I like the ramblin' of Ramblin' Jack more than most, but still, when he talks about "hard travelin'", I'm wondering just how many meals he's actually missed in his lifetime.
Anybody have any clue?
Then again, maybe he's not the kind of rambler that would dare bring up such a subject.

Isn't this guy a Jew from downtown New York City? If so, why the get up? Last time I was in New York I didn't see any ''cowboys'' at the United Nations and the garden to watch the Rangers.
@JohnnyHands Truth be told, the original ''cowboys'' were Mexicans and African Americans. They did the bull work for the land owners who were the English Americans.
Jack was inspired by Dylan? More likely the other way round. I saw Jack once, he was great. I hope he is well. Don't sell those guitats Jack, I did it once and hated myself. Here...Write this song for me..."I'm feelin' so low I gotta get high to get the blues".
Remeber what Woody said: "Don't try to be too fancy, just sing the damn words".
Love ya always, kiss the daughter. say Amen. Goodnight.
Sorry, Bob Dylan was a self centred aggrandising opportunist. He snubbed this gentleman who supposedly inspired him and obviously sold his soul for his overrated existence - This guys the gold - DB's the fool's kind.
C.F.Martin would freak out if he heard how the sound pros have managed to pervert is instrument to sound like a gazzou! Nothing to do with R.J. Elliot's performance, he was probably told that micking is guitar was to much for a sound technician and that it would be smoother for everybody if they could shove a jack into the Nazareth made instrument.
Well.... Since Jack had the pickup installed in his guitar (the one with the cowbow-painted pickguard on it, as Guy Clark said), I'll assume he's pretty happy with the way it sounds. It's not like that Nazereth-made instruments are the grails they once were. As Tony Rice said, "People are playing guitars other than Martins now because Martin ain't made a decent guitar since 1955! They just haven't. That's reality" If CF should freak out about anything, it's those formica guitars they sell!
I grew up listening to this... literally. He would show up on our doorstep and him and my dad would have impromptu concerts in our living room... some of my best memories :)
picked jack and his dog up at akron canton airport for the kent folk fest 40 years ago in a 55 dodge pick up shared a bottle and a joint what a great guy national treasure
@reywilliamr One of his dogs ate my barbie :( Him and my dad were friends, and I remember he would just show up on our doorstep sometimes.... But a great guy :)
Dylan "borrowed" many of his early pieces of music- from Lomax collections, from Happy Traum, from jack..Phil Oaks, etc...When interviewed about these allegations in the 1970s long after he had left these people behind in the dust, Dylan would just snicker....
it's called being inspired by someone, and I believe bob was just like everybody else, listening to records, digging someone's picking pattern or voice, trying to sound like him or her. eventually, he'd find his very own unique sound, but naturally he had his idols, too!
Begain listing to Jack in 59 or 60. He is playing in Sept at the Herman Miller Library in Big Sur. Drove past this week. Wish I could be there in Sept. Jack is a treasure. He gave me good advice some years back. Told me not to fret. Ha! Keep it up Jack.
great, I ve just read the bob dylan chronicles and there bob describes how struck he was when he first heard jack elliot in the 50s, because he thought he could never reach that level, and later jack sang songs of bob - guess you never know what life still has in store for you
It's good when Dylan does it, but you can really hear emotion when Jack sings it and you can tell he's feeling what he's singing and he makes you feel it too.

@wovokanarchy Because he loves country JUST THAT MUCH. :D

@wovokanarchy, he was a full-time cowboy dreamer from a young age, and he followed his dreams.
And if you think about it, where did the original cowboys come from anyway - all of them?
They came from the East.

wovokanarchy 9 months ago
@wovokanarchy thanks for that info. Maybe that's why guitars (from Spain) and banjos (Africa) are part of the cowboy culture - and I'm guessing.
JohnnyHands 9 months ago
@JohnnyHands Actually there exists a lot of books on creation of the myth culture known as the ''cowboy" in western America.

very like guy clark, picking style and vocals.

Went for a coffee once after a show with Jack Elliott.
Sure told some good stories.
Still has a sparkle in his eyes.
Nice guy with a great attitude.
Said he went to townes house one night, townes spotted him and gave him a big warm smile. Jack said "you gon't go to townes house with ouy an invite!"
Hope all is well......

I always thought Jack Elliott was primarily a flat-picker, but it is nice to see him fingerpicking with ease.
