  • These reviews are not "worthless." The only thing I would ding them on is that Larry is grabbing the gun rather than drawing it, and then equating his results with concealed carry.

Firing one-handed at a paper plate at five yards is a an excellent test. A lot more meaningful than shooting 1/5th second splits at an IDPA match.

Many rave about the 229, but usually shoot something else better.

  • I own and carry sig 229 regularly I also own glock 17 & 22 & 26 But this test comes down mainly to your first score speed of first shot if your not used to a guns sites you will do poorly testing the gun. I also own many other guns but like the sig due to design of hammer not sitting on firing pin, decocker, sites, mag release, accuracy even at 40-50yards, internal laser, stainless slide blackened Glocks a great gun but Sigs have much better features

  • my favorite gun.. i could have got that sig a score of 950

  • im stuck between a usp 9mm or a p220 45acp i like the power 45 but i like the control of the 9mm.

  • test are entirly based on shooter lol. That gun is one of the best, especially with DAK trigger. Real Quality

  • this looks like the weapons they carry on "NCIS" yes, I know they are actors, what is the difference between a 9 millimeter and a 40 caliber? thanks

  • thats the exact same sig p229 i have. same finish, caliber, generation and everything lol....nice vid

  • These reviews are rather useless. He fails to measure the MOST Important factor. It's Impossible. The Shooter.

  • Im going back to FPS Russia...

  • Larry potterfield is cool

  • Rather buy a sigg bottle

  • I picked up my 229 from a leo friend of mine for 600. I have a S&W M&P 357 and have yet to pick it back up after shooting the 229 in 357. Sig has definitely spoiled me, the S&W's are fantastic guns but I just like the sig better now.

  • damn he was all over the place with his shooting

  • @tastykak3s He is basically shooting from the hip, what do you expect?

  • sigs are the very best..

  • Check out my Sig E2 failing to fire out of the box. I've been a sig fan for years but common qc is down the tunes lately.

  • who shoots a gun one handed when you can use 2?

  • @Meatlooaf sometimes you won't have time or even won't have both hands available

  • @johnnyerston makes sence, but it takes just as long time for me to draw a gun to a twohanded position, as it does with a onehanded stance!

  • this is how i rate you! YOU FUCKING SUCK!!!!

  • Don't know if these "tests" really give this gun justice.

  • @warnerd14 Nah. This gun is worlds better than a glock.

  • @SupremeAmerican Cost might also be an issue, though, and GLOCKs are more cost-effective. Not only the pistols themselves, but also magazines. Most SIG/Sauer mags cost at least $50 a pop whereas GLOCK mags cost around $30-35. A new GLOCK, regardless of model, usually costs around $500-600 whereas a new SIG costs around $700-900. Yes, it's true - you get what you pay for - but some people (actually most people) are on a budget these days.

  • @IggyHazard For someone on a budget, 600 dollars is pretty laughable. On a real budget, the best route is a 9x18 Makarov. Just as reliable and accurate as a glock. Less magazine capacity, 7-12 rounds depending which model u get. And the 9x18 is pretty anemic, between 380 and 9mm. Standard factory loads are gonna be 95 grains at 1050 fps. Real compact little gun can slip into ur pocket no problem. similar to a PPK but with more punch than a 380. Can find them 150-200 in good condition.

  • @SupremeAmerican Interesting you should mention the Mak. I've been interested in that pistol for some time. Saw a used Polish P-64 at a gun shop last year. Same caliber, same compact dimensions, but I'd prefer the Mak.

    PM = 8-round single-stack.

    PMM = 12-round double-stack.

Note: What's your opinion of the SIG/Sauer P232 in .380?

  • @IggyHazard Cool, i just bought a PA-63. I have never handled or shot a p232, but I hear the p232 is excellent in quality. Looks kinda funny to me, i like the makky look better :p but i guess some people could acquire a taste. Don't much like the 380 though, their powrball is 70 grains at 1100 fps, while the 9x18 powrball is 70 grains at 1250 fps. And buffalo bore offers a 115 grain flat nose at 1050 fps which u could never expect from a 380. And 9x18 is 10 dollars a box - better for budget.

  • was he looking at the camera??

  • seems like he choked a bit on this 1

  • you can tell he's reading off a teleprompter

  • how can he shooot if he's cross eyed?

  • @fairfieldsBEST LOL! I really wish I hadn't been drinking coffee when I read that. I ended up damn near choking. Cheers Haha!!

  • @fairfieldsBEST He's cross-eyed because he shoots.

