If you have a point to make about "loving God with your whole heart, soul and mind" and it's connection to the 10 Commandments - make it.
Now - are your referring to the 10 Commandments of the OT or Commandments of the NT? They are different.
Also, understand that if you are talking about the Sabbath of the OT as it relates to the Hebrews, you need to understand that it was forbidden for a non-Jew to follow the Sabbath unless they were circumcised - the penalty was death.
After Jesus fulfilled the law there's a new creation in Christ (2 Cor 5:17)
Jesus says to "keep MY commandments."
He is asked "which ones?" (Matt 19:17-19) and he lists 6 (the last one being the 2nd of the new commandments): not kill, steal, lie, adultery, honor father & mother, love neighbor as thyself.
In Matt 22:34-40 he lists the NEW most important commandment & 2nd new one.
Thru-out the NT he re-affirms: no other gods, God's name in vain, covet & lust - BUT MISSING is SABBATH.
Therefore Sabbath (with a capital "S") being the ceremonial Hebrew day remained Saturday and belonged to the Jews. (For any non-Jew that was not circumcised - for him to follow the Sabbath - was punishable by death.) Because, as Paul explained, circumcision was replaced by baptism and the Gentiles were not circumcised - they couldn't follow the Hebrew law if they wanted to.
Regarding sabbath (small 's') which means day of rest Heb 4:9 - that is the Lord's Day and is Sunday worship.
You can read the comments by the Early Church Fathers online or a book thru Amazon. These folks are the 1st & 2 C people who were taught by the apostles.
They are not considered divinely inspired - but their comments make it obvious that for Christians, from the very beginning, only Sunday was the official weekly day of worship (never Saturday). No "change" was made at the Council of Laodicea - but rather, the common practice was upheld.
The Sabbath is a reunion between Israel and God, as it is said, `It is a sign between Me and the children of Israel' (Ex. 31:17); therefore any non-Jew who, being uncircumcised, thrusts himself between them incurs the penalty of death.... The Gentiles have not been commanded to observe the Sabbath'' (Midrash Deuteronomy Rabbah 1:21 [Soncino ed., pp. 23-4], as quoted in Maxwell and Damsteegt, p. 75).
Baptism replaced circumcision was the covenant with God (Col 2:11) - how would this be possible if the law of the Sabbath required the Gentiles to still be circumcised?
Mark 2:27 "The sabbath was made for man, NOT man for the sabbath. Because Jesus is Lord of the sabbath (Matt 12:8) he can do with it as he will...the sabbath (the day of rest) is for us FROM God. We now rest -- not in a day -- but in Christ.
Further evidence of the antiquity of this rabbinic understanding comes from the second-century B.C. book ofJubilees:
``The Creator of all blessed it, but he did not sanctify any people or nations to keep the Sabbath thereon with the sole exception of Israel. He granted to them alone that they might eat and drink and keep the Sabbath thereon upon the earth'' (Jubilees 2:31, James Charlesworth, ed., The Old Testament Pseudepigrapha, [New York: Doubleday, 1985], vol. 2, p. 58).
@fetalbetal: evolution explains HOW biological life began and not WHO made that happen. If you feel that your consciousness is greater than your physical body, then that is your connection to an even greater spiritual Being who made all things happen.
How do you know it's a question of WHO, I think it's a question of WHAT made us. Science shows us that we are the remnants of supernovas.. our bodies and this solar system.. that makes more sense to me, and I find it to be a more beautiful explanation. There's no reason to think there's life after death, I value my life because of this. Now my question is, do you think every non-believer deserves to burn eternally? How can you respect a god that says "believe in me or burn forever" ? I'm curious
I'm just here to respond to my comments, I'm not sure why I stopped on this page in the first place, but I guess I'm just looking to debate the existence of god and the worth of religion. I mean no disrespect and understand if this isn't the right place to talk about these things.
I was raised catholic but feel as if there couldn't possibly be a god. The arguments for evolution are too strong and if there was a god wouldn't that mean he's "testing our faith", why would a perfect god need to do these things and why should I burn eternally for not believing he exists?
If you feel your faith is faltering or are having trouble believing, check out one of these two books. They'll give you a great perspective. They are really cheap used or see if your library has them. I hope you find your faith again! God bless.

