  • This man has more soul in his pinky than most have in their whole body. Bobby Darin was the whole package, performer, entertainer and man, that voice. What a guy.

  • Check out youtube/lulu.mov

  • Bobby Darin has a great smile and voice (: he's amazing in more ways than one.

  • wow, he does GREAT country blues rock, i am amazed! this is like my new favorite!!!

  • @olivialoveable

    and soul !

  • Darin ultimately had a liberal political stance that wasn't popular with influential people & a genetic condition that held him back. He dropped out for years because of illness & cynicsm about the music industry/society in general. If he'd been fitter & sold his soul to the devil, he'd be a name alongside Presley & Sinatra

  • @anthonythirteen

He told sinatra Í'll be greater than you one day.' and he did become....From then on he and sinatra werent on good terms.,..thats what i read anyway...dont know how far its true.

  • I just read his bio....he died from blood poisoning! He didn't take the required meds before having some dental work done.....he went on to have heart surgery only to die in recovery a few hours after the surgery., That's just SAD! :o(

  • Nice Martin D-28s !!

  • made my day!!! thanks downloadmusic .im

  • It simply is a great rendition of Hank's song. RIP Bobby, died way to young.

  • @footj8 Couldn't agree more. He lost the hook altogether and turned it into any other 3 chord song. All those folks who are raving should go give Hank a listen and see how the song was written.

  • @footj8 Bull crap

  • WOW!

  • The total "performer". No one can beat Bobby Darin. Thanks for posting!!

  • Lawd a mercy Mr.Darin was something else absolutly great!!!

  • I have watched this a thousand times and it gets me everytime, like i just saw it the 1st time ever! The One and Only "Bobby Darin" :))

  • Simply a great rendetion of that great song from Hank. You hear it, and that great soul comes out.

  • no one has come close to this version

  • @jimaluko But still Hank trumps all!

  • Hank would have like Bobby's version of this song. He knocked it out of the park.

  • I love this song because I love hearing him singing folk songs. i loveall of his songs. I love his honest every man style. i love his voice. I love his courage to keep on singing in spite of his need to rest in between songsbecause of his heart. Only his closest friendsknew of his fightfor air. They tried to tell him to stop. He wouldn't listen. His audiences did not know. I did not know until he collapsed at a taping about two months before he died. I was devastated and heartbroken.

  • descubrir a bobby fue grande para mi.

RIP man, me encanta, lo admiro, ojala hibiera vivido mas.

    g

  • Bobby Darin received the GRAMMY LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD TONIGHT! His son Dodd Darin gave a beautiful speech on his behalf. Bobby was a versatile, multitalented genius!

  • I heard he had to shake his arm alot to get the circulation going. (This was before he died.)

  • GRAMMY ALERT! Bobby finally gets the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award Jan 30, 2010!

  • He really gets that train sound goin' on at 1:11. He's still the man.

  • Yes. He gets.

    Spellbinding.

  • OMG I love to watch the man sing this song. He was not only a great singer and dancer, but a sexy man. Love him forever.

  • Just to add, Frank Sinatra, could not sing this song.

  • He sang every type of popular song ever written, and danced great as well. Had a sad personal life, but he once said, that he wanted to be greater than Sinatra, maybe not in voice, but, yes, in shear entertainment.

  • R.I.P

  • This guy was good. What a talent. Can;t think of anyone today with the versatility and range of this guy.

  • I was listening to it with that in mind - it reminds me in a way of travis tritt (who i think is a great singer as well)

    nice comment, mindwa!

  • Say what???

  • only just found these on You Tube about Bobby Darin.....can't believe how good he was and why he isn't considered the greatest....he outdoes Sinatra,Elvis,Cash,Fitzgerlad,Armstrong...surely the best America has given amongst all those greats?Shall look for more Bobby darin from now on....genius

  • I agree to all of them besides Elvis. Good singer though, and pretty underrated. This song shows some good vocals.

  • @kendoscot dont get carried away with your stupidity fool.

bobby was good but certainly not the best.

  • @JadeTomZ - it's not stupid to suggest that Darin was better than Sinatra and Presley. I've yet to hear a bad Darin record - I've heard some great Sinatra and Presley ones - but I've heard some bad ones also. Darin could move on stage like nobody else - Sinatra and Presley didn't have the charisma of Darin onstage - especially in their later years. Ella and Louis was a different era so I'll not comment on that - Cash was great - but Bobby Darin was the greatest singer and performer ever lived.