  • @fairfieldsBEST He sees both targets and aims for the middle. Honestly I think he should stick to SXS double shotguns.

  • Thank you eastofakron1 :)

  • I watched these tests and I got dumber. Larry, I like your store but your test is retarded.

  • how is it on the chart that the 40 S & W is placd as more powerful than the 45 ACP?

  • @eastofakron1 its not

  • The best handgun I ever shoot the SIG Sauer P229 40 S&W

  • Larry, you are a great guy and I buy stuff from you all the time. But you're a lowsy shot with that sig.

  • I wonder what was making Larry laugh so much...

  • This is not an objective test, all kind of personel factors may effect the results. And it is wrong to make advices about hanguns by taking the reference of the results of these tests.

  • @waterslager

one of the smartest comments I have ever read and I absolutely agree.

  • @eastofakron1 Thank you eastofakron1 :)

  • Respond to this video... Thank you eastofakron1 :)

  • old man with slow hand ........silly test

  • This is such a stupid test

  • The Glock 19 shot more accurately than the P229, take that Sig fanboys!

  • @Qasarean umm, this 229 was chambered for .40 s&w and the glock 19 was a 9mm so that means.... You're an idiot for comparing accuracy between two guns while using different cartridges and for believing that firing a gun with one hand shows true accuracy.

  • @Grav251 the p229 is chambered in either 9mm, .40 S&W, or .357 SIG. the glock 19 is the same in dimensions as the glock 23, only difference is that the glock 19 shoots 9mm and the glock 23 shoots .40 S&W. so no, i am right and you're the idiot. before you talk shit to other people, spend several years shooting and do your homework because you have no idea what you're talking about. better yet, put up some some videos of your own and quit being a noob

  • @Qasarean in his videos he shot the glock 19 in 9mm and he shot the 229 in .40. I know the 229 can be chambered in different calibers, I do research and I can read. Also, my comment was directed at yours for commenting on the specific video, I wasn't making general terms like you are to try and show off your knowledge. Why don't you read where I said, "this 229" pertaining to the one in the video, I didn't make a sweeping generalization like you did in both comments. You're still an asshole.

  • @Qasarean In this test who cares it is is dumb, as soon as this clown tried to say handgun rounds knock people down I tuned him out. Moron...........

  • It's unfair to position these tests as comparing handguns when they are really comparing cartridges. The P229 in 9mm would have a significantly different profile vs. the .40 S&W shown here, and would be a more direct comparison to the Glock 19. A controlled test on the range with a handful of shots also doesn't give the tester much of a chance to shoot himself in the leg or the foot as a number of officers have done pulling their "safe action" Glocks from the holster.

  • I'm sorry but I gotta say that 817 was low because. That gun is extremely well made and very accurate I could easily score over 900 with some practice.

  • Sig or Glock??? Hmmmmm. Flip a coin. They are both super dependable with a slight edger in accuracy going to Sig. Then again Glock is a little lighter. you really can't go wrong either way. IMO you should buy the one you shoot better. I own multiple examples of both brands and none are going anywhere. I would rather beat up a $400.00 Glock with the rigors of Police work than a $900.00 Sig. That is the only reason Glock gets more time on my hip.

  • Why did you give the Sig P229 363 points for a 40 S&W and the Glock 22 only 309. You chose to use a different grain bullet for the two and that is the only reason the Sig came out higher, otherwise the Glock had over a 50 point advantage. Seems real fishy.

  • It's painful to watch these midway vids. No real thought to each weapon. Points do not help anyone. I might as well believe the the Obama rhetoric as well!

  • popularity = good conealed weapon???

  • While I personally own a p229 Elite in 9mm I disagree it being a good concealed gun. It is a great compact open carry holster gun with good capability to use +p and +p+ ammo as well as being very accurate a trait that comes from sig greats such as the p226. I do also feel that Midway USA putting out a video like this that contains impractical information and being highly subjective without bon-efide empirical information reflects poorly on them even though they are a quality gun supplier.

  • I don't understand how accuracy can even be on this rating system. Someone definitely could be more/less accurate than Larry Potterfield, so why not run a controlled accuracy test with a machine firing the weapon?

  • These Midway USA videos are utterly useless. None of the tests they have performed are objective.

  • Yeah, the Sig Sauer p229 is a great gun, but is it ideal for concealed carry? Anyone thought about the size and weight of it? Isn't that an important factor? I personally wouldn't carry it 24/7, too bulky compared to many other smaller pistols.

  • Glock owners are sheeple, real pistols are made of metal.

