drivers i thought were bad until i just saw how good they are. Cincinnati has the bad of the bad drivers they are also very fast doing 80 in a construction zone.,
Amazing that Linndale police wasn't hiding under the bridge in that small stretch of 71 that goes through that village in your video. Must have been a shift change cause there's always a Linndale police car hiding under there waiting for its prey to pounce..
@jwjones967 LOL!!! That was the first thing that came to mind when I was watching this video. On 71 between 90 and 480.... the Linndale Border Patrol.
this is a great video. At 3:04, isn't exit 238 the airport (237) and 239 I-71 South to I-480 West? or are they both the same?
I am a roadgeek, but I don't have much time to travel, so this is a nice way to "visit" other cities virtually. Wish I had this when I was younger and could travel.
the sharp curve is called dead man's curve which causes most of cleveland's accidents especially during winter storms. I-90 could have taken you to toledo as well plus it will save you money on the turnpike to toledo as well.
Hey Jim, with me and my obsession with planes, I'm surprised that when you went onto 480, and passed through Hopkins, that there were no planes taking of or landing.
Exit 9 - Grayton Road. That's where I grew up. In fact, exit 242 - W. 130th Street to exit 9 off 480 is the exact route we take when we take our daughter to see my parents.
71 to the fulton rd exit is the way i go when im heading west on 90 .make a rught on denison .and im about a 1/2 mile down on west 54th..its good to see a video of my hometown on you tube...good job bro.
I think they tore down the HoJo's on South Marginal. I caught a glimse of it just as you were getting on the highway, but didn't see it last time I was thru there.
why does cleveland have a "dead mans curve" Cleveland is flat yet it has a hairpin turn in the middle of an intercontenental corridor 90. If The road is do dangerous that ignorant clevelanders call it deans mans curve than fix it and make it safe dumb asses.......
@t445577o -Makes me wonder "What were they thinking?" when it was built that way back in the 1960's. I'll bet they expect cross-country traffic on I-90 to take I-271 & I-480 around the city.
@Freewayjim - Actually, yes... HC-tagged trucks are supposed to take the southern outerbelt, and overweight are routed (from the direction you drove) 90W-77S-490W-90W. The innerbelt bridge, as you noted, is over 50 years old, and needs to be replaced. Trouble is, you can't just take half of the existing bridge out and hope the other half can hold rush hour without running the risk of another I-35/Minneapolis type failure. That, and the whole county gov't is crooked and has been indicted.
@t445577o Well genius, allow me to explain it for you. If you were to stay to the right as you come to Dead Man's Curve, you would end up on the Shoreway, aka route 2 West. After 3 or 4 miles, the freeway ends and becomes a main road (Clifton Blvd.) with lots of homes and apartments. For obvious reasons, no hazardous chemicals can be hauled through residential areas. Now, most of downtown Cleveland was standing before the highway system was developed. There wasn't much that could be torn down
@t445577o Learn some grammar and spelling. What the hell does "If The road is do dangerous" mean? deans mans curve??? Did you mean "Dead Man's Curve"?
@t445577o it may be flat, but in that particular area there is an airport behind the interchange. im sure the airport was there before the interstate system, and they couldnt build a good freeway interchange there. If they went a little east, they would have had the lake right there. if they went west, they would also have the lake. so there was no possible way to put a decent interchange in that area.
@t445577o it's called dead mans curve NOT DEANS MANS curve you idiot. who u callin a dumb as you dumb ass. it's a sharp turn and people have died (when a semi is on either side of you it is quite frightening)

@Freewayjim I enjoyed this video, but not knowing if you live/ed in Cleveland or not, could you post a little asterisk or something, saying that some of those exits, like W.130th and W. 150th, are also accessible via I-90?
@Greg7042 Thanks, I am not from Cleveland, that was simply a drive through. Sorry but I'm not going to redo the whole video just to add the suggestions you made.

This interstate system looks very confusing.. And Cleveland sucks from what I hear so Its not like I have to worry about driving there anytime soon.. BTW how are thos Cavaliers doing.. LMAO..FAIL
No, Cleveland isn't the greatest city, but trust me, there are far worse ones (i.e. Detroit, D.C., Louisville, Houston... of course, this is all MY opinion, not fact). I will agree with you though that the interstates get confusing on the shoreway. Like 2 or 3 different routes come together on "90". Actually, I think its just SR2 and I-90.
Cleveland sucks? Far from it. Some of the nicest suburbs in the nation, historic architecture, culturally influenced from many different ethnicity, etc. You are pretty much basing your opinions from hearse, not reality. More than likely, we don't like you either ;)
I think Cleveland gets an unfair rap, it's not a bad city overall. yeah there are some ugly industrial sections near the downtown area but I thought business sections of downtown were nice as is the waterfront and the suburbs seem nice as well.
Cleveland, Ohio. A very friendly place for gun lovers. You can buy as many guns in the same day, if you pass the Background Check off course. We have CCW & there are several shooting ranges around the area.
You must visit Little Italy here. Great Cannolis at Corbo's Bakery & the best dam Pizza in Cleveland at Mama Santa's Restaurant located in Little Italy.
You can still find a job here in Cleveland, but I don't know for how long, with these gov spending & trashing the economy. Great vid
some of those streches of road look like LA's roads lol. they look sooo white! wonder if its the weather or the sunlight that does that to the pavement. just wondering
I've always liked Cleveland. Unfortunately they took an even bigger hit, regarding population loss, than Baltimore did. When I was a kid, Cleveland was the 8th largest city in the nation. Baltimore was 6th.
Cleveland always has a special place in my heart (I'm from Akron). They cleaned up nicely downtown, with all the new condos. Unfortunately they took a big hit with the foreclosures. How big was Baltimore at it's height?
Baltimore peaked in population (as did most cities in the northeast and upper midwest) in the 50's. We had a population of 949,708, which, at the time, made us the 6th largest city in the country, and the largest city with under 1 million. We stayed in those positions in 1960 (about 939,000 +), but started falling in 70's (maybe 850,000 +), 80's (750,000 +), and then really dropping in 90's (640,000 +). We actually gained a few thousand in the 00's. We are currently about 645,000.
Yes. And all Cleveland has to do to get to 1.5 million people is force annexation of the suburbs by threatening to cut off their water supply. i.e. Columbus Ohio. Columbus and Cuyahoga County are Cleveland's biggest enemies.

I think Cleveland gets an unfair rap, it's not a bad city overall. yeah there are some ugly industrial sections near the downtown area but I thought business sections of downtown were nice as is the waterfront and the suburbs seem nice as well.

@Freewayjim Fuck suburbs. Id rather see the grimy indusrtial shit. Thats the REAL city.

@kingnat2 - Ugly, grimy industrial areas can be interesting, I agree.

Great vid

Nice video, I haven't seen these roads in over 10 years since when I was a little kid. I used to live near Pearl Rd. and the Westside Market.