  • @NeilThompson30 Presley & Sinatra developed excellent stage performances, they were dsitinctive singers & made their mark as heart throbs as well. Darin, was an excellent songwriter & musician as well as being a great singer & also 'pop idol'. Darin became his own man: he didn't have the help from the mob, nor a greedy manager determined to grind every last cent out of his 'product'.

  • @anthonythirteen

I think he was too smart to let any manager steal his money. !

  • what a talent, all rounder

    only the good die young

  • #1 all round entertainer they don't make them like that anymore.

  • There is a version of this tune on a Little Feat album that is very close to Bobbys performance on this video. Its interesting the way his band fell in behind him and created that layedback rythym. A great ad lib from a great artist. Little Feats version is awsome as well.

  • I love bobby darin, one of the best performers ever! what a showman! I'm a singer aswell, and if I only have 50% of his performance I would be glad! I'm 23 years old but I love his music! died to young!

  • Esveldt - Let me tell you, I grew up to him

and your right, he was great!

  • that is surely an interesting verison of the Hank version not bad thoguh

  • Fantastic performer, he left us way too soon. A terrific performer

  • 2.44, bobby had it all.

  • Hank Williams saw the world as it should be seen...warts an' all.

  • Nice, he took Hanks song and made it his own and did very well with it.

  • Wow, what an awesome version this is. And what a treat to find this. Thank you for posting this gem. --Jan

  • Such a sexy little man and such a beautiful voice. Loved him.

  • Bobby Darin was always my 'guilty pleasure'. When he was considered un-cool I was listening to the voice and the talent. As other's have said, RIP Bobby.

  • ¡wath voice man!. wonderful song.!you sing with de heart.!you are one the best really!

  • This performance was about 8 months before he died. He was having severe circulation problems due to the weakness of his heart/heart problems. Notice how before the song starts, he shakes out his right hand to get the blood circulation going. What a brilliant performance of this song, thanks for posting it.

  • Totally awesome. I loved this video. Thanks for posting it.

  • love bobby darin, respect

  • Mr Bobb-RIP;p!

  • Bobby, my generation has missed you for 35 years!

  • Starting 5th December 2008, BBC Radio 2 is broadcasting a 4-part documentary series called BOBBY DARIN: A MAN IN A HURRY. You can listen to it online anytime from anywhere in the world by logging on to the BBC RADIO 2 website.

  • What a voice! RIP Bobby!

  • Bobby Darin was raw talent at its finest. This is a true example of his legacy to us.

  • You know, no one has left me with a better memory of the quintessential performer but Bobby Darin. I'm so sad he was taken from us way to young, but I'm glad I got to grow up listening to him. And thank you for posting.

  • Many thanks for this performance!!

  • Brilliantly sung as always. The ending is sublimely done.

  • bobby darin was a great performer

  • This is so hot. That's the song that hooked me on Hank way back when; I loved it as a little kid and I still do. It amazes me that while so many people cover Hank to death, very few people do this song. Bobby changed the feel completely and totally nailed the vocal, including the lonesome train whistle. What a performer. Thanks for this.

  • I'm a big Hank Williams fan but always keep coming back to this by some urban jewboy called Bobby Darin ! .....Great stuff !

  • Agree it's great stuff, but Darin was an Italian Episcopalean, according to his bio.

  • This is awesome. I hope they release more dvds on Bobby. He should be a much bigger legend, but the journalists & critics had a bad attitude. They went out of their way to take his movies apart, and they trashed him when he went "folkie" in the late 60s. Also, there just is not a lot of mention of him in a lot of publications and books. I've done the research on this and it breaks my heart how much he is treated as a afterthought. He deserves his long overdue renaissance!

  • .....your 100%+ right on this...he has been put out of the "official" music history. Great talent, and the Kevin Spacey film was pretty good ( but hated by the "critics").

  • Hey everybody,

I'm searching for this show on a DVD - can I get that stuff somewhere in Europe? I even don't know the name of that gig - 1973, that's the only thing I know, pretty poor, ha? ;o)

I hope someone can give me the right hint! Thank you so much!

  • I believe you can purchase it on Amazon and I believe it may be called Mack is back...check it out....

  • it's on Mack is back.

  • please could any one tell me what's the name of the country whistle?

  • its lonesome whisle blow by hank williams sr.

  • Lord to think that he was dead by the end of this year 1973..makes ya wonder..no doubt he chose slower songs & such as his health was failing. Mack the Knife though will always be his signature song and the #1 song of the 20th century. RIP Bobby.

  • Yeah, but watch the finale of his TV show done right at this time and he does it all - wild and energetic.

  • Sad song.. but Bobby Darin just makes me feel good.

