Very informative videos, too bad theres not place you can buy those containers here on Guam, very tropical island do beautiful but very limited in supplies. Thanks for the video.
remind me not to be smart alec with you....tossing all that stone around must mean good size muscles under those sweats. I'm interested in those grow tubs also.
Why do you have the irrigation pipe around the perimeter of the growbed? If you just had a pipe filling the growbed at any single point, wouldn't the water fill the entire bed evenly? It just seems like the extra pipe in the growbed is a unnecessary. Am I overlooking something?
@TheMontanahouse The irrigation pipe allows solid matter to be spread around the perimeter of the bed. all solids being pumped into the one spot can cause build up.
@pommyrooter Very much so. if you visit permaculture research institutes website and search the forums for aquaponics you will find lots of interesting discussions.
@akhenatn You don't have to use expanded clay, you can use many different types of rock media including things like river gravel, pea gravel, crushed basalt or blue metal.
7:05 can you explain to me the output of the expanded clay tank? Is one pipe inside of another, but the water comer over the larger pipe? I saw another video of aquaponics using auto siphon, but yours seems to be different.
Also, what pipe cutter are you using in this series?
Very interesting videos, I'm trying to find similar tanks here in Brazil to start my aquaponics with Tilapia! Thanks!
Its brilliant inovation you have going on here. As an experienced fish farmer from way back i wish i new of this,,,, it just make so much environmental sense
It saves more water and is more effective if you punch some holes in the bottom of the bag and filling it with water. Then just pore it in the system after your done that way you ensure and even and more consistent way to clean them pebbles . Good video thanks.
hello! question pls! how your system works? did your water flow continiusly in the growbed? 24-7 and how high the water in your growbed?......thanks! your system is the best!
AWESOME!!! My future wife and I want to set one of these up when we get some land in the country. My goal is to be able to live off the land 100% even in the winter. I also wish to make my own solar panels to save on energy costs. Especially with the way the economy is going these days.
I'm totally with you on that one! This is the future. Cities cannot sustain themselves, and we don't know where our food is coming from. This is the way to go!
Fascinating. What kind of fish do you have in those tanks? How fast do they grow? Do they self multiply or do you have to restock? Thanks for the answers!
The system shown at the start of this video has trout in it, there's just over 100 in there and they are between 300 and 400 grams at the moment. Take about 6 months to grow up to 500g.
Trout don't breed themselves but there are some species of fish that will breed in a tank.
SO after growth an extraction rate of 2 per week could be sustained with replenishment. Can you feed fish grain, or something you can grow in the system? How independent can you make the system? What book would you think a Yank like me could find in America to answer my questions and teach me how to size a system?

Say do algal blooms shutdown aquaponics like it would a hydroponic system?

Not at all.. Fish stocking density is balanced to the number of growbeds in a system
