Is the maple syrup like pancake syrup? Or is it like the vanilla/caramel ones I find in the coffee aisle? I don't think I've ever seen maple! Thanks! :)
@bazingo99 Yes, this is sugar free maple syrup like pancake syrup. Check out my low carb haul video or waffle recipe that I have posted for a couple of sample brands of extremely low carb sugar free syrup. DaVinci's, Vermont, or Walden Farms are all good brands.
@MegaSweetChristine I buy mine from the local grocery store by the other syrup aisle, but you do have to be careful about which ones you purchase. There are some SF syrups that are extremely high in sugar alcohols, often the nasty ones. Netrition online also sells them for a reasonably good deal too. Check out my recent low carb haul video for the one I purchased recently.
@PostGlacialRebound The safety factor of Splenda in the amounts that I use has been proven multiple times. As I have said in the past, if you have negative side effects as a few people do, stop using it. After 7 years of using it and former Canadian friends with 20 years of using it, it has been fine for me. As for Nutrasweet, that's something completely different, and not sure how that relates. Some mushrooms kill you, and some are reportedly delicious.
@BrittneyJ08 It's 20g net carbs (total minus fiber) per day, but it's not just eat below a certain carb count per day. I would suggest you read the book or at very minimum watch the "Can I eat this on Induction?" video and the two documents I included in the video description.
@BrittneyJ08 Just make a nut crust with crushed mixed nuts. You could always grind your own almond flour with a coffee grinder. I made a video to show you how to grind them.
@bigwhey Excess protein can affect your blood sugar as the protein can convert to glucose. People may be sensitive to the milk proteins, and that is other primary reason to postpone consumption. As for sugar alcohols, I am one that cautions against sugar alcohols as well. Many like mannitol and maltitol can affect your blood sugar as well. I would stay away from both of them during Induction.
@bowulf So if I just added a lot more extra chicken breasts instead of taking whey protein then it turn that protein into glucose if I was over the amount? Any idea how much protein is ok for a 350lb 5'11"guy?
@bigwhey I am going to have to make a few assumptions about lean body mass, and assume roughly 90kg about lean body mass for you. This is completely a guess, so forgive me. Depending on your activity or workout level, you could easily have between 72 to 144g of protein per day. More than that (say 175g or , you could be liable to start converting the excess to glucose.
@bigwhey Also remember Induction only has to be the first 14 days of the diet, and if whey protein is important for you to re-add, migrate onto OWL and add it back in. You'll still lose the weight.
@nsangel2 I am generally able to find 1 or 2 in most grocery stores with the other maple syrups. If all else fails, you can always purchase from Netrition online.
@aliciamichael I was never much of the Dutch letter fan at Jaarsma, but there were plenty of things there pre-Atkins that I loved -- sweet rolls probably being my favorite. Now when we go for Tulip Festival or simply to see my Brother-in-Law, I make sure I picked up some of their smoked sausage and beef sticks. Yum!
Hi Kent hope this isnt a dumb question, what does E-IF mean? I know IF means induction friendly. Is this recipe induction friendly? I dont remember being able to have pecans and almond flour and flaxmeal on induction. A little confused, please clarify.
@amia1191 That's actually the topic of the bottom line of the video description, which you might have to click show more to see, "(E-IF) = Extended Induction Friendly (if you drop the whey protein powder)"
I decided to denote it being one vs. the other as one is allowed 1-2 oz of nuts after the first 14 days of the diet, which is the only difference between Induction and Extended Induction. I hope this helps.
@SmokeyGoodness I am not sure the almonds would. Pecans get sweeter as you cook them than most nuts. Macadamia nuts would work well, and there are many recipes for white chocolate or caramel toppings with them on top of cheese cake. I think almonds would just get more crunchy unless of course you were talking about like an almond paste...
That might sound really good to my Dutch letter loving relatives...
@cfoster3406 No, I show the total carbs, and then one would subtract the fiber grams from that similarly to commercial food nutrition label. I am not sure how to make it clearer given the limited the space.
This looks really good, I just made the cheese cake with blueberrys it is excellent. Could have ate the whole pie, How much should you have per day? I cut it up and put it in the freezer and ate 1 small sliver. When you are done, could you please show us what a serviing would look like and how much per day. thanks
@mrsgroom This recipe is very similar to that one. With the butter in the cheesecake it holds together and can stand up to the pecan pie toppings well. That is a good idea about freezing it. For me with my pie pan, it was easy to get the 1/12 serving simply by cutting into quarters, and then splitting the quarters in thirds like a pizza.
The limiters would the cheese (1 oz per slice), the nuts (although marginal), and sweetener. I would limit to no more than 2 slices/day due to the sweetener.
I am SO glad not to be in induction any more! And you could cut carbs by omitting the crust, which is even greater. You have inspired me! However, I think chocolate, rather than pecans ... you know, sometimes I think I know your kitchen better than my own!
@thepamperroom I am glad I could be the inspiration to move on. I have often thought about using the chocolate bark recipe on top of a baked cheesecake to provide that crunchy chocolate topping to a cheesecake. If this helps your experimenting, let me know how it turns out. Thanks for watching!
Thanks Kent, thanks for another great vid. I have to ask....what do you know about xylotol on Atkins? From the reseach I see, there is mixed opinions about it. To me, it is the best thing closest to the taste of sugar. I use it in my morning coffee with heavy cream. Yes, I know, I should eliminate my coffee intake as the caffiene may be the reason staying at only loosing 10 lb. in 2 months. What do you think. You seem to have knowledge on this. Thanks again!
@gorealestate Xylitol should be OK. I am not a fan of most sugar alcohols, but the research I have seen puts it at the low end of the convertibility to carbs. It is roughly only 30% convertible as opposed to 60-70% for mannitol. Erythritol is near 0%, so it's not as bad maltitol or mannitol but not as good erythritol from a low carb perspective.
The real problem I have and the reason I don't use it is due to owning dogs. I can't guarantee they won't get any, and it is deadly to them.
@steve78412 I honestly use a generic one I bought off Ebay over 2 years ago currently. I can't really recommend going that route due to the possibility of illegitimate sellers, but for the most parts, I think you would be fine. They are much cheaper than say Netrition with a name brand one, but for with Netrition and a name brand, you get legitimacy and safety. If I had to advocate for one, EZ-Sweetz has been around as long as I can remember, so that leads me to think they are good.
you could start an atkin's diet restaurant in your town:)
