Yes, Yes, young people are well known for considering the consequences of their actions to them and society as a whole. That is why we don't set age limits on drinking, voting, and age of consent for sex. Wait... that's not correct is it.
We do not want government in control of marriage. We need to start treating each other as humans. Government free marriage is the pathway to equality. Government should have no control over religion or marriage. Leave marriage to the religions or to the people to freely contract with one another.
The Mormons thing is strange for another reason: CA Proposition (h)8, and the similar Amendments and proposed Amendments in other States, and the proposed US DOMA, all forbid not only same-sex marriage but POLYGAMY as well.
Every one of them (even the Utah State Constitutional Amendment!) all go out of their way to specify that marriage is defined as between *A* man and *A* womAn!
True, the mainstream LDS faith has not practiced polygamy in over a century, BUT THEY STILL BELIEVE IN IT!
Do you know Who INVENTED the concept of Separation of Church and State, as far as we can tell?
Not Madison (author of 1st Amendment). Yes, not only are there gay animals, but animals have much more diverse forms of sexuality.
Human sexuality alone is not restricted to straight gay and bi. There are hermaphrodites, and iirc some people's cells can have strange things going on, like XXY chromosomes, for example.

Senator Gronstal does not speak for me when he claims that his generation does not care either way about gay marriage. Senator Gronstal is so lacking in understanding the larger issue for our nation that it is stunning and sad. This is what we get for Iowa leadership? Men with zero moral understanding of the relationship of gay/lesbian rights and how it affects or future. Iowa is now on a total slippery slope morally. Polygamy, Man -boy love, removing dissent through immoral legislation. Shame.
You are 49. He wasn't referring to your generation. I am 21. He was referring to MY generation. And he is absolutely right. i have to agree with you - this was incredibly powerful and i got goosebumps the moment he said, "You've already lost." Such an inspiring moment in such hard times!
I can not believe this.... God did not born you gay its a choice.... its also a demon spirit..... I know God knows all and you can not hide from that!!!! you have to answer to him for all your actions here on earth. Not me nor anyone else for that matter. What matters is Jesus Christ!!!!!! Who cares about the world, live your life and be happy!!!! Stop pushing everyone around.... Just be happy !!!! stop winning already!!!!! your in my prayers always God bless you all!!!!!!!!!
Okay.. I hate it how people are so "tolerant" to gay people, but not christians! In fact .. people shun them. We talk about tolerance?!?! Then tolerate everybody else!!! Geez! whats up with this country?
Excuse me? This isn't a comparison of lifes... the FACT is homosexuals want christians to "tolerate" them while they bash christianity like no tomorrow.. THAT my friend is bias bullcrap. Since when did we HAVE TO tolerate anything? Its a free freakin country.. OUR right as a people to tolerate what we please.. That hypocritical garbage has been praised.. but since you had a rough life... that makes it right, am I correct? No no.. go ahead try and justify the hypocracy.. go on.. please..
well how about the fact that marriage has nothing to do with Christianity, one is a legal issue, the other is a "moral" issue. the fact is, the bible was written as a set of guidelines, not laws to live by. the list of reasons why religion should not be involved is vast. if you don't like the idea of gay marriage, then don't have one.
your view on the Bible is not exactly synoymous with that of most Christians. but you're right, Christianity in general has nothing to do with state-issued marriage licenses. but you can't ignore the implications that gay marriage will have on several independent institutions such as churches.
by legalizing gay marriage, it could possibly, in turn, punish churches that belive that homosexuality is wrong. THAT is where the true problem lies.
People keep bringing that one up, right along with "people are gonna marry their dogs." It's bullshit.
There are only two ways the government can regulate churches: by ordinary legal codes (no human sacrifices, no illegal drugs, churches must have fire exits, etc.) and by getting into mutual agreements -- if a church takes government money, it has to follow government rules. Don't like the rules? Don't take the money.
much like establishments that did not want to desegregate eventually went out of business. if the church does not want to have the marriage there so be it. the funny thing is, Christianity is all about inclusion by its own definition, that's why their hypocrisy is all the more ridiculous. they are destroying all their credibility and history is going to judge them very harshly. Iowa has been at the front of progress for over a hundred years, so change is coming.
