She is a wonderful person glad she makes the world a better place. If I had to spend the day with her I would be enriched. I would consider it an honor to spend the day with her and cherish the moment opening the door for her and kissing her on the cheek. But, people she aint that smart her poetry is elementary at best. IF YOU THINK OF THIS WOMAN AS A DEEP PHILOSOPHICAL MIND YOUR CRAZY If Oprah hadn't transformed the country in buying into a delusion of emotion MA would be frying potatoes
@stevemtc1: Writing that "...she aint that smart..." says much about your writing and grammatical skills. The allure of Maya Angelou is the wisdom that she expresses through her writing, which is completely different (and alien to) the deep philosophers that you may prefer. The value of wisdom is greater than intelligence because, it is applied intelligence as opposed to knowledge and theory to no end. If America placed greater value on wisdom we wouldn't have most of our present policy issues.
@summerbunny612 hey Dumb Ass you a typical whiner who art as well as education is wasted on. First of all, in writing you can say what you want to I know the word "aint " isn't proper Dip Shit. I don't really care. You on the other hand know I'm correct because you cant argue that her poetry is better than intelligence because "its applied.". Applied to what? Has her poetry built buildings or cured a disease or built a controlled climate to keep us from getting sick? Nooooooooooo!!!!
@stevemtc1 Thanks for confirming that you're just another Youtube loser whose a product of the failed US education system. First, get yourself enrolled in some remedial classes and think about a degree program before you write anything else. And no online college either. Second, from what I could decipher in your rant you concluded that I don't know what art is, yet you're the one who initially criticized Angelou. She was known way before Oprah, the Clinton's, & your parent's conception of you.
@summerbunny612 I must add, that America has added value to this so called wisdom you speak of and it has resulted in endless prattle and an unskilled populace. But I will say this she is the sweetest thing and I love her but she is selling BLUE SKY! With out Oprah and the Clintons she a fry cook.
@stevemtc1 Words of wisdom: spend better use of your time than bashing an 80 year old writer and civil rights icon. As the unskilled populace that you talk about is due to people like you wasting considerable time online. The fact that you posted this at 2am Sunday morning said much about your Saturday night...
@summerbunny612 The failed U S education system is partially credited towards these people who write so called literature. Instead of studying ways to advance science or infrastructure the students are subjugated to these dumb-down poets who would be better served as fry cooks. She is an illusion of talent. Besides what difference does it make when I posted this I was out on Sat.night and came home checked my e-mails as I frequently do thanks to those like Steve Jobs not Maya Angelou
@everyonesnose I may have over-stated the Oprah point but anybody's grandmother can do the same thing there is nothing different than her and yours and my grandmother shes not any smarter or more intellectual than our parents Im sure your grandmother had just as or even better poetry but they weren't made famous because. My 4th cousin should be just as famous he sliced potatoes and put them in a bag it became Lays Potato Chips. Now if you have poetry thats good but hers doesn't rank
I am very amazed with the out reach of people with such negotive words toward this lady she is Icon.. A legend to not only people of color but people with grace this is very unsettleing to see such low words from people that apparently do not even know theirselves..I wrap a arm of prayer around people that first need to seek their hurt within themselves my your higher power be with you.
Every time I here her speak ......she touches my heart .......she is an inspiration for us women who sometimes think there is no end to your sorrows .......she make us know that their is a silver lining behind every dark cloud..........just have faith.....
Words can't express how much I LOVE AND RESPECT this BEAUTIFUL, WISE, COURAGEOUS AND GRACIOUS LADY!!!...Vinaka vakalevu, mahalo plenty and thank you very much Ms Angelou.
Words can't express how much I LOVE AND RESPECT this BEAUTIFUL, WISE, COURAGEOUS AND GRACIOUS LADY!!!...Vinaka vakalevu, mahalo plenty and thank you very much Ms Angelou.
@robbooey It's clear her teaching and knwoledge is beyond you, since you are hooked up on the colour of her skin. So I suggest you find something better to do with your time if her existence is such an affront to your holier than thou being. Ignorant prick.
Watch here on YT the BBC Documentary, 'Guinea Pig Kids' & see how Dr's, Big Pharma & The City of NY treat poor, black & hispanic foster kids who are HIV positive. After viewing, please write Mayor Bloomburg & tell him this Nazi Genocide must stop!

I have found comfort in Maya's words, at a time in my life I needed it most. As a mother of two BEUATIFUL youngs girls, I know they give me the strengh to keep my head held high and be their rock. My girls are my reason to live. Thank You so much Maya Angelou.
This book is good but at the same time it contradicts her earlier book "Caged Bird" It left me confused and sort of felt lied to. In IKWTCBS she tells of her son's imaculate coneption (metaphorically speaking) and how she wanted to see what sex was... She said she found a random boy she knew while walking down the street if he wanted to have sex and he was shocked and his mouth dropped open, etc... But in this book she says he called her and asked and she said yes after months of him asking her.
Its so important for women to have a strong figure to offer their support and thats exactly what this video has done for me. She has spoken words into my heart and i will definately share this with my youth group so powerful. Thank you Dr. Maya Angelou for being such a beautiful person
the book was the Awsome shes a big insporation the book is great i am 15 and i can totaly relate to the book one part of it was shocking maya told her step father and her mom somthing were normaly parent would be mad but they were com and i was like WHAT!!! your sopose to be mad over all i relate to every page. AWSOME BOOK!!!!!!!!
How touching, Dr Maya Angelou is a very humble courageous woman my only wish in life beside having a child is to meet this wonderful, phenomenal woman.
Listen carefully to the video again, Dr Angelou states her new book entitled "Letter to My Daughter" contains a few poems.
But you said the secret poet writing on her behalf, is now dead yet he got his poetry into Dr Angelous book?
You have something in common with this Great Lady. Dr Angelou says in this video that she had people in her life who meant her ill and unfortunately you do to.
Listen and learn, decide 4 yourself in u believe all half or any of it.
I heard that Maya's words were actually written by a white poet who knew the poems wouldn't have the same affect if people knew he was behind the words. So he hire Maya to read his poems. Then when Maya got famous, rumor has it that she hired a team of assassins to make him disappear. I hope it's not true.
Does an evil person talk of love? Does an evil person hope for humanity and believe that we can be better than what we are? the answer is no. you're story, while interesting is false.
she is very inspirational and all of her accolades are deserving and her body of work is just amazing purchase all for her books love them all love you maya
I'm sorry, but the media's game is to select a few "darlings" and proceed to over-hype these chosen few with little regard to actual talent. This is a perfect case in point. Britney Spears is a far greater poet than Maya Angelou. So why doesn't the media give Britney the respect they give this "poet"? Take any Britney song and dissect the lyrics next to an Angelou poem...you'll be just as angry as I am.
I consider you one of my mothers in a bigger and general way. Your sensibility crosses every race and gender. A life well lived must be honored and I honor your life and wisdom with mine. You have been a source of inspiration and I hope to pass this admiration on to the younger generation of Hispanic and American women in my family . Glod has bleessed you, which is to say, you have made your life a blessing to many.

@stevemtc1 ahh, she was famous before Oprah actually,
she was a poet during the civil rights movement and
was simply asked to write a book.
She was a fry cook in her teens to support her children...
So what im trying to say is that... Oprah had nothing to do with her being a poet.
and yes, her poetry isn't sophisticated as her peers,
but that's what makes her style so inspiring and interesting.
