Sims3 and every sims series is out for mac. Also macbook pros got really powerful with Corei7 processors, Radeon HD 6750M with 1GB GDDR5, up to 16gb of ram on macbook pros. Considering how fast macbook pros are they are also really thin although Hp's envy 17 is a big competitor with mbps.

Gta 4 won't play well at many pc's. Only the high-ends. And next year there will be a new super awesome game that today high-end pc's won't handle. So my advice is to not buy a pc for a game. There's consoles for that. They have a longer life cycle.

I'm hav a Mac and love it, but I'm a realist. There are FAR less games you can play on macs, and you cannot customize macs to improve graphics etc. But the games DO run very smoothly compared to the average windows computer. AND the few games that ARE out are very good, eg WoW, EVE, CoD4, Blizzard games, EA games. Macs arent for everyone, but they can't be ignored.
As someone who uses both a Mac and a PC, I find that Macs just do not run games as well as a PC does. I'm not talking about low-res games like World of Warcraft or EVE Online, but games like Team Fortress 2 or Bioshock, games where little imperfections become significant issues.
Hehe, you can play all PC games on a Mac. Install Seven on it. There's not even much reorientation needed - allmost all the stuff you're used to from OS-X and so on is on Seven. The only thing you might want to get is a mouse with more than just one button...

Definitely Macs can play a lot of games nowadays, and I don't mean just the old ones or simple games too. The notion that because there are more games for the PC than Macs, that PCs game "better" is just an illusion. PC's don't necessarily game better, they just game "more" and that's a very big difference.
They game better, you have to play games on OS X usually under a VM, Windows users, can play it right after installation, we don't need to load up a VM.
From what I searched, the ratio of games for Windows, and games for OS X, is like 5 Windows games to every 1 OS X game, b/c most games are made with the DirectX emulation, which OS X doesn't support, because OS X uses OpenGL emulation, but according to what I have read MS may release a version of DirectX for OS X, but it's not set in stone yet.
Well, if we're talking about comparative ratio, then it's obviously a big ratio. But when you look at the actual numbers, that's quite a lot of games for the Mac. Again it's what I said earlier that PCs game "more". DirectX is no surprisingly a proprietary of M$, where as OpenGL is more open to many platforms. Unfortunately, most game companies developing for Windows are usually given M$ "incentives" in exchange to not develop games for other platforms, such is the way of monopoly.
Yea, and OpenGL tends to not perform as well, as DirectX Games, when they get into high detail, and when it comes to games, I like high detailed games, that perform well, and DirectX is the ticket.
DirectX was nothing more than to inject M$'s monopolistic foothold in to the market. OpenGL is actually much better and can perform just as well as DirectX, and even in cases, better.
OpenGL, being open source (surprise surprise) is less resource-intensive than DirectX as well as taking less time and space to develop games in Open GL than it does in DirectX.
PC means personal computer. Which mean's it's used for Work, Play, Home, Entertainment or anything else by the user and for the user.

Linux is generally a very lightweight OS so your computer would put forth less performance towards the OS and it would put more performance into your game.
Vista is a much more demanding OS than XP and that is why System requirements are higher on Vista than XP for gaming.
You *can* play rich games on Linux and OS X. Have you heard of WINE? (Yes, in full caps.) It's a non-emulator CPU instructions converter (AKA Windows program converter) that can "translate" a Windows app to work with the Linux kernel.
It rocks. Except the DX10 stuff (support coming soon), it runs a lot of games perfectly. WoW, Spore, and others.

The MacPro doesn't use desktop components, they use server components. The logicboard is a custom design, the CPU's are Xeons, which are server CPU's, the RAM is Fully Buffered and ECC. They're workstations. Many people are throwing the MacPro around and comparing it to a gaming rig. You don't buy a server for gaming, they're both made for different tasks and do what they're made for well, but try doing the other thing on them and you'll be dissapointed.

ok source engine is like 4 years old. cry engine 2 is a year old. warhead is better written. Have you even played crysis? the graffics are better than half life two on medium. dont get me wrong, half life 2 is the greatest game ever, and its one of my favorites, but it cant be compared to crysis visually.
If pystar gets away with what they are doing, Windows may be in big trouble because you will be able to make a custom build for OSX. It would most likely be a 44%-44% market or even 70%-28% because I think a lot of businesses will still use windows XP and maybe 7 and what ever comes next.
We will have to wait and see if pystar gets them the change the user agreement. If so I can't want. I'm not they type to buy OEM computers. I like the build them myself.
What are you talking about PC has TONS more games than consoles. Now just about every game that comes out on Xbox also comes out on PC, the good ones anyway. PCs also have the best single plat games, and are more fun to play on the PC. As for Mac you have bootcamp but don't think your going to be able to play a lot of the new games with the HD 2400-2600 and 8800GS on the iMacs. If you get the iMac with the 8800 you may as well have gotten a MacPro you'll be much better of imo.