Are you serious, when did the RCC get her traditions? Way after the new testament was written. Remember, the NT did not come from any tradition. Most of the RCC's traditions are pagan. Example, sunday worship, Christmas, easter, all saints day, go and read your church history and prove wrong. The church are all true christians around the world not an organization or an organize religion.
The New Testament came from the oral traditions of the Apostles. They were the first Bishops of Christ's body -- the Church. (No need for the Roman Catholic label then as there were no 'denominations'.)
Who decided which books were to be included in the Canon? The Church (ie Catholic Church) dicided that with divine inspiration and authority. This is all based on Tradition. Tradition and Scripture are equal.
The sabbath was abolished by Col 2:16. You see Paul worshiping on Sunday, the first day, in Acts 20:7
NO Apostle or disciple ever followed the sabbath after this. The verse Col 2:16 actually abolished the Mosaic laws - that would've included the Decalog (10 commandments) - however Christ, being Lord of the sabbath (Matt 12:8), re-affirmed the Decalog, ALL except the sabbath. After this, you will not see any Christian following the sabbath in the NT. Christ also added new commandments.
Do you really study? Read the OT there was sabbath keeping and the law before any Jew was born. Gen 26:5 Exo 16:28 Way before the Ten commandments GOD spoke of the sabbath 2500 years before any Jew was born. Christians kept the sabbath until 321ad. Mttw 22:40
On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. On which two laws of Christ hang the whole Law. And which Law is Christ speaking of.
Are you sure you study? If you had read Hosea 2 starting at the first verse you would not have taking that one verse out of context. It is not speaking of the GOD'S sabbath. Nor is He speaking to the children of Israel. You did not answer my question in my last text, i feel you are ditching the question. What whole law hangs on the two "NEW" law. Love the LORD and love your NEIGHBOR as yourself. Are you going to answer the question or ditch it again?
"[T]hose who were brought up in the ancient order of things have come to the possession of a new hope, no longer observing the Sabbath, but living in the observance of the Lords day..." (Letter to the Magnesians 8 [A.D. 110]).
"But Sunday is the day on which we all hold our common assembly, because it is the first day on which God... made the world; and Jesus Christ our Savior on the same day rose from the dead" (First Apology 67 [A.D. 155]).
One place in the bible that says "Lord's Day". From Gen what day is the Lord's Day. We as Christians know one day as the Lord's Day the saturday sabbath. There is no evidence what so ever the John was refering to Sunday. NONE. In Col 2:16 he is speaking not of the seventh day sabbath but of the others.
Try and find any Christian who followed Saturday Sabbath after the resurrection. The only group were the Judaizers, which were the Jewish converts. They wanted to keep the Mosaic laws but Paul admonished them - shown by Col 2:16).
No Christian ever followed the Hebrew's Saturday Sabbath.
The only thing that happened in the 300's was that the Sunday worship of the Lord's Day was UPHELD.
To get real quotes from 1st & 2nd C. - go to Amazon and order "The Early Church Fathers." These are quotes from the people who studied under the Apostles.
Some quotes:
"We keep the eighth day [Sunday] with joyfulness, the day also on which Jesus rose again from the dead" (Letter of Barnabas 15:68 [A.D. 74]).
"Of course the Catholic Church claims that the change (Saturday Sabbath to Sunday) was her act... And the act is a MARK of her ecclesiastical authority in religious things." H.F. Thomas, Chancellor of Cardinal Gibbons. Nov. 11, 1895
"Sunday is our MARK or authority. . .the church is above the Bible, and this transference of Sabbath observance is proof of that fact" Catholic Record of London, Ontario Sept 1,1923.
I realize you disagree with what the Apostles did but regardless, they had the Holy Spirit descend on them - they were inspired and worshiped on Sundays.
This is how it has always been. If you do find a group of Christians in the 1st & 2nd C, other than the Judaizers, that worshiped on Saturday - please let me know. Thanks.
You ditch the question. I know way you did. Because you do not want to admit that Christ was speaking of the Ten Commandments. Where you aware that the RCC Murdered hundreds for Keeping the seventh day Sabbath.
"This zeal for Saturday-keeping continued for a long time: even little things which might strengthen the practice of keeping Saturday were punished." - Bishop Anjou, Svenska Kirkans Historia after Motet i Upsala.
People were murdered & burnt By the RCC. Did Christ command that.
I didn't ditch the question - Jesus re-affirmed all the Commandments, plus more - but NOT the sabbath. I didn't see the relevancy of your question - that is why I didn't answer it.
And thousands of Catholics were killed by Protestants and Communists. What's your point?
(By the way - what time period is this quote from Bishop Anjou - what historical data can you direct me to - I'm not getting any hits.)
There are other examples of prophet that were totally wrong. This is a human do not forget that. Do not attack E.G White. Am not even seven day adventist. And that's the GOD truth. If i was i would say it, what can man do to me? Kill my body? You ditch my Question. Please explain Christ's new law and tell me how it is not the ten Commandments.
Nathan gave his opinion out of good intentions - BUT when a prophet speaks "thus sayeth the Lord" it must be correct.
Ellen White, to give her the benefit of the doubt, had good intentions. But to say she was wrong once is laughable.
When she declared the central doctrine was about a particular day of worship and built a church around it -- this would fall under the "thus sayeth the Lord" category.
So what does making the sign of the cross do for anyone? Jesus said out of your bellies shall flow rivers of living waterJohn7:38. This phenomena does not happen while making the sign of the cross. Show me where in the bible GOD change the LAW.
The bible clearly says the sabbath was made for MAN. It never ever said anywhere in the bible that the sabbath was for jews only.
The sabbath was established in eden, when now jew was even born. Study.

