I have to agree that the silverado is probably the best all around truck out there. I've owned all of the American brands in the past and they all make good trucks, but I like the GM product better.
I dont know about you people but I beleve Toyotas are f@ckin boring ass cars with boring design interior and exterior.. with exception of the Supra... I always see old asian people driving these "gray" vehicles.. Quallity is good but dang...
Broadly speaking, imports aren't exactly known for "refinement" even among their supporters - more for value and mechanical reliability. Before Lexus was born, Japanese cars were some of the least "refined" (which isn't necessarily a huge criticism since refinement isn't incredibly important in many more utilitarian or economical segments).
My previous reply concerning refinement I meant to direct toward Japanese imports. In terms of quality, other imports such as from Germany certainly are not known at this time for quality. Mercedes and VW/Audi are at the bottom, certainly worse than American cars. BMW for a while, because of i-drive, was just as bad, though now probably it has risen to about average. But these brands do make many cars that look and feel fairly nice ("quality" in the most superficial sense).
you're saying that imports like, Mercedes, BMW, Audi, and Lamborghini are low quality cars. Are you high?! When someone thinks of quality they think of imports, they don't think of crappy unreliable North American cars. Which now, due to a total lack of sales are know going bankrupt, give your head a shake, c'mon. It is a fact, that domestic cars are far less refined then imports. Because they are just quickly built and sold to the general population.
Well, we should probably clarify what we mean by quality. If such things as mechanical reliability and low failure rates are important, than Mercedes is bottom of the barrel. BMW and Lambo are mediocre. If we are talking repair costs, these brands do stunningly poorly. If we are talking a gorgeously crafted leather seat then, yes, these brands are absolutely fantastic in quality. I would agree with you however that many do *perceive* European imports as being of high quality.
In quality ratings which emphasize mechanical dependability, the consensus is that American cars are midpack, Japanese cars are tops, and European cars are worst. I-drive and limp home mode, anyone? But in areas such as beautifully-fit rear lens covers and wonderful dashboard detailing, European makers are peerless. To some this justifies the 1.5x mark-up over comparable cars with lesser detailing. It depends on what one values.
99%agree with ienjoyturtles - Mercedes ML wasn't import - it was built in the US and was below usual MB quality lvl. GL is also 100% made for US market.
Lambo is said not to be of very good quality(for it's price :-P or compared to RR/Bentley)
On the other hand,GM's quality standards afflicted Opel very badly. The slogan"Opel the reliable"is obsolete since the late 70s.
If in the 80s the not-yet-so-called E-class sold out the VW Golf, it had to be somehow better :-P but since the first audi quattro, VW/Audi has catched up and even overtaken MB (because of all the gay electronic toys that go 'kaputt' in Mercedes cars I think).
One important thing to know is the different approach EU and US people have towards cars. In the EU, prestige is much more important while the american sees its car more as a merchandise you just buy, use, throw away.
In europe you pay for the brand in order to piss of your neighbour: "haha my D... is bigger than yours" (3-winged star in a circle or white-and-blue logo :-P) - even if the car itself is boring as hell (early mercedes diesels - Heavy high quality tanks with the power of an anemic grandma)
In the US you pay for the car itself (Big-ass tough shit with lots of Horse Powers, individual air con, automatic gearbox).
The people that get fired up over which truck brand is best are ridiculous. Buy what you want and shut up.
