@swank502 the DDR2 refers to the type of ram. This does not dictate what type of memory needs to be used on the graphics card. This board has a pci-e 1.1 slot and is compatible with all pci-e 2.0 graphics cards. So you can use any graphics card on the g31 motherboard.
that heatsink on 9600gt sucks. i would prefer the original nvidia stock cooler for 9600gt. my stock board seems run really cool at idle 41c in winter and 43c in summer, full load between 56~58c. but now i downclocked it to 550/1210/900 and idle temp stay at 38c in winter/40c in summer, full load in 54~56c. fan spin is 40% in idle. which is better board :)
Im planning on a build using similar ahrdware except an e5300 processor.
However the gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2L iG31 seems to only have 1 system fan header, when the case i want has 3 or 4 fans. Did you use a splitter or link them to the power supply. I would prefer not to link to the psu as i would like to control them using something like speed fan etc. How would you do it?
You should check your case's air flow and that you cpu coltage is set to stock in the motherboard bios. I used AS5 thermal paste and just the stock heatsink / fan. Also what proram are you using to check the temperature?
I pre setted my whole CPU and heatsink applied new thermal paste. My whole system is STOCK but no use bro, i'm checking the temp in bios, also i just putted my finger on heatsink now it's 25 also i applied CPU Coll n Quit but STILL i'm not able to overclock my PC over 2.6 it's not detecting sata then and fucking up my ram frequency -.- i tried to enable Ram Flexibilty but still i cant seem to make it higher and detect my sata again
I think its best for you to google for an overclocking guide so you can get a better grasp on fsb, memory timings and motherboard bios settings. Without seeing your system I would not be able to tell you what the issues are. However read up about what all your bios settings do before just changing things and hoping it works.
4550 is quite low end for gaming, I am sure it would be able to play Call of Duty and other games on lower settings but would not be very good for more intensive games like crysis. You wil be much more satisfied by spending a little bit extra to get an ati 4670.
I built a new system yesterday. Intel E5300 overclocked to 3.5 GHZ with a passively cooled 8800gt. I did some filming of it and I will try to edit it soon. Thanks
You wont get any decent gaming performance unless you get a 4650 or better. the 4650 can be had for $55 here in Australia. If you are in the US you must be able to get it for less. I would suggest you spend just a little extra time saving up.
ATI has just released its ATI 5870 graphics card. A single on of those performs close to 4890's in crossfire, while only consuming slightly more then a single 4890. Its also cheaper then two 4890's.
If you want a good crossfire motherboard it depends on the CPU you are using. Any i5/i7 motherboard would be fine. Fore Core2Duo's and Core2Quads
What GPU you looking at using because I am thinking that the PSU in your case probably wont have enough power to run anything higher then a 9600GT.
Watts arent important when considering the PSU, its the number of amps on the 12+ Volt rails. You can determine this by looking at the specs of the PSU. It should say how many Watts are dedicated to the 12+ V rail. You then divide this amount by 12.
26amps is a pretty good figure on the 12V rail. Enough for ATI 4850 or Nvidia GTS 250
No need to have extra cooling on the CPU. The Intel E1500 will get to 2.9 Ghz (266Mhz FSB) on stock voltage. At 3.4 I think the Voltage was 1.45 and it did not exceed the thermal spec from Intel.

As I just need to sell my Mac (which shouldn't be that hard) I'm getting a similar spec PC:
Intel E1500 / E3300
2GB RAM
ATI Radeon HD4650 512MB DDR2
160GB HDD
After overclocking is it ok?
I know that the HD4650 is terrible. When I'll get more money I'll swap it with a 9600GT
PS2Gameplays 1 year ago
ati 4650 isn't too bad, You will just need to play at like 720P instead of 1080P or 1920 x 1200.
AB89 1 year ago
i suggest go with the 4670 it has awesome performance for it price i mean crysis high 768p is pretty awesome for that price
basbas63 1 year ago
@PS2Gameplays The 4650 is a 9600GT equivalent. Upgrading wouldn't do anything for you, I'd recommend a Radeon 5750.
PrecociousPanda 1 year ago
@PrecociousPanda
HD4650 is 512MB 64-Bit DDR2 Memory
9600GT is 512MB 256-Bit DDR3 Memory.
Figure which one is faster yourself
I don't even have that crappy CPU anymore. Quad rules.

Change your cpu to ram ratio to 5:6 when you overclock your cpu your ram goes up too... so make your ratio 5:6
and increase your vcore to 1,4v you should be able to get 3ghz+
cheers mate

RAM: 2GB - 23.50
GPU: tba
HDD: 32EUR - 160GB
DVD: 19EUR
