Sven, I wanted to say "Thank you" for doing these Let's Play's of the Mysts. I love the games too. Secondly, a request. If Myst V is your least favorite, why have you not done Myst III Exile? It's my 3rd favorite, behind Riven and Uru/PotS. It's also the apex of panoramic pre-rendering, imo. I'd love to hear your insightful musings for the Lesson Ages that Atrus created for his sons (especially Amateria)!. So would many others. When can we anticipate Exile? Thanks for all you do, -zencodex
what i dont understand is at the begining atrus said ' now i'm going to put an end to my useless waiting and go on to a better place' but at the end he's still alive?
@BmdXxx the better place is Releeshahn. It's an ideal world on an Age he wrote during the interim period between Riven and Exile. "Useless waiting" indicated he was beginning to despair that any interloper would come from beyond yet again to save his family another time.
Are you kidding me?! Have they cut out the concept of real actors from this game and replaced them with animated characters? I know that there are other games using real actors, but to me IT was one of the things that made Myst unique :( No wonder I've heard this game got a bad reputation...
Some may say the acting was bad, but hell I still loved it! :D
@Mudstoise This game was a hasty attempt to package up content that was originally going to be part Uru Live (which got cancelled). It shouldn't be considered a "main line" Myst game. It's a sequel to Uru, not to the other Myst games, and should've been called Uru 2 (or they should've released it as another expansion for Uru). The only reason it's called Myst V is because it would sell better with that name.
What exactly IS Atrus's burden anyway? I played this game and had kind of an iffy grasp over what it could have been, and what role the Bahro played in Atrus's family and/or linking books.
Quick question. As someone who has just watched Let's Plays of the first four Myst games but NOT Uru, would you recommend that I watch the LP for Uru first and then watch this one? Or would I not really miss much by not watching it? I care pretty much just about the story when it comes to watching these, so please let me know what you think.
@Alph4Numb3r I've been mainly speaking English for the last few years too (living in Japan), so my Dutch accent is also getting less. I've been accused of speaking Dutch with an English accent by a few people, actually.
@Dilandau3000 Hah, even though I still live in the Netherlands, people also think I'm from England. Oh the joys of being raised in 2 languages. I'm actually more skilled in English than in Dutch.
@Alph4Numb3r: Haha, you too? I hear a lot of Parisian French so I've started adopting my old French teacher's accent. It sounds weird combined with generic Midwest American accent. :|
And there's some South Britain and Spanish in there too...
So, which part of the game is featured on the box art? The box art for the other games is a recognizable location from each game, but I can't find the location for the Myst V box art.
Huh... I'm watching this for nostalgia, but come to think of it, I've never seen or played Uru. I'll have to get around to your LP for that. And since it looks like you actually know how to LP and include commentary and original audio, I guess I'll have to watch as much of your Myst stuff as possible. ^^
One story I've read was that Ubisoft asked Cyan to make this game as a sort of concession for cancelling Uru Live. In essence Cyan was told to make one final Myst game to wrap up the dangling plot threads such as the Bahro (which they were unable to do with the expansions). Hence why the game feels more like another Uru expansion (and two of the Ages in this game were already planned for Uru anyway).
i bought it in ebgames for 89 cents...a year ago and i haven' even touched, and this video is the first thing i've seen about the game and i was gonna install it bu it's going straigh to the trash can...
@Dilandau3000 Actually it was meant to be another Uru expansion, but since Uru was such a failure that they took the ages they were going to put into the expansion and quickly made myst game out of it so people would actually buy it. Maybe that's why the ages feel more like "random places" as you put it, because technically they were
Awesome start, Sven! I hope you don't mind this - but as I watch each video, I'll leave a comment offering some criticism about the game. We both like Riven the most and this one the least. Since you'll most likely be commenting on certain aspects of the gameplay as well, I'll be curious to know if our reasons are the same. :)
(This isn't to say that the game isn't good - after all, it IS a Myst game!)

@Mudstoise I feel the same! I loved the acting, it felt so real back in the Riven days. Myst III and Myst IV were great too.

@Brockbfball1563 Definitely Uru first. Myst V is much more a sequel to Uru than to any of the other Myst games.

@ZZDaikun It seems to resemble Noloben. I guess it could be concept art for that Age that didn't make it into the final version.

Ubisoft at the intro? I though Cyan went full force on this game..or did Ubisoft they publish the game just to make a couple bucks?

@xDanielx2016 they obviously thought the CYAN intro is part of the game, because they didn't play the games...

I know this is after the fact but I always wondered why they chose the end of ages for the Myst subtitle.

Probably simply because it was meant to be the last Myst game.
