Oh god, I can't believe I cried on this ride LOL! it was going up that scared me the most. It was only a few years ago when I was 13, hopefully this year or the next I'll lap up some courage and go on this. I'm not much for rollercoasters, but the woody wood pecker coaster in universal will probably be the only one I ride, and that coaster Is for kids! :P

I have never been on this ride but it looks really fun!!i think this drop is way smaller than splash mountain... splash mountain is fun nd all but it says "you will get soaked" but u hardly ever get wet on splash mountain!!!!! i think this drop is like 75 feet jurassic park is 85 feet ,i am soooo gonna ride this!! i go on, im also going to the gaylord palms ice on x-mas night my cuzins r going to yay i LOVE DISNEY WORLD ND IOA ND USH I CANT WAT TO GO!!!!!! only 7 more days!!!!!!!

I like rides with plot though if they are going to have animatronics. Ones like this where animatronics are few and far apart always seem to bore me, thanks goodness for the drop. But similar ones like Pirates of the Carbbiean do the same with no exciting twist. Its literally 4 minutes of a dark ride filled with pirate animatronics all yelling things at the same time that you cant understand.

I have to disagree. Unless you only like rides with thrill, than this doesn't apply to you. Splash Mountain is one of the best rides there. The animatronics are great and the ride doesn't even need the drop at the end. Same with Pirates of the Caribbean. It's so well done that a lack of excitement doesn't matter.

The only really interesting part of pirates is the new things they have put in. But still there a re problems. Im not sure if you're local, but after riding pirates a lot, you notice some stuff. For one...the 1970's animatronics are horibbly out of date. And again, even with the new animatronics, you can hardly hear what they are saying. Now Spaceship Earth's new animatronics, those things are incredible. Once those replace everything, Disney will be highly updated.

I would have agreed about the sound system -- until a couple of years ago, when it was renovated. I noticed a 200% difference since the change. "Pirates" is still, hands down, the best dark ride in the world.

It definately is a lot better now, and is the best dark ride. Yet even with the renovations there are still points where its hard to understand what is being said. At the end of the ride for example, Jack sparrow is sitting in the treasure room. I understand sometimes he is singing with the song, but when he stops singing and talks, the song plays over him and I cannot understand...and then the ride is over.

While its a better ending than the bankers being tied up and the drunken pirates repetedly shooting a barrel that magically somehow clogs back up and then re-leaks again, it still is an awkward finish to the ride. Disney's a great place, but its sound systems could stand some tweaks, Carrousel of progress for example. The music is much to lous and the voices in the side rooms that light up cant be understood. Lol this topic has really got me talking X-D lets keep discussing, I'm enjoying it.

Sound is such a tricky process, especially when you're in a room competing against a lot of ambient noise. It's an art form, really. I am surprised there aren't speakers closer to the boats themselves so Jack Sparrow is a lot clearer. The first "Pirates" is really a hodge-podge of ideas based on space available. I would *love* to visit Disneyland Paris where the scenes are shown in logical order. Someday...

Ah yes, as would I. And it is true sound is an art form. But as you said, if any one should be able to pull it off, it's disney. The sound systems throughout the walkways of the parks are phenominal, as they are positiones just right so you can hear anything happening from anywhere they want you too. It just seems if your going to put the effort to redo a ride, you might bring it into the 21st century...and eventually the 22nd. Speaking of renovation, I'm curious about the WDW space mountain job

I know at Disneyland the sound system at Space Mountain was built into a seat itself -- a common solution for rides with head rests up near ear level. I did notice a HUGE difference at Pirates in the cave (right after the waterfall), with such a large space were sound would normally diffuse. I almost wonder if Sparrow's voice is soft on purpose for some reason...or I'm giving them too much credit. ;)

the rides are open but I have to say there is absolutely no way of staying dry on these water rides at Islands of Adventure. Popeye and Bluto's Bilge Rat Barges and this ride will soak you head to toe. I have to say Jurassic Park River Adventure doesn't get you as wet

In the busier seasons, they alternate tracks. One boat goes down one track, it switches, and the second boat goes down the opposite track. You can see the track switch from the front of the log. At least, that's how it was when I went last summer
