Great radio, i just fixed up mine after 3years sitting on the bench, But only a problem i dont sorted out and trying the figure out is why mine is now laying a AM carrier on SSB...lol I have a video posted about my TRC-449 if your interested.
I picked up one of thease radios at a local ham fest for $30 bucks, i plugged it up an played with the radio for about 5 mins an knew its a nice fine radio.Radio shack makes nice ssb radios an even the am rigs are nice. cheers.

The Midland and the Royce radios were built back in 1977 and I just got them out of their original boxes. All my collection is either new old stock or mint and I mean mint condition.
Thank you Victor. I still setting up the shack and the antennas, right now I only have one vertical antenna for all the radios. It's getting cold here in Canada very fast I have to hurry up before the Winter shows up...

I have a Teaberry Stalker 1 40 channel thats is similar to the 449. The Stalker actually has a speech compressor built in.

Occasionally they can be found on Ebay, the problem is to find them in good working condition and in good shape.
