There are at least three studies which show that drivers' response to antilock brakes is to drive faster, follow closer and brake later, accounting for the failure of ABS to result in any measurable improvement in road safety. The studies were performed in Canada, Denmark and Germany. Search for "Risk Compensation"
@bmays002 Indeed, but ppl now-a-days believe "Its modern techonogy, so its better" and completely rely on them... They believe "no abs = crash".. if you take a look at the comments on these 4 videos I´ve made, you'll see a lot of ppl just hating.. good drivers Know ABS is not perfect, and driver should not rely on them.. doing so makes them more careless, seems like ppl stop worrying about some basic driving techniques. ABS is useless if you know how to drive.. personally I drive a manual car with no ABS, it's 27 years old and I'd consider it safer than most modern cars... even if I were to crash I'd still walk away... gotta love Mercedes.
@TimLenhartTech I agree, your car is only as safe as you drive it. The only real active safety features are Seatbelt and Cumpling zones ant that´s on the event of a crash, all other stuff is "optional" given that they are intented to prevent a collision. A lot of ppl overestimate auto-transmision and computer controlled features and it is then that they start texting, reading, eating, etc while driving... Spect the unespected when driving and you´ll be fine. Tnx for commenting
ABS is safer, but also it makes the driver lazy..after i left my non-ABS vehicle and got an ABS equipped car, whenever i drive the old one i always loose control on ice and i realize that don't have reflexes..on the other hand, a few days ago ABS saved my car from being crashed on high pavement as it allowed me to control steering on icy road..
um yeA i couldnt hit the brakes without anti lock, it was not going to stop! lol, i hit e-brake to start spinnin in the grass and my car would eventually stop, it was a very skinny road making it seem like i was goin 1000mph, my fastest reaction was e-brake to grass, brakes didnt even cross my mind, fuck it brakes dont work at this speed and distance! (i need a parachute in back of the car lol!)
same thing happened to me 2 years ago, i had a 3000gt without abs, i was going 100mph on opposite lane passing cars, when a car turned head on and i just hit e-brake to the right hoping my car would stop somewhere in the grass field next to it, little did i know there was a canal in that field, i fall in the canal and lckily my door henges broke when i hit the side rocks, now i have a 2000 civic without abs and know how to regulate the brakes
well sure locking the brakes work when you have abs
but i would lock the brakes going 20mph and the car just went even faster like if it was in ice or something.. going 120mph in a skinny little road and a situation appears its reallllly hard, in a german car it wouldnt be problem, but in a beast car like the 3000gt without abs its suicide.feels like the car is goin 1000mph and you dont have time to take chances..
@KINGBLAZE305 well you are going 100 and imagine the crash in your head would you rather pull the e brake and most likely spin out at that speed then totaled the car you could have lock the brakes or just not used the brakes at all and just steer your way out of it and maybe just have some suspension and under carriage damage from hitting bumps in the field most people would agree that hitting the e brake in a situation like that is probly the biggest chance you could take

If you know how to work brakes properly your going to stop in half the distance then stomping it and relying on abs.
