Because it is a powerful tool to make vulnerable people commit horrible crimes (or cooperate/tolerate those crimes). Did "Rome" believe in the dark ages? Or did they just use the religion to gain power and wealth? Spirituality itself may be harmless; religion easily becomes this dangerous tool, because that's its very structure.

"Striving for a religion-free utopia" has nothing to do with atheism. Atheism is a title I find myself with when I'm confronted with theistic claims. I don't like the title, but because I don't accept claims that are leagues away from even coming close to meeting their burden of proof. I am suddenly an atheist.
It is a REJECTION of claims and beliefs. I can't therefore apply atheism to anything. Can't set about doing anything in the name of it.

He was also illustrating what would become a harmonious tradition in the lives of believers: church service. It is frustrating to not have proof, but God literally only wants children who believe in Him and truly love Him. @garyzenuf I have often wondered that myself, but through research and talking historians that have a good grasp of the social life of people in that day and age and a couple of reasons result: mainly though, God wanted to illustrate that those who have not seen Him and yet believe are blessed (John 20:29). Jesus knew there would be people in the world that will not believe and will make life harder for those who do believe. It's the only religion that I know about that takes care of that issue

They are easy to spot: they really hostile, very quickly and sometimes they even make threats... as for evidence that God Exists that cannot be done. You can't become faithful after viewing proof-- it break logic. The amount of faith you have is important as well: Jesus showed this many times and for a brief period shared his powers.

@garyzenuf The same with me: although I am a believer I do work with our local atheist group to help new de-converted Christians make the adjustment. As far as atheist that want to eradicate religion they are "anti-theists" and I rarely see them in public, but YouTube is swamped with them. Both Richard Dawkins and Christopher Hitches" claim they are anti-theists; however Dawkins has backed off and now is starting to agree that religion does serve a good purpose (but it is still a myth).

Now I feel bad about my reply. I wish I had his integrity, humidity and respect for all humans, so hard not to degrate, think less of people "I" percieve as "stupid" and ignorant.

Two things Anti-Christ atheists: 1) Are you of the opinion that we should not allow prison inmates to have religion? I mean, you want to wipe it out completely-- prison would be a good start.2) Lets consider this hypothetical situation: Christianity is right and you are now before the Great White Throne and after Jesus declares that your name is not in the Book of Life "Would you like to share any last worlds?" What would you tell your Creator?"