How would gay marriage "punish" churches? Churches would not be required to perform ceremonial marriages. Even today, a church is not required to perform a heterosexual marriage, so what makes you think it would be any different?
All that would be enforced is our right to a legal marriage.
probably because the money would be tempting, and the church wouldn't be able to justify to the homophobe church goers (not that all are) the hypocrisy of marrying the couples despite their oppositions. That would make me really lol. In any case, I'm super proud of Gronstal--I even emailed him in support of his stance as a thank you.
Like I said, no one is fighting for making it mandatory that CHURCHES marry homosexual couples, rather we just want the right to be legally married under US law. The government would never force a church to marry a couple. It happens all the time with straight couples. Churches can refuse to marry anyone.
Besides that, which lesbian or gay couple would want to marry in an environment that doesn't accept them, or even would rather like to see them eradicated. No me!
Besides that, as I'm absolutely not religious, do not belief in a God as written in their scriptures and can only concluded that these scriptures were written by men with an agenda and then again translated by men with another agenda and as such have nothing to do with the word of this God, I'm not going there either...
My biggest concern is that I will be granted the same rights as a heterosexual couple. Alot of people don't understand the challenges a gay couple faces when they are not legally married.
"Alot of people don't understand the challenges a gay couple faces when they are not legally married."
"Alot" is not a word, it's "a lot". All I have to say is Boo Who, waa, whine. Really what is the burden poor gays have. I do feel bad they are Gay. I am just glad I like woman, although many gays fantasized straight people want to be gay.... No, we where born this way, straight, heterosexual. You are not going to gay us up with your "alternative life style choice". (now its a choice than?)
What makes you think Gay people want to be married in your church? Haha. Its almost laughable. "Gays will than demand they have the right to be married in Church"
Are you serious? Do you honestly believe that? Why would we want to be married in a "church" that thinks of us the way you do?
And since we are going to go to the immature level of using grammar to argue our points, its not "now its a choice than" ... Its "then" not "than".
Besides, there are a good number of denominations that support Gay marriage and will preform them with all the joy and greatness that any marriage warrents.
"no one is making it mandatory CHURCHES marry homosexual couples," YET!
THAT WILL BE NEXT. You butt f'ers are aggressively persecuting little old 62 yr old ladies for donating a few bucks to Prop 8. SHAME ON YOU. Gays in SanFran do their gay parade publicly dressing as Jesus, "Nun Drag", Priest and mock F each other. Heathens. What about photographers, catering, flowers? They refuse on moral grounds? LGBT and ACLU will persecute them. Why? two dudes like sodomy or woman 69'ing each other?
The catholick cult chooses not to 'marry' divorced people (unless they pay the bribes to 'change history'). The same opportunity is there for the fundies to deny couples the opportunity to marry in their cult temples.
By that same 'right', a cult may choose not to solemnize a couple. Now, if that cult is using public lands or otherwise depending on the state for financing, it's a 'horse of a different color'.
Wondering if GMC has the intestinal fortitude to provide a single posting demonstrating WHICH 'church' has ever been forced to conduct a marriage ceremony that went against its cult's dogma.
No one is persecuting a 62 year old...We are boycotting her! She owns a restaurant that has a 75% gay clientele. She takes our money and then she donates to strip the rights of those same gay people.
THATS JUST BAD PUBLIC RELATIONS!
So we decided not to give her our money any more so she couldn't use it against us.
thats hilarious, marriage equality for all, i should be able to have as many spouses as i can handle. whats it to you, so dont discriminate. let the child molsters marry your children, they deserve equality dont discriminate, i guess the line needs to be drawn in the sand. lets discrimate
I live in Canada where gay marriage has been legal for 4 years. The Law is called the Civil Marriage Act for a good reason, it applies only to civil marriage and churches are still free to marry or not to marry. However, many churches welcomed the change and gladly marry gays. Your fears have no foundation. And yes, I'm a Christian and support gay rights. I know a Christian lesbian couple from California named Darlene and Becky and they are the most wonderful people you would want to know.
