Not gunna lie- I died! XD Reminds me of the time when I cosplayed Beedrill (from pkmn) and had to try and buzz my way through the dealers room- with OUT smacking someone with my bug wings. XD Ahhhh.....not fun. -_-;
You spend months making this AMAZING get-up, accurate to a T, and like nothing the con has ever seen... and then you put it on and realize you forgot you have to actually SURVIVE in it for a day.
Oh cosplay: you make fools of us all, no matter how incredible we look.
I've seen wing's like this but the collaspe into a small backpack, they were selling them for about 175$ , they are plastic framed really nicely made, an they have a perfect arch in the back. these look sorta bulky but the style looked good.
I'm going to be making 6-7 foot tall wings for my Abel Crusnik form. Working out its mechanics on being able to have them down, or up, as well as giving them the ability to be broken down into 3 segments to fit into a car. The whole cosplay won't be done until around 2012. My friend will be Esther-she's a metal smith and will make all of our metal parts ^^
@ToxikElement2 Let me recommend NOT using metal as the frame for your wings. It will be very VERY heavy. Perhaps too heavy to carry, if they are 6-7 feet. Seriously. You don't want to use metal. Wood, PVC, pretty much anything but wood would be a lighter, cheaper option.
@tusense oh, sorry! She's just making the outfit metal parts, I didn't mean the metal for the frame for the wings XD No way in hell I'd use wood for them though. Too much chance of snapping or chipping. I plan on using PVC, because it can flex under weights and movements without damaging the structure and design as a whole.
@ToxikElement2 I made a Valus the Minotaur (Shadow of the Colossus) costume for Otakon one year. It involved making a headdress out of very light metal. Over all, it wasn't very heavy- 7-10 lbs as a bare bones structure. Then I added the nerf padding, the faux fur, the glow sticks, and the doll on top. Still not too bad- about 12 lbs.
Then I had to wear it for 10 hours straight, and suddenly it was hell. DON'T USE METAL IF YOU CAN AVOID IT!!
I just watched your tutorial and now watched this... can't you fold them further to make walking easier? I don't want to spend all this time, effort and money, making wings if they don't fold completely...
That being said, these wings, even if they were stationary, are beautiful. I would love to know where you got the idea to use the clothes drying rack. Thanks for the great tutorial and have a wonderful day.
@Ayng They do fold, but not completely. In this video, I was using a really awful harness that took away a lot of their folding ability. However, even when I improved the harness, they don't fold COMPLETELY shut. It is simply the bulk of the feathers. They can only bunch up so much before there just isn't more room for them to fold.
wow those wings were beautiful can you put how to videos up like a video how to make a code geass boys uniform because i need to know hot to make it so i can wear it to fanime you should go to fanime as a angel from dn angle that anime rocks thankyou checkersow
Ah, this brings back memories of sharing an elevator with a very confused elderly couple as I, Kel'Thuzad, wore a spiked skull mask and huge foam pauldrons.
This and your tutorial are really good and it's clear that you put a lot of effort this costume. It's great work.
I wonder if the real Van (provided there is one out there in the universe somewhere) would have a hard time riding in elevators with his wings out too? Just a thought. XD You did a great job with your cosplay! I love it.
You have a point there. It would make a for a funny fan fiction, though. Hmmm...in fact, maybe I'll tackle that one. Maybe I'll write about a day where Van can't put his wings back. That could be chapters of fan girl entertainment...hee hee
It would be a matter of making the frame differently. My frame (under the feathers) is two separate pieces. So each piece has a "bump." If you made your frame differently than mine, you could have no bumps at all.
thats cool im geting into cosplay soon and makeing my own costumes
[whan i get the money]ive allways whanted to have a black and white angel wing for a cosplay so cas of your vids i can now![i dont know aneyone who das thow...]so im going to do my cosplay of one of my favorite anime or game charactres with angel wings itll be awesome! so thanks!!
Uh, they're probably falling down a bit. The way the wings laid on them and stuff. Plus, I'm always a bit skinnier at cons then when I'm sewing at home so things don't fit as nicely
i made some bat wings for my friend for his costume. but we tied it to his body so they would stay still but he could not sit or bend over so he was standing for 6 hours it was so funny XD
I'd watch this before attempting to make said wings.. Thing of the pain and torture.. and trouble you have to go through.. But if the ends justify the means go to it!
Heh, great wings! I can't wait to have a pair! But, where did you get the feathers? Only place I know of is a craft store. BTW, any ideas on what to use other than a rack to make the wings fold?

natakuchan01 2 years ago 2
It would be a matter of making the frame differently. My frame (under the feathers) is two separate pieces. So each piece has a "bump." If you made your frame differently than mine, you could have no bumps at all.

Alright, thank you! I'll be sure to show you the end result!
natakuchan01 2 years ago
just use somwhat small but sturdy pvc piping connected by a "T" fitting. for just one "bump".

Weren't they meant to fold in? XD
Me and my friend Brian are gonna be doing Dark and Krad from D.N. Angel, that's two of use walking along with wings, tis gonna be hell :P

I wanted them to fold in more. But I found that when I put feathers on, they couldn't fold much without knocking off/crushing feathers.