THE HEBREW LAW re: Sabbath:
The Sabbath is a reunion between Israel and God, as it is said, `It is a sign between Me and the children of Israel' (Ex. 31:17); therefore any non-Jew who, being uncircumcised, thrusts himself between them incurs the penalty of death.... Bozie09,
Reason your way through it:
Baptism replaced circumcision was the covenant with God (Col 2:11) - how would this be possible if the law of the Sabbath required the Gentiles to still be circumcised?

Jesus was both cirumcised and baptised. The best of both worlds.
He taught in the temple (Rabbi) and founded a new religion.
The Lord thy God is one God.

Change of the Mosaic Laws: Col 2:16
Mark 2:27 "The sabbath was made for man, NOT man for the sabbath. Because Jesus is Lord of the sabbath (Matt 12:8) he can do with it as he will...the sabbath (the day of rest) is for us FROM God. We now rest -- not in a day -- but in Christ.

charis128 2 years ago
Bozie09,
Although the blessing of the seventh day is recorded in Gen 2:1-3 (at the conclusion of creation week) only God experiences sabbath rest (Gen 2:2-3).
God issues NO command for observance until the time of Moses in the desert. (Ex. 16).
Ex. 31:13 - Israelites were to keep the sabbath - not universal. They were chosen and sanctified.
Neh 9:14 - the Sabbath is made known (this makes it a ceremonial law)
John 7:22 Jesus describes the sabbath day as Mosaic law.

The first bible was 420 AD. Prior to that was only oral tradition - and it IS biblical:
2 Thess. 2:14: Therefore, brethren, stand fast; and hold the traditions which you have learned, whether by word, or by our epistle.
"Katholike" was how the church of Christ was referred to in the 1st C. as shown by St. Ignatius' ltr to the Smyrnaeans written about 110:
Wheresoever the bishop shall appear, there let the people be, even as where Jesus may be, there is the universal (katholike) church.

Matt 16:18-19 "Upon this rock I will build my Church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it"
What is the pillar and foundation of truth? The Church. 1 Tim 3:15

Christ also added new commandments.
charis128 2 years ago
Christ said "follow MY commandments", which many people think is the Decalog of Exodus - but it is not.
Christ chose which we were to follow, and added new ones. We must refer to the NT to see what these are.
The only one missing, however, is the only commandment that was ceremonial: sabbath.
The Sabbath has remained Saturday, a day for the Hebrews. Christians worship the LORD'S DAY, per Psalms 118:24 & Rev 1:10

Bozie09 - I really study.
The OT prophecy ending sabbath: Hosea 2:11
And I will cause all her mirth to cease, her solemnities, her new moons, her sabbaths, and all her festival times.
The end: Col 2:16 - Let no man therefore judge you in meat or in drink, or in respect of a festival day, or of the new moon, or of the sabbaths.
No Apostle kept the sabbaths, nor any disciple that followed.

Bozie09:
More quotes:
Ignatius of Antioch:

Bozie09,
Try and find any Christian who followed Saturday Sabbath after the resurrection.

Bozie09:

Did Christ command that.
bozie09 2 years ago

Please explain Christ's new law and tell me how it is not the ten Commandments.
bozie09 2 years ago
Regarding 7th Day Adventism - frankly Ellen White is not a true prophet as a true prophet must be 100% accurate and she failed miserably.
Also, Jesus Christ/God is not an Archangel.
Because of these things, I do not accept any documentation from SDA sources- please just real history from the 1st and 2nd C. Thanks.

2 Sa 7:2-5
2That the king said unto Nathan the prophet, See now, I dwell in an house of cedar, but the ark of God dwelleth within curtains.
3And Nathan said to the king, Go, do all that is in thine heart; for the LORD is with thee.
4And it came to pass that night, that the word of the LORD came unto Nathan, saying,
5Go and tell my servant David, Thus saith the LORD, Shalt thou build me an house for me to dwell in?
Nathan the prophet was wrong. Study your bible don't just read it.
bozie09 2 years ago
bozie09,
Nathan gave his opinion out of good intentions - BUT when a prophet speaks "thus sayeth the Lord" it must be correct.
Ellen White, to give her the benefit of the doubt, had good intentions. But to say she was wrong once is laughable.
When she declared the central doctrine was about a particular day of worship and built a church around it -- this would fall under the "thus sayeth the Lord" category.

"When she declared the central doctrine was about a particular day of worship and built a church around it"
LOL Look am not a SDA member. EGW has nothing to do with this. We or talking here of RCC.