If you Dont over clock, AMD is the way to go. AMDs new Phenom 2s however can be over clocked to 4ghz on air and 6ghz on N2O. They still are not as fast as Core i7s but soon as they have AM3 sockets that may change.
As for PSUs I always use a 700w so if you ever want to add a 2nd video card, more HDDs etc to you system. That dont cost much more so why not right? Ive been using my OCZ 700w PSU for 2 or 3 years now in a few PCs, love it
No, the old Phenom 9950 BE was faster than the Q6600 when not over clocked "info from toms hardwere" The reason people say intels are much faster than is because you can over clock the crap out of them.

From what I searched, the ratio of games for Windows, and games for OS X, is like 5 Windows games to every 1 OS X game, b/c most games are made with the DirectX emulation, which OS X doesn't support, because OS X uses OpenGL emulation, but according to what I have read MS may release a version of DirectX for OS X, but it's not set in stone yet.

Well, if we're talking about comparative ratio, then it's obviously a big ratio. But when you look at the actual numbers, that's quite a lot of games for the Mac. Again it's what I said earlier that PCs game "more". DirectX is no surprisingly a proprietary of M$, where as OpenGL is more open to many platforms. Unfortunately, most game companies developing for Windows are usually given M$ "incentives" in exchange to not develop games for other platforms, such is the way of monopoly.

Yea, and OpenGL tends to not perform as well, as DirectX Games, when they get into high detail, and when it comes to games, I like high detailed games, that perform well, and DirectX is the ticket.

DirectX was nothing more than to inject M$'s monopolistic foothold in to the market. OpenGL is actually much better and can perform just as well as DirectX, and even in cases, better.
OpenGL, being open source (surprise surprise) is less resource-intensive than DirectX as well as taking less time and space to develop games in Open GL than it does in DirectX.

I like the concept of multi-platform games.
One of the main reasons that I use windows, other than compatibility, is the fact that you can play games on windows.
I would love for there to be more Linux games.
Linux is generally a very lightweight OS so your computer would put forth less performance towards the OS and it would put more performance into your game.
Vista is a much more demanding OS than XP and that is why System requirements are higher on Vista than XP for gaming.

You *can* play rich games on Linux and OS X. Have you heard of WINE? (Yes, in full caps.) It's a non-emulator CPU instructions converter (AKA Windows program converter) that can "translate" a Windows app to work with the Linux kernel.
It rocks. Except the DX10 stuff (support coming soon), it runs a lot of games perfectly. WoW, Spore, and others.

The MacPro doesn't use desktop components, they use server components. The logicboard is a custom design, the CPU's are Xeons, which are server CPU's, the RAM is Fully Buffered and ECC. They're workstations. Many people are throwing the MacPro around and comparing it to a gaming rig. You don't buy a server for gaming, they're both made for different tasks and do what they're made for well, but try doing the other thing on them and you'll be dissapointed.

Cant replace a Video card and CPU on a iMac. Can you over clock? With games you only need 2gb of ram, even in vista.
Eve is old and you dont need a big GPU to run it on high, thats why they make it for mac
Your not able to run crysis at good FPS on low with a HD2600.
If all you do is game/web why would you buy a Mac when a more powerful custom build PC is cheaper and you can overclock when its outdated. I've not nothing against Macs but they are not made for gaming, yet.

Its all a matter of code, not a matter of hardware.

If pystar gets away with what they are doing, Windows may be in big trouble because you will be able to make a custom build for OSX. It would most likely be a 44%-44% market or even 70%-28% because I think a lot of businesses will still use windows XP and maybe 7 and what ever comes next.

What are you talking about PC has TONS more games than consoles. Now just about every game that comes out on Xbox also comes out on PC, the good ones anyway. PCs also have the best single plat games, and are more fun to play on the PC. As for Mac you have bootcamp but don't think your going to be able to play a lot of the new games with the HD 2400-2600 and 8800GS on the iMacs. If you get the iMac with the 8800 you may as well have gotten a MacPro you'll be much better of imo.

If you Dont over clock, AMD is the way to go. AMDs new Phenom 2s however can be over clocked to 4ghz on air and 6ghz on N2O. They still are not as fast as Core i7s but soon as they have AM3 sockets that may change.
As for PSUs I always use a 700w so if you ever want to add a 2nd video card, more HDDs etc to you system. That dont cost much more so why not right? Ive been using my OCZ 700w PSU for 2 or 3 years now in a few PCs, love it

No, the old Phenom 9950 BE was faster than the Q6600 when not over clocked "info from toms hardwere" The reason people say intels are much faster than is because you can over clock the crap out of them.
You can look at ghz and say "this CPU is faster" any more. The benchmarks are what matter