Let me give you the blueprints for a perfect world. Take every person who is homophobic, racist and xenophobic, and replace them with people like you.
I respect your argument however all nations on the earth are subjected to a four generational cycle of judgment by God as found in scripture. Each generation is approx 44 years in length and is marked by a characteristic such as violence, self absorption, etc. At the end of the fourth generation that nation either is removed from history or returns to and removes corruption from the 5 basic institutions that God has established. The USA is believed to be in the fourth generation right now.
Your argument is fundamentally flawed, as the bible is fundamentally flawed. You begin by talking about respecting another's argument, but you completely contradict yourself within your own comment. If you respected others, you would acknowledge the fact that gay people want nothing more than to be treated fairly UNDER THE LAW. Nothing more, nothing less. The tired old saying of "gays want special rights" is just fear mongering, nothing more. Keep your religious beliefs out of OUR government.
@alleyhse, uh, no. The one thing you said that's true is true because of a completely different matter: yes, generations do come in cycles of four, according to an en vogue sociological theory.
Generations average about 20 years, not 44. There have been about 13 generations of Anglo-Saxon presence in the New World since Jamestown and Pocahontas, of which maybe 9 or so are since Thomas Jefferson and the Revolutionary War and the actual existence of the USA as a nation.
by the way, your argument by saying "if you don't like it, don't do it" sounds a lot like the slaveholder's arguments against abolitionists in the 1850's...
"If you owning slaves is immoral, then dont own one."
like i said, commonality doesn't justify corruption
That is a horrible analogy. Way to shoehorn slavery into the argument to try to make yourself look morally righteous. VH is saying that if you don't like the terms of a contract, then don't sign the contract. Your argument fails because the abolitionists were not decrying the conditions of a contract they had signed. Furthermore, there is a big difference between stripping people of their liberty and brutalizing them for a profit and wanting to love someone without discrimination.
Oh yeah, I remember my high school, where roving gangs of homosexuals would beat up Christians and take their lunch money. Oh, the humanity!
I tolerate Christians quite well, thank you; I count many of them among my friends. I do not do so well with bigots. As for bigots who basically own the country and still scream like babies when someone says they ought to share just one of their many privileges -- yes, I'll bash them all I can, and I'm not even gay.
If they indeed "bash" Christians, it is because the people who have been aggressively and systematically trying to deprive them of the protection of the laws have been Christians (or at least doing it in the name of Christianity). Tolerate gays or not-- it's up to you; but don't try to legislate your intolerance onto the whole country and infringe on people's legal rights. That's when your intolerance becomes a problem.
Well, obviously it isn't as the right wing, mainly Christian, group of people thinks it's up to them to IMPOSE their ideas on other groups in society who do not hold the same ideas.
"Free" implies equality, as not granting equality implies some people are NOT free. At least not in having their love and relationship with another adult recognised and protected by and under the law of the State.
You 'tolerate' in YOUR home to your likings; not in mine!
Blame the Christians. Yea how awful. I wish ALL the Gay Americans could experience ISLAM first hand and live in IRAN or Yemen or Somalia..... please. THEY KILL GAYS IN ISLAMIC COUNTRIES.
Don't demonize any one for your special interest. Gays are the most self centered narcissistic group next to atheist, and all you think and talk about is your anal fixation. NO ONE CARES. Keep it private. And validation from society will not make you feel normal, its not NORMAL.
The only difference between Christianists in the US and Islamists in the middleast is that we live in a secular nation where so called Christians cannot oppress those they thing are unholy.
The difference is not between Christianity and Islam, it's between the secular state and the religious. We don't want to become Iran, that's why we support the civil right of Gays to marry.