  • While I dislike Glocks, thats a very narrowminded thing to say. Each to his own!

  • i post whatever i want and if u dont want nonsense post on here stop saying glocks are good guns and glocks are the ugliest guns on the face of the planet

  • Good guns?

Glocks are used by more militaries and police departments around the world, than any other gun.

Far as value and reliability, Glock is it.

I dont care about pretty or ugly guns.

I want one that goes bang, every time.

My Glock, my Sig and Makarovs do that.

  • @StSimonOfTrent

Not strictly true, the CZ 75 is used by more police and militaries worldwide than any other handgun.

The glock is the most popular US police carry gun tho. They are great, I prefer fully supported firing chambers tho.

  • In Europe, yes true.

CZ is most widely used, with a Glock twin polymer

In USA and North America, Glock is used by more Police Depts than any other gun

  • @StSimonOfTrent I agree 100%, Not only are they reliable and ugly, they are extremely accurate as well. Those 3 are some of the very best handguns ever made, period.... There is a reason why Communist countries choose the makarov for 60+ years, there is a reason why the Navy seals use Sig's, and there is a reason why 90% of police departments around the world use glocks.....

  • @StSimonOfTrent How do you like the Makarov?

  • @StSimonOfTrent 1/3 of the Police in the USA use Glocks. 1/3 of them carry Sig the rest a smattereing of all else. After having a Glock fail me twice now I will stick with Sig and S Feild XD

  • @unbeatableshooter

Matter of opinion, yes i agree they are ugly, but they are as accurate and reliable as you can get for the cost.

  • @SP3CTRE90 But of course saying that a Glock handgun is ugly is unmanly as saying that a MKII pineapple grenade is ugly.

  • Yes but comparing a 1911 to a glock is like comparing a slim blonde to a fat girl.

    M67 looks nicer than a MKII :D

  • Right you are but it's the fat ones who never let you down.

  • hi points ugliest gun on the planet then glocks not bad looking

  • glocks are the biggest piece of junks ever they suck and will never be what sig is

  • I think you overexaggerate just a bit

GLOCK is used by as many or more police and military troops than any other pistol.

    Its reliability is also legendary.

I own both but the Glock gets more carry duty due to weight.

I like them both, more partial to the Sig and steel but appreciate the simplicity and reliability of the Glock.

The beauty of the Glock is its simplicity

34 parts in the entire gun.

Sigs are just pure Quality, German Steel and oozing engineering prowess.

    Stop posting nonsense.

  • i post whatever i want if u want nonsense post stop saying glocks are good guns and they are the ugliest guns on the face of the earth

  • @StSimonOfTrent Ya it is used by many civilian, police, & security guards. Its only used in the french, Swedish and Polish army. Mostly because it is cheap most who have switched from glock to a more conventional none striker fired pistol will tell you there glock was not worth the 149 to 300 dollars less. The navy seals use the Sig sauer 226 navy model. The pistol glock submited failed horribly to there standards. But did well on the envrinomental tests like mud and salt solution soak.

  • Glock sales were record in the last year.

75% of US Police Market Share, 60% G22.

The Austrian, Finnish and Norwegian military use GLOCK 17

Militarys like an external safety, otherwise Glock'd be in use by even more. CZ gets the nod in Europe and NATO due to that fact.

Seals use Glock, with custom part firing pin to fire underwater.

The Glock 17 is certified for SEAL use. I dont know what youre talking about...?

Just compare the metal parts barrel and slide, sig can't even match it.

  • @StSimonOfTrent Actually i Do I have been reading alot of navy seal books by people like Lone Survivor By Marcus Luttrel, Warrior Soul Pfarrer, The Intutive warrior By Micheal Jaco, & The Element of Surprise. I also have watched well over 200 or 300 hours of navy seal video documentaries. You are mistaken the sig sauer Has produced over 1000 model p226 SO/SL pistol for the navy seal and various Security/homeland defensive operations.

  • @StSimonOfTrent The seals have ruled fireing a gun underwater uneffective considering a bullet fired underwater will only travel about 6 to 7 feet and is only deadly for about 2 to 3 also causes alot of wrist jolting recoil. The sig p226 SO/SL with or without silencer does not take on any water and can be fired imedietely when pulled out of water or submerged.Though fireing a gun underwater is useless.

  • @StSimonOfTrent The S&W model 39 aka hush puppy was used all the way into the sometime in the 80's then the berreta m9 wich though a great pistol sig sauer's p226 proved to be a little more favorable. Not to mention most of the seal history has aloud very open weapon training and selection and every old timer I have talked to hated glock.