  • yeah me too

  • Bobby should have done more Country. But, in my opinion which doesn't mount to anything, it was his quest for the all white clean look that held him back. Would he have been more interesting if he went wild like Willie Nelson? Bobby was more talented in composing music, though this is not his song, then Willie, but Willie never gave up. And, ended up passing us all.

  • I'm glad he was clean looking. Willie's great, but long hair doesn't look good on men. Bobby looked like a man.

  • Comment removed

  • Yes he did. He was always on time...ALWAYS and his shirt had no wrinkles...maybe once at Woodstock? Very few people know that Bobby was there and did a song with Janis Joplin.

  • No way!

    Really?

  • I just did some research on who actually wrote this song, Bobby is right Hank Williams wrote this song and Jimmy Davis supplied the title. I don't really care who wrote the song I just love the song and the way Bobby sings it!!! great song great post thanks.

  • My angel.

  • Thats awesome! When I read the title of the video my first thought... "The Hank Williams song?"... it sure is... Darin was one of the true entertainers... they don't make them like that anymore!

  • Amazing! What a talent!

  • he is so funny

  • Didn't know Mack could get funky country out. Wow, could anybody else done it better. I doubt it, Bobby was the greatest!

  • exactly, nobody could have done it better

  • @jsnds no kidding! This was great!

  • @jsnds agreed!

  • ColCharley

a slight mistake identifying this as a Hank Williams song, im sorry to say your the one mistaken its a hank williams song i accually have the original record that song was on twas my grandfathers

  • huh? wasn't the song written by hank williams and jimmie davis?

  • Bobby Darin was the master entertainer, no one did it better than Bobby, any song he wanted to sing, any instrument he wanted to play and on top of that academy nominated actor, and danced very well too, just the best. thanks for posting

  • Awsome, awsome, awsome. I was always a big Bobby Darin fan, and I am a big fan of Country Music today, and just recently discovered this video, and it is just great. However, Bobby made a slight mistake identifying this as a Hank Williams song, as I found the lyrics to it, but it was under Hank Snow's name, but I still love Bobby's rendition of it, even though he left out one verse.

  • Absolutely Marvelous...Bobby is even better then I remembered him....I havnt seen anyone so multi talented in a long long time

  • I think Hank would approve. Great version!

  • "WOW" just gets me every time i see Bobby do this songs, here i go my legs a going again.lol

  • excellent, nobody like bobby...he never got the credit he deserved, thank you

  • what a great version of this song!

  • The guy playing the background guitar is great. He is in several of Bobby's videos.

  • THE GREAT TERRY KELLMAN***THE BEST***& BOBBY LOVED HIM SOOOOOO.......dh

  • Lord but could'ed Bobby sing,I miss him,and his talent,he was wonderful.I only hope that somehow somewhere he knows his fans miss him....

  • Awesome!!! Fricken Great!!! Better than the original!!!

  • You are right my friend. Sort of reminded me of a song that Keith Whitley did before he died, which was an old Lefty Frizzell song called "I never go around mirrors", and Keith added another verse to it, and it was magical.

  • What a talented person. Sure do miss him.

  • Great performer, the best- He had a weak heart though and was encourgaged not to perform live-He did-and it cost him his life-

  • That's why he is shaking his arm and hand at the beginning, he is trying to get some blood into them...

  • He would have died young anyway.

  • what a stupid comment

  • Comment removed

  • Who the fuck asked you?

  • Comment removed

  • WOW....Thank you so much for sharing this video...

  • he didn't make it, someone else did. but it is really well done.

  • wow!!! I did not know he made this kind of music! And so well! Wow!

  • Never heard him like this before. He really re-creates this song completely. If you are going to do a cover -this is the way to do it.

  • ive been a darin fan since 58,ijust can,t understandwhy he was,nt as big as sinatra he could do anything rock, blues, folk, country, and of course swing,he had it all.

  • Hell yeah....

  • I really hope danny3833333 is right about Bobby's legacy bubbling beneath the surface, I would really like to see him get the recognition he worked so hard for and deserves... I love this song, he had so much talent and so much heart.. I love Bobby Darin... thanks for posting this one..

  • Great song, and great singer. 5*

  • Oh man you can see Bobby shaking his arm to get the cirrculation going. It sucks how Elvis who has been died almost the same amount of years as Bobby, gets more recognition. There's a special coming up about him. Where's Bobby's? He was as good! Bobby's time will come.

