London is not a skyscraper city, it's only just starting to incorperate small clusters of skyscrapers. If these buildings were any taller, they would look out of place. Take the Shard, that will be the tallest building in Europe and it looks a monster on Londons skyline. I think small clusters of these buildings are the way for London. Trying to turn it into NY or Dubai would ruin a city rich in history and culture.

@charles198877 why does everyone think that a skyscraper must be REALLY tall, and possibly challenge the record, in order to be impressive? British Architects are very good, a lot of the stuff in Dubai and Azerbaijan that you see, was made by English Architects. The tallest bridge in the world was also done by a Brit. It's not like they can't make a really tall one, but if they did, it would stick out and would ruin the city's skyline. London is beautiful, it needs to stay that way.

@YoungTrapstarKB There's a lot happening. The Heron Tower is almost externally complete, the spire has been fitted. The Shard is racing up, it's core is around the same height as Guy's Hospital near it. Basement works are going ahead on the Bishopsgate Tower, Riverside South is on hold until JPMorgan make a final decision on whether or not to move in. There's still a few on hold, but there's certainly plenty to get excited about. :)

@YoungTrapstarKB u know this Shard building i hear it names like 20 times a day bcz i m doing |Civil Engineering at Uni and our lecturers give us example of Shard in every lecture, bt hey its Amazing and the people working on it are Genius koz i go pass near the building every day and they working fast i see a change in its structure everyday, Wish i could work on one of the sites like this on in the future, :)

I know that the Pinnacle is going to be 288metres, and I think the Shard is going to be something like 305metres.

Shard = Prep (construction starting 16th March)

Pinnacle = U/C

Heron = U/C and rising

Riverside South = U/C

Leadenhall = On Hold

Walkie Talkie = Piling and prep work

Strata (Elephant and Castle) = U/C

But I must agree with you, the design was quite funky, but it was too out of place. A building like that should, at the very least, be in a cluster, not on its own.

It wasn't exactly elegant was it...dunno when it happened, just remember reading about it being shelved a few days ago, i think the cheesegrater got cancelled too but cant be sure...