  • @StSimonOfTrent The navy seals have a long history unique and odd firearms, such as the stoner 63A1, the pump action m79 40mm pump action grenade launcher, and even a modified m60 which sights where removed and feed fireing was its primary target acquisition. I don't know your sources but i have heard that the glock has been rejected by most of the armed forces in the usa and is limited to security guards, some swat, and cops in the usa.

  • Nothing odd about Glock, other than it was revolutionary and ahead of its time.

Standard Issue for Seals is Sig P226, but Glock is carried by many Seals.

You can research this well known fact.

The Glock 17 is available for special operations usage in "Sub Aqua" configuration which allows it to be fired effectively underwater

DEA, IRS, FBI and other agencies and militaries around the world use Glock

CZ75 & SP01 is also very popular with external safety, and excellent firearm & used by NATO.

  • @StSimonOfTrent Seals do not use glock there is a small tradition of non officers carrying random pistols concealed but some of those guys will even pick snubby's. The FBI does not issue a firearm individuals purchase there own with a tax credit kinda like a cop. Probly why the most exagerated and advertised pistol"the glock" is so common.

  • @StSimonOfTrent The fbi will even allow you to carry a double action only revolver that holds 5 shot if you can shoot a 3" group at 25yards. Glocks only parshly cocks the the fireing pin the biggest flaw is to decock the firearm is you have to fire it. A few weeks ago someone did just that at a gunshow in denver and shot someone else in the back. Yes that was stupid but so are glocks they are fare from accident proof.

  • What you describe is Operator error.

Dumb people shouldnt own dangerous tools, a Glock is a tool. Nothing more or less

Millions in heands of responsible people.

Before firing any gun-Glock or otherwise, check chamber and drop magazine.

Its not rocket science. All guns are loaded until verified they are empty.

Let me know where to send the bill.....:)

  • @StSimonOfTrent The cz 75 & the sp01 are great I have know problem as with most tda types. Its not that I don't like striker fire guns I love H&K's p7 for some odd reason also like the S&W M&P, some of the kahrs, aswell as the sig 250. But the glock is one of those guns I don't like so much like an springfield xd, a S&W sigma, or the ruger sr9.

  • GLock either fits your hand or it doesnt.

if it doesnt, there are others that do...M&P comes to mind or XDm

I like Glocks, I have large hands, I also like Sigs.

Glock is lighter and gets more carry duty than Sig for that reason, as both are dead reliable.

  • @StSimonOfTrent I have absolutely know problem with the grip it fits my hand well as with most guns its the trigger and the operation of pistol like the springfield xd,the glock, and the ruger sr9.There are know decocking mechanisms witch i can get over if the trigger safety system felt more like and actual safety and didn't interfer with fireing. The ruger sr9 is all right but it is completely double action only might as well get a revolver and the xd is pretty much the same as a glock.

  • @StSimonOfTrent The M&P with a trigger travel of .3 inches and 6.5lbs feels exactly like a clean piece of glass breaking on each shot like a good old 1911. I here the sig 250 is about the same very clean and reliable. I don't know why I like the old west german H&K p7 but it just feels good. The S&W sigma sucks its like an sr9 it is double action only very slow might aswell buy a revolver.

  • @StSimonOfTrent also glock as not worked to meet the american standards for the armed forces yes some of the more civilian divisions like the fbi, and the various police and swat forces seem to like glock but it will never meet the quality standards of the navy the army or especially the marinecorp. You know the people who actually use the guns.

  • Because require an External Safety for their Affirmative action recruits who are too stupid to carry a loaded weapon without one.

    Thats why.

It doesnt stop Glock from being used by Finland & Norway Military, Austria, Naval and Parachute regiments of French Armed forces, German Federal Police, Latvian Military, Military of the Netherlands, Swedish Armed Forces, IRS, DEA, FBI and countless other agencies & more Police depts choose Glock than any other handgun.

Now go and get your shine box.

  • @smartguy104 Well put. i could never see an infantryman using a glock. They're amazing weapons, no doubt, just couldn't see it being adopted in. I don't personally own one but i have many friends that do and i've shot most of the popular glock models that are out there. It's just not my taste in handguns. I'll never knock on it's reliability though. Still, i'm a Sig man. You simply cannot match up against German engineering when it comes to weaponry.Israeli Arms are right up there though.

  • Your an Idiot if you think Glock is a great pistol. It is a fun gun to shoot don't get me wrong. But is plastic and not too reliable like the Sigs and HK. It cost $1200 for a reason Navy Seals even adopted over the M9 Berretta. I shot Glocks , HKs and Sigs So far I love the Sigs. I think is the best handgun ever made besides the 1911 .