  • Well, Elvis had 18 Nr Hits, sold more than 500 000 000 records. But it´s not only the success. It´s the story, he came from rags to riches, great comeback in the late 60`s after wasting his time in hollywood. And then his years of drug addiction and his tragical end. The broken American Dream. But you´re right, Bobby had a tremendous talent and is underrated. Though I think Spacey paid great tribute to him in his movie "Beyond the sea".

  • Dude Beyond the Sea rocked!!!!!!!!!!

  • Well, there was a blockbuster movie made about his life only a couple of years ago, and a man who is devoted to Bobby's singing (Michael Buble) is the biggest star in standards today.

  • ''Ditto''

  • Me too,i got it on my desktop and listen to it at least once a day, those vocals just got me hooked, what a voice he had,''Just sheer class'' was Bobby Darin.

  • i cannot get enough of this performance!

  • i loved the show. qupat..

  • Wow!!!!

  • Double Wow!!!!!!!!

  • Love the whistle noise he makes!

  • How is this guy not more famous? He's has more talent than Frank Sinatra ever had, yet, not a lot of people know of him. It's disgusing! So much talent! If only he were still living or lived longer. He would have been even more legendary. He is greatly missed. How i wish i could have seen him perform.

  • Actually he was very famous and popular back then, as well as greatly respected by his peers. I think Sammy Davis Jr. even went so far as to say that he was better than him.

  • Clarification: Sammy said that he (Bobby) was better than him (Sammy).

  • yeah but i mean now. he hasn't recieved enough recognition and almost nobody knows of him. it's terrible.

  • Remember the time we live in. 10, 20, 30 plus years from now - long after American Idol is off the air - Americans will look to the past for sheer talent, and Bobby will be there. He has staying power. Right now his legacy is bubbling beneath the surface, but that kind of talent is never forgotten. As long as there is You Tube etc, he will live on. It is only a matter of time before documentaries are made to bring it all back to life.

  • i pray you're right.

  • You're right. Everybody thought Sammy was the best night club act and Sammy thought it was Bobby. Sammy's voice and impressions were "Par" (the impressions might have been better)and he was a better dancer of course, but when Bobby would start jumping genre's and picking up instruments (and he wrote songs), Sammy had none of those skills.

  • Well, actually, Sam could play just about every instrument in the orchestra, and suitably well, too.

  • Great version, tops em all.

  • Tommy Amato on drums

    ..everybody loves Tommy!

  • And not bad to look at, either!!!

  • Back in the day when performers just wanted to... perform. Now, the "triple threat" performers like Lindsey Lohan, etc... they have no idea what it's like to have the heart and soul of someone who fought their way to the top... We miss you, Bobby!!

  • You are 1000% right..I did not really know anything about Bobby when I was growing up, but I started listening to him and researching his life and now I am addicted..Todays stars will never know or emulate the genuis of Bobby...I make it a point of my life to never let a day past without listening to his music..

  • Bobby Darin had a hell of a lot of soul. Rock, jazz, folk, blues, standards... he could really do it all. He could play, he could write, and damn, he could sing!

  • what a great performer this guy could do it all

  • Great cover. I hate country music in general, but this has a great drive to it, and he sings it with much conviction.

  • He was Great.

  • this is a great song!!

paste this message into 3 comments and press ALT F4 and your crushes name will appear on the screen!!! its soo wierd!

  • Is that guitarist a young Fred Tackett?

  • I don't know who Fred Tackett is but his name is Terry "TK" Kellman. He was like 23 at the time and a good guitarist.

  • Man, Bobby could sing any kind of music, and always with such conviction. I think that's because he truly felt it, knew what the song was all about. He felt lyrics deep in his soul, and brought so much of himself to every performance.

  • Bobby Darin = great music, entertainment. He gave his heart, and soul and eventually his life for his music.

So sad but thank God we have his music and videos like this one. Eddy.

  • LOVE HIM!

  • Bobby could sing any style of song and make it sound great!

  • That's true forstarian bobby darin was gold!

  • The only man who could give elvis a run for his money was Bobby Darrin

  • Awesome Hank cover thanks for sharing that video!

  • This goes to prove the genius of Bobby Darin. Everything he acheived, music(all kinds), acting, song writing, producer, playing all kinds of instruments, proved that he was truely one of a kind...I miss him everyday..

  • Bobby Darin covering Hank Williams. Two of the best; both taken from us far too young. This cover version by Darin is as good as any Hank Williams cover I've ever heard. God bless Bobby Darin.

  • This is Bobby showing his range of genius...love him so much...

  • Wonderful! Thank you! Bobby was the best.

  • The people in the audience got some show that night!

  • The best Ever!

  • He was the greatest..
