The reason it was special was because he came from a country that was so poor he trained in the ocean and he had to borrow a bathing suit from another competitor! He KNEW he wasn't going to win or probably even qualify, but he finished! Each country has to start somewhere (remember the Jamaican bobsled team?) I remember watching this on tv and I was like wtf? How the hell did he make it at the Olympic level with a time like that? Must admit I laughed my head off. But glad to see the Aussie spirit just cheering him on.
Stories were going around that he had to swim in a crocodile invested river to win some competition to get here.
The most silly story I've ever heard about him was his country was so embarrassed by this that he was kicked out and banned for life from living there! Probably bullsh*t.

lol yeah I know the stories that came out when this guy swam at the Olympics were insane. I had a good laugh at it myself when I heard them.
That crocodile infested story was one of many of the funny 'conspiracies' behind this guy's story.

I'm not gonna lie. I laughed at this video. Yeah, I feel bad, terrible even. The guy gave a good effort and I'm proud of him. However I'll tell you what i DON'T feel bad about laughing at. That false start. That shit was hilarious. The announcers tried not to laugh. They failed, but they tried.

The reason it was special was because he came from a country that was so poor he trained in the ocean and he had to borrow a bathing suit from another competitor! He KNEW he wasn't going to win or probably even qualify, but he finished! Each country has to start somewhere (remember the Jamaican bobsled team?) I know we always have the patriotism of the U.S. rammed down our throats but sometimes it IS nice when smaller countries and lesser known athletes achieve things.
