Thanks a lot for the brief but yet effective tutorial. I would try to work on the sound quality though. Specially if I want to retain a viewers attention and possibly get them to subscribe.
Thanks for this introduction! I am currently doing this to a 3-colored logo with white areas between the colors which separates them. When i do the live trace, the different "shapes" of the logo, which are very simple, won't come out as separate pieces, but rather one big piece, like the rasterized image. Any ideas? I tried going to trace options but not luck.
@Cambrand - either go to object > ungroup ... or just RIGHT CLICK the whole thing and ungroup.. but you have to click expand after live trace first like i do in the video
@ITcrayons Thank you, that worked fine! I've got another question though. When Im using live trace, sometimes the colors get separated into like 1000s of small pieces when it should be just 1 piece for that color. Im guessing it has to do with the rasterized picture is low quality. Is there any way to fix this so it doesnt break up the areas into tons of pieces, just 1, or at least fewer?
@Cambrand - yes it is because of the low quality, the only way to deal with that is make a selection if all the pieces so you have everything you want as 1 piece in 1 selection.. then go to Window > Pathfinder > then select the first 1 ( its called unite) and it will make it into 1 whole piece, if you still have little gaps of white, brush over them or use a few rectangles to fill them up, then repeat the pathfinder (unite) process to get them as 1 element aswell.
My clip doesn't change except to black and white and the other tracing options don't help. Can someone help me? What do you have your Live Trace options set at and does this work for colored graphics?
@malexander1625 I Don't Know If You Figured Out Yet Or Not But This Is For Everyone That LOSES COLOR WHEN LIVE TRACING Just Change The Preset In The Upper Left To Technical Or Color 6 Etc.
@NUSHTV Thank you so much for adding this. I am new to AI and have been searching for this answer! And great tutorial - it was very easy to understand...thanks ITcrayons!
Just starting my sign shop and pulling my hair out trying to learn adobe. But you were awesome!!!! Easy to follow and understand. Thanks a ton....Do you have other tutorials???
So I tried to make a vector out of a jpeg and it WORKS! It even worked better than I expected. One question. Why is some of my background not being removed at times? Example. I created a vector out of a logo called "PEARL JAM". I followed the background removal steps and most of the background was removed. However, some of it's not, such as the circular areas on the letter "P" and the space in the letter "A". Can this be fixed?
I want to be able to transfer a JPEG image to CAD and then be able to manipulate (stretch and/or change line contours of) separate shape parts of the image. Does anyone know of any programs that can do so?
@JESSELTV same thing happens to me. But the interesting thing is, if I keep trying it a few times it finally works. Still, some of my background is showing. It removed most, but not completely all of it. Trying to figure out if I can still go in to the newly created vector and remove the final parts of the background showing
9minutes of talking. you could have done it in 2 minutes instead of repeating yourself and maybe show us the saving part. what file does it become? still jpg? can it be used directly on dreamweaver?
i followed instr' and i can get that far..but i am wanting to save or convert so my plotter will cut out these logos, i am using signgo and adobe c5..can you help
Great video, very intuitive I will certainly be replaying your video to help me convert my jpeg logo. Thank you. All I need now is reinstall CS5 on my desktop :)
Just lose the voice mask, it's a little hard to understand at first. Unless there is a valid 'accessibility' reason ?!?

great tut, thanks.
I have a jpeg Floor plan that I need to convert to dwg in order to export it to 3ds max. Thanks to your tut, I know now how to do that.
since the floor plan has dimensions, I am wondering how to scale the floor plan in Illustrator. perhaps you have a suggestion. thanks