How can you wish your fellow American brothers and sisters to live under circumstances that could cost them their life? If anything experiencing your life being threatend would increase the will to fight for their RIGHT as a HUMAN. Ok sense you seem to think gays are self centered etc I won't bother arguing you on that, but let me say this; SO WHAT? Even the most selfish people should have the right to marry, and you cannot regulate it upon selfishness even if you wanted. IMO YOU are selfish!
That's because ISLAMIC countries are based on religion. This is why we have the separation of church and state. They also beat women for talking to a man other than her husband. They also do not allow them to show their hair or skin. They also will kill a woman for disobeying her husband. They also cut your toung off if you lie....I could keep going but I think you realize a theocracy is BARBARIC.
The religious beliefs that make marriage "sacred" are 100% nurture. If the criterion for protected status under the law is biological determinism, marriage loses.
bmdmaal, if you're miffed that nobody's licking you up & down for your semi-supportive view, it's probably because you don't see how condescending it is. Your "agreement" with homosexuality isn't being sought, and in the final analysis isn't even necessary. We're fighting for rights that you already have and that we should have too. The fight is against stupidity -- the illogical, idiotic notion that others must "give" us those rights.
Stupidity is why the courts act when The People screw up
Kate's "You've already lost; my generation doesn't care" is probably the best summary of the situation there is. There's a similar saying among physicists: "Science advances, funeral by funeral." As the new generation replaces the old, they also replace outmoded ideas.
A few decades from now, it'll seem bizarre to most people that gay marriage wasn't allowed. What could those old-timers have been thinking?
"I see a bunch of people that merely want to profess their love for each other, and want state law to recognize that." Yes, this is what the whole gay marriage thing stemmed from, and for that they have civil unions. However, that's not good enough. It has to have the title "marriage" attached to it... THAT is why lots of people are quite pissed off and annoyed at the whole gay marriage thing. At least the people who are in his daughter's generation (of which I count myself).
Why should they be satisfied with being segregated? Over 50 years after Brown v. Board of Education our country is still struggling to learn that separate is not equal. It's a shame.
To amerex, who says, "it ain't right", were you given a choice at birth, for your orientation? i didn't ask to be born heterosexual, i just was. Gay people didn't ask to be born homosexual, they just were. They have to play with the cards they were dealt. Take your blinders off!
My husband and I have enjoyed a marriage for 26 years. We feel no threat to our marriage now that same-sex couples may also enter into their own "traditional" marriages. Thank you, Senator.
Thank you. I grew up in southern Illinois. Los Angeles is now my home. I moved here in hopes of finding a community of people that embraced me. I have found that, but only in pockets of California. It is good to know that youth might choose to stay in Iowa one day soon to be with their families and grow old together.
That day, can begin today if Iowa leaders uphold their movements towards equality for all Americans. Know there are thousands praying for their families to be protected by the equal protection of our government. As minorities, it is obvious this type of protection is needed. Only now are Americans beginning to see PUBLICLY what gays and lesbians must endure privately. Thank you for helping us all.
It's not that this generation "doesn't care" because let me tell you, as soon as it effects a someone personally, THEY CARE. Kinda' like when the Reagans started to care about being pro- stem cell research as soon as Ronald got Alzheimer's. This generation "doesn't care" if gays marry because they want the same consideration! They don't want to be told that they can't marry who THEY want to marry...whether they're gay, black, Jewish, a circus freak, or trapezoidal. If they're love, so be it.
Just like interracial marriage, progress comes from understanding the unknown and not demonizing "others" whom you see as different.
This is why it's a generational issue (I still have old racist relatives) & why most kids today grow up w/ no idea of the predjudice of the past and real equality takes root.
There is no legal reason why gays shouldn't have recognized marriage contracts w/ their partner. no. legal. reason.
