I feel a slight loss of momentum just before the finale, like if an excessive tension had built up and he could not release it in a fluent and yet explosive manner. Even tough, a moment later they pull it all together and the flutes save the day. Truly amazing for a live performance.
Bravo for Yundi. But I don't appreciate the Hong Kong Philharmonic. First of all the beginning of this segment, the fe-fi-fo part was WAY to rushed. It should've been more pesante. If they played it heavier, it would have sounded almost decent. Poor Yundi Li, he had no choice, its his homeland. How could have he denied them.
To me, and I just have hear the Prokofiev Piano concertos 1,2 and 3, the 1st one is the most "obvious feelings or emotions", then the 3rd and,I start to hear the second and at first time I was in other mood, so I couldn´t take some part of the messenge (so speak) from the concerto... But now I´m obsessed with it, specially the 3rd and 4th movements... the 3rd has this very deep frustration, I think (4:49) and the 4th has a very lovely theme, after the cadenza part (don´t know if it is
I'm not surprised that in the premiere of this concerto, some people leave the theatre saying the concerto was a ----... I love this movement!!!! It's so "heavy", so... Prokofiev!!
TatTwamAsi really is right, it doesn't sound as delicate and subtle as when others play it. First part of the piano really sounds quite jagged in expression.
This is easily one of my favorite piano concertos, along with Leo Ornstein's and Tchaikovsky's first. Prokofiev's unique modern style can be both unnervingly beautiful (1st movement) and marked with dissonant ferocity (3d movement)
amazing piece. To anyone else If you can't enjoy this concerto from these people, I suggest you learn how to enjoy music before you learn how to play it.
amazing

TERRIBLE performance! (mainly due to the conductor ...). An elephant in a China store.
This is a very delicate, subtile but sarcastic (humoristic) peace (Intermezzo, for crying softly ...).
It is however played as a dark peace, as the conductor prescribed this concerto. But it is NOT!
This conductor must retire instantly!

Delicate? I can't lie in saying that Prokofiev wanted it this way. Since when is Prokofiev delicate?