  • The Glock 22: America's best-selling police pistol

Guns Magazine, July 2008, Massad Ayoob

There are more reasons than low bid why this 16-shot .40 leads in US police handgun sales. More police depts have adopted the Glock 22 than any other.

FBI gives new agents their choice of a G22 or Glock 23.

Glock 22= standard issue, with numerous other state police agencies & sheriff's depts.

NASA 9mm Glock, NYPD Glock 9mm.

Blackwater uses Glocks because they are standard-issue for Dept. of State Personnel

  • @StSimonOfTrent

Blackwater has there own special model Sig. You can get the Sig "Blackwater" Edition....

  • @stevektek9 i wouldn't go around calling people who think glocks are great pistols "idiots". apparently you have some preference to sigs and hk's over glocks and that's fine. as a glock owner AND a sig owner, both are great guns and both have their pros and con's. the glock is HIGHLY reliable and because it's made of 'polymers' makes it ideal for carry. it's funny that many in LE and FBI use the glock seeing it's so "unreliable".

  • @stevektek9 the sig p229 sct is the model the navy seals use and it does NOT cost $1200. i know because i OWN one. i paid $900+ for it. so, exaggeration much? so know what you're talking about before you speak.

  • @StSimonOfTrent Your and Idiot go get some more experience before you make comments about SIgs. Glock is a plastic piece of shit that is just fun to shoot . But not very reliable or dependable. Trust me Sig is more expensive for a reason better track record and is built from solid steel and aluminum alloy. Not Plastic. And it very accurate right out of the box. I own one I should Know.

  • You cant even spell correctly. Go back to school and learn about guns while youre at it.

Glock 22 is used by More US Police agencies than any other handgun.

Price isnt an issue, as many Sigs are chosen.

Glock is lighter, larger mag & equally if not more reliable, especially with the Jew owned Sig Sauer at this time, quality is now crap by and large.

Navy Seals are issued Sigs & HKs but many opt for Glock, thats a fact, you can research.

Polymer is actually stronger than steel & rust proof

  • doesnt get better than sig

  • I love my 229. Purchased it brand new for $685 (USD), it came with night sights, 2 tone, rail, (3) 12rnd mags, gun case and lock, and even some decals. Can't beat it. I've shot a lot of other brands and I prefer Sig overall.

  • Sig Sauer, hands down is the best producer of pistols...period. If you've fired many other bands you will agree.

  • Also you would only need two firearms of about equil size to test. A 239 in 40 and a Glock 23 would do it because they are about the same size in grip and barrel length. The closest thing I have to the Glock 23 however is the 32 which is a different caliber. But even though it is a 357 Sig round it still recoils less than the Sig.

  • And B&R is in Havlock

  • the P229 can barely be considered a concealed carry gun. heck, the P239 can barely be considered concealed carry these days

  • Did we shrink lately or something? I mean, I agree that the P229 is a little chunky for CCW, but the 239 is pretty great. The problem is that, so long as you're comfortable with it's odd grip angle, the Glock 19/23 gives you the best of both worlds (size ~= 239, capacity > 229) and is lighter and has fewer moving parts.

  • Glocks do not have an odd grip angle.

  • id really like to see that whole knock down factor graph

  • cool animation and edit video... but that guy didn't convince me

  • and thats the way its not

  • Really good information...

  • As JSM put it..this is very subjective..(i.e.opinions) I wouldnt reccomend anyone take this video too serious and run out to spend almost a 1000 bucks. I bought a P229 for concealed carry and I really like it.However,IM a much better shot with my Glock 23 and the glock does tuck away a little better under a t-shirt and such. Both are great weapons.Trying to compare accuracy is garbage.Thats 100% dependant on shooter comfort and skill..

  • haha this guy looks so happy about it lol

  • this man probably carry Glock....he seems get used to it.

and, it does matter to the scores....

    not really a reliable testing

  • The concept of an "ideal concealed carry weapon" is very subjective anyway. All he can do is state his opinions. In the end, you have to decide what works best for you.

  • I have a 229. It's a nice machine. It's my serious home defense weapon as well. I keep it next to my tactical shotgun.

  • are you on a hit list by mexican cartels? a shotgun and a pistol? do you have kilos of cocaine in your basement?

  • I would only keep a pistol, a shotgun and pistol isnt neccessary I dont think.

  • @conspiracy777 Niiiice :)

  • love me a sig