Why do the conservatives care so much what other people do? Mind your own damn business! I think most of the conservative/neo-cons have some closeted fetish such as Ted Haggard, Mark Foley, or that guy getting sex in the airport toilet. Focusing on the "sins" of others allows them not to focus on what they themselves are doing. Conservatives/Christians/Neocons, please ask yourselves what are you compensating for? What freaky interests are you hiding from the rest of us? and LEAVE US ALONE!!
I agree with you here. And God DID teach us to "love thy neighbor as thyself." And are the conservatives/Christians living by that quote by making gay marriage a wedge issue as they are now? I don't think so.
I think it's wise that our generation doesn't give a shit. I bet there are people out there that love sticking string cheese up their ass too, but I certainly don't give a shit. Who would?
It's not MY place to judge what people do for fun or love. I don't fucking care and neither should anybody else.
YES! Its a generational issue, its not really a matter of if we'll have marriage equality, its about when. A good man who has raised his family with good values!! I applaud him for standing up for what is right!!!!
Your daughter was so right, you've raised a generation of people that "don't care" this is EXACTLY what is wrong with America today...and yes....that is SO WRONG!
Loving Vs Virginia was considered Judicial Tyranny too! 70% of people opposed it, people thought God put the Races on separate Continents clearly intending for them not to mix. Listen, if every matter of Constitutionality is already decided, we wouldn't have an SC anymore. The Constitution protects Equal Rights, the SC has the right to evaluate restrictions in light of it. Did you read the ruling?
Way to go, Sen. Gronstal! I know you speak for many Iowans as well as for people from other parts of the country. Thank you for your compassionate and heartfelt words.
Yes, Yes, young people are well known for considering the consequences of their actions to them and society as a whole. That is why we don't set age limits on drinking, voting, and age of consent for sex. Wait... that's not correct is it.

That hypocritical garbage has been praised.. but since you had a rough life... that makes it right, am I correct? No no.. go ahead try and justify the hypocracy.. go on.. please..
EskimoJOE55 2 years ago
well how about the fact that marriage has nothing to do with Christianity, one is a legal issue, the other is a "moral" issue. the fact is, the bible was written as a set of guidelines, not laws to live by. the list of reasons why religion should not be involved is vast. if you don't like the idea of gay marriage, then don't have one.
MANCHILD420 2 years ago 4
your view on the Bible is not exactly synoymous with that of most Christians. but you're right, Christianity in general has nothing to do with state-issued marriage licenses. but you can't ignore the implications that gay marriage will have on several independent institutions such as churches.
by legalizing gay marriage, it could possibly, in turn, punish churches that belive that homosexuality is wrong. THAT is where the true problem lies.
EskimoJOE55 2 years ago
People keep bringing that one up, right along with "people are gonna marry their dogs." It's bullshit.
There are only two ways the government can regulate churches: by ordinary legal codes (no human sacrifices, no illegal drugs, churches must have fire exits, etc.) and by getting into mutual agreements -- if a church takes government money, it has to follow government rules. Don't like the rules? Don't take the money.
vonhoother 2 years ago 5
much like establishments that did not want to desegregate eventually went out of business. if the church does not want to have the marriage there so be it. the funny thing is, Christianity is all about inclusion by its own definition, that's why their hypocrisy is all the more ridiculous. they are destroying all their credibility and history is going to judge them very harshly. Iowa has been at the front of progress for over a hundred years, so change is coming.
MANCHILD420 2 years ago 3
How would gay marriage "punish" churches? Churches would not be required to perform ceremonial marriages. Even today, a church is not required to perform a heterosexual marriage, so what makes you think it would be any different?
All that would be enforced is our right to a legal marriage.
FeLiX13sLaVe 2 years ago 2
probably because the money would be tempting, and the church wouldn't be able to justify to the homophobe church goers (not that all are) the hypocrisy of marrying the couples despite their oppositions. That would make me really lol. In any case, I'm super proud of Gronstal--I even emailed him in support of his stance as a thank you.
eyeshadowlady 2 years ago 3
Like I said, no one is fighting for making it mandatory that CHURCHES marry homosexual couples, rather we just want the right to be legally married under US law. The government would never force a church to marry a couple. It happens all the time with straight couples. Churches can refuse to marry anyone.
