OMG!!! I never thought I'd live long enough to hear myself say it, but, after all these decades, I've finally encountered a performance of "Pictures" that I like better than Richter's. Until now, Richter was the only one who made me really love the piano version of this piece.
Moiseiwitsch's way is quite different from Richter's-- as well as Mussorgsky's, in many instances.
Moiseiwitsch made two recordings of this, one in 1945 and one in 1960. This is most probably the first one, and it's my favourite (they're quite different and in the later recording he skips part of the "Cabane sur des pattes de poule").
It is a very individualistic, imaginative interpretation, with a lot of changes, but it's not the like the (sometimes a little bombastic) "arrangement" of Horowitz.
