@graknor I can agree with you on the U.S. involving itself on WWI, but you must be forgetting that the U.S. had a non-interventionist policy up until WW2 as a result of WWI. It's called the Neutrality Act est. 1935. You cannot say the U.S. was NEVER non-interventionist. The attack on Pearl Harbor later contradicted this Act and thus caused the U.S. to get involved in WW2.

Ambassadors don't act like that. I would be upset is our US official acting like that. From the West's point-of-view he is acting hostile. If others are as worked-up as he is then many Chinese are hostile. Diplomates talk out issues and don't tell the other side to "shut up". All major powers are criticized and China needs to get use to it. If China presents itself as hostile towards the US then this can start war. Well I totally agree that the ambassador isn't acting all that diplomatic. But as I have said MANY times, his words are of a defensive nature. Thats the important thing to note, a defensive nature. This is all because of Taiwan. Both US and Chinese militaries are preparing for war regardless of the speeches. Chinese military is preparing to take Tawain by force in a surprise high-tech attack denying sea access to the US Navy in the Taiwan area. US is preparing to help Taiwan. Both governments are aggressive and might end up in another cold war. No one wants this but the US, due to bad policy, is caught in the middle. If the Taiwan issue get settled then the US will be less worried.

China denied an several US naval ship pot access to Hong Kong which is in violation of their treaty with the UK when the turned over possession. In US Japan military war games a Chinese sub snuck up on an US aircraft carrier and surfaced so the US saw them. We are building Ballistc Missile Defense at Japan pointed at China. After the Chinese fired missiles over Taiwan the US sent 40 US warships into the region as a sign. There are more cyber attacks from China than anywhere else in the world by ration with the population. This is in the span of several years. Both presidents are trying to calm things down. It is more complicated and not all about China affairs. I forgot to mention the Chinese anti-satellite laser tests againt US satellites. US has agreed to defend Taiwan for many years now. China just recently said they will take Taiwan by force. We are against Taiwan independence. This means China and Taiwan must agree to peaceful means of reunification. The US will not back down to CCP threats and turn our back on an 40 year ally. Would you defend a friend being beaten up in front of you?