FeLiX13sLaVe 2 years ago 7
Besides that, which lesbian or gay couple would want to marry in an environment that doesn't accept them, or even would rather like to see them eradicated. No me!
Besides that, as I'm absolutely not religious, do not belief in a God as written in their scriptures and can only concluded that these scriptures were written by men with an agenda and then again translated by men with another agenda and as such have nothing to do with the word of this God, I'm not going there either...
pe1biv 2 years ago 4
My biggest concern is that I will be granted the same rights as a heterosexual couple. Alot of people don't understand the challenges a gay couple faces when they are not legally married.
FeLiX13sLaVe 2 years ago 4
"Alot of people don't understand the challenges a gay couple faces when they are not legally married."
"Alot" is not a word, it's "a lot". All I have to say is Boo Who, waa, whine. Really what is the burden poor gays have. I do feel bad they are Gay. I am just glad I like woman, although many gays fantasized straight people want to be gay.... No, we where born this way, straight, heterosexual. You are not going to gay us up with your "alternative life style choice". (now its a choice than?)
gmcjetpilot 2 years ago
What makes you think Gay people want to be married in your church? Haha. Its almost laughable. "Gays will than demand they have the right to be married in Church"
Are you serious? Do you honestly believe that? Why would we want to be married in a "church" that thinks of us the way you do?
And since we are going to go to the immature level of using grammar to argue our points, its not "now its a choice than" ... Its "then" not "than".
FeLiX13sLaVe 2 years ago 8
Besides, there are a good number of denominations that support Gay marriage and will preform them with all the joy and greatness that any marriage warrents.

Gays in SanFran do their gay parade publicly dressing as Jesus, "Nun Drag", Priest and mock F each other. Heathens. What about photographers, catering, flowers? They refuse on moral grounds? LGBT and ACLU will persecute them. Why? two dudes like sodomy or woman 69'ing each other?
gmcjetpilot 2 years ago
GMC.... that is SHEER BULLSHIT!
Got any proof of your fears?
amusafvet 2 years ago 4
Wondering if GMC has the intestinal fortitude to provide a single posting demonstrating WHICH 'church' has ever been forced to conduct a marriage ceremony that went against its cult's dogma.

No one is persecuting a 62 year old...We are boycotting her! She owns a restaurant that has a 75% gay clientele. She takes our money and then she donates to strip the rights of those same gay people.
THATS JUST BAD PUBLIC RELATIONS!
So we decided not to give her our money any more so she couldn't use it against us.

The USA is believed to be in the fourth generation right now.
alleyhse 2 years ago
Your argument is fundamentally flawed, as the bible is fundamentally flawed. You begin by talking about respecting another's argument, but you completely contradict yourself within your own comment. If you respected others, you would acknowledge the fact that gay people want nothing more than to be treated fairly UNDER THE LAW. Nothing more, nothing less. The tired old saying of "gays want special rights" is just fear mongering, nothing more. Keep your religious beliefs out of OUR government.
wcduke 2 years ago 14
@alleyhse, uh, no. The one thing you said that's true is true because of a completely different matter: yes, generations do come in cycles of four, according to an en vogue sociological theory.
Generations average about 20 years, not 44. There have been about 13 generations of Anglo-Saxon presence in the New World since Jamestown and Pocahontas, of which maybe 9 or so are since Thomas Jefferson and the Revolutionary War and the actual existence of the USA as a nation.
COMALiteJ 1 year ago
by the way, your argument by saying "if you don't like it, don't do it" sounds a lot like the slaveholder's arguments against abolitionists in the 1850's...
"If you owning slaves is immoral, then dont own one."
like i said, commonality doesn't justify corruption
EskimoJOE55 2 years ago
That is a horrible analogy. Way to shoehorn slavery into the argument to try to make yourself look morally righteous. VH is saying that if you don't like the terms of a contract, then don't sign the contract. Your argument fails because the abolitionists were not decrying the conditions of a contract they had signed. Furthermore, there is a big difference between stripping people of their liberty and brutalizing them for a profit and wanting to love someone without discrimination.
AwakenedDesires 2 years ago
Oh yeah, I remember my high school, where roving gangs of homosexuals would beat up Christians and take their lunch money. Oh, the humanity!
I tolerate Christians quite well, thank you; I count many of them among my friends. I do not do so well with bigots. As for bigots who basically own the country and still scream like babies when someone says they ought to share just one of their many privileges -- yes, I'll bash them all I can, and I'm not even gay.
vonhoother 2 years ago 5
If they indeed "bash" Christians, it is because the people who have been aggressively and systematically trying to deprive them of the protection of the laws have been Christians (or at least doing it in the name of Christianity). Tolerate gays or not-- it's up to you; but don't try to legislate your intolerance onto the whole country and infringe on people's legal rights. That's when your intolerance becomes a problem.
AwakenedDesires 2 years ago 7
EskimoJOE: "Its a free freakin country"
Well, obviously it isn't as the right wing, mainly Christian, group of people thinks it's up to them to IMPOSE their ideas on other groups in society who do not hold the same ideas.
"Free" implies equality, as not granting equality implies some people are NOT free. At least not in having their love and relationship with another adult recognised and protected by and under the law of the State.
You 'tolerate' in YOUR home to your likings; not in mine!
pe1biv 2 years ago 3
"mainly Christian, group"
Blame the Christians. Yea how awful. I wish ALL the Gay Americans could experience ISLAM first hand and live in IRAN or Yemen or Somalia..... please. THEY KILL GAYS IN ISLAMIC COUNTRIES.
Don't demonize any one for your special interest. Gays are the most self centered narcissistic group next to atheist, and all you think and talk about is your anal fixation. NO ONE CARES. Keep it private. And validation from society will not make you feel normal, its not NORMAL.
gmcjetpilot 2 years ago
The only difference between Christianists in the US and Islamists in the middleast is that we live in a secular nation where so called Christians cannot oppress those they thing are unholy.
The difference is not between Christianity and Islam, it's between the secular state and the religious. We don't want to become Iran, that's why we support the civil right of Gays to marry.
Bokai 2 years ago 4
How can you wish your fellow American brothers and sisters to live under circumstances that could cost them their life? If anything experiencing your life being threatend would increase the will to fight for their RIGHT as a HUMAN. Ok sense you seem to think gays are self centered etc I won't bother arguing you on that, but let me say this; SO WHAT? Even the most selfish people should have the right to marry, and you cannot regulate it upon selfishness even if you wanted. IMO YOU are selfish!
FunnyDummy 2 years ago 9
That's because ISLAMIC countries are based on religion. This is why we have the separation of church and state. They also beat women for talking to a man other than her husband. They also do not allow them to show their hair or skin. They also will kill a woman for disobeying her husband. They also cut your toung off if you lie....I could keep going but I think you realize a theocracy is BARBARIC.
Separation of Church and State!

bmdmaal, if you're miffed that nobody's licking you up & down for your semi-supportive view, it's probably because you don't see how condescending it is. Your "agreement" with homosexuality isn't being sought, and in the final analysis isn't even necessary. We're fighting for rights that you already have and that we should have too. The fight is against stupidity -- the illogical, idiotic notion that others must "give" us those rights.

What could those old-timers have been thinking?
wisnij 2 years ago 6
"I see a bunch of people that merely want to profess their love for each other, and want state law to recognize that." Yes, this is what the whole gay marriage thing stemmed from, and for that they have civil unions. However, that's not good enough. It has to have the title "marriage" attached to it... THAT is why lots of people are quite pissed off and annoyed at the whole gay marriage thing. At least the people who are in his daughter's generation (of which I count myself).
zhixson 2 years ago

This generation "doesn't care" if gays marry because they want the same consideration!
