  • This isn't Malaguena, this is virgin de la macarena

  • Did Mr. Ferguson ever recorded with Perez-Prado Orchestra?

  • HEROxSabre yes you dipweed this is virgin de la macarena look up Stan Kenton malaguena then you will know the difference Stan kenton played the jazz band version of a guitar sole called malaguena and maynerd, who I love, played his own song that he called malaguena

  • My friend played this for his senior solo. incredible piece. but he played "La Virgen de la Macarena" same thing basically.

  • @spencerflorey16 Maynard did play with Stan Kenton. As the description under the video states, Maynard played with Kenton's Innovations Orchestra, and the smaller group Kenton formed after the orchestra.

  • Maynerd never play for stan kenton because stan kentons' big band had already broken up when maynerd came to the united states

  • @spencerflorey16 Hey...go look it up...Maynard DID play with Stan Kenton....

  • This is Maynard's version, which he simply calls"Macarena" from the early sixties LP "Color Him Wild". Many years later, it was re-released on the LP "Dues".

It is Maynard in his prime playing whatever he damn well pleases. He was insanely popular in the sixties, and deservedly so. DanV

  • I had a virgin macerana ....... just once...

  • Was this when he was playing with Stan Kenton?

  • @MrSuednym Short answer: no. Longer answer: no.

  • While this is a wonderful song, this is not Malaguena.. It's La Virgen de la Macarena...

  • @ErinEZMac good job copying my comnet

  • @spencerflorey16 good job being a bitter bitch.

  • this sounds more like El Toro Caliente

  • This is virgin de la macerana not maguena

  • @spencerflorey16 Hey derpwad, learn how to spell. And, if you listen to the whole song and not the first 2 seconds, you will find out that this is actually "Malaguena"

  • maynard forged his trumpet from the fires of mount doom, 9 for men, 7 for dwarfs, 3 for elves, but the only one worth shit was maynards

  • umm... i absolutely love the music, and i love the biography on maynards life, but u forgot to add that he went to india for awhile for that spiritual exploration...

  • Maynard played at my high school, i see the pictures and posters everyday. It must have been shortly before he died because he looked terrible. Unfortunately i wasn't in HS yet, but I'm sure it was great.

  • Best trumpet player ever,RIP Maynard Ferguson.

  • Excellent....but you should also chech Vlado Kumpan, a Slovak trumpeter from Germany :)

  • 4 people play woodwinds

  • wow i watched him and he didnt breath the whole time! he didnt even move!!

  • k how do you get music from youtube?!

  • @trumpetgirlmusic4evr go to youtube to mp3 converter, type in the url, then download the file/

  • @jonjo12321 thank you!!

  • Does anyone hear that delay? especially during the solo. I can here the pitches before he lands on them in the silence before he initiates the phrase? Is that a recording error or what? I'm confused. You might need to turn your headphones on full blast to catch it (why youre not already listening to maynard on full blast eludes me anyway)

  • @headslo This was when recordings were made on analog tape. What you're hearing is tape print-through. The tape is wound on a reel of course, and a faint copy of the flux pattern on the tape transfers from one layer of the tape to another. It happens throughout the tape but it's only audible in very quiet spots.

  • This is the spoofy "Macarena" from the Color Him Wild LP in the mid 60's. It was reissued on Dues.I need to inform you newbies about the birth of Acid Jazz with Maynard's sextet on the ten minute version of "Summertime", which is largely just far out trumpet.

During this era, Maynard, Dizzy etc. would cruise around smoking pot before going into Tim Leary's house to do LSD. Tim did not allow illegal drugs inside. LSD was legal! "Those were the days my friend; I thought they'd never end." DanV

  • This is "Macarena" off the album Dues.

  • seriously malawolf85 really should have researched these songs before posting them all. this isnt malaguena and scream machine/brass maching is not maynard ferguson.

  • What album is this from? I know it isn't Malaguena

  • Anyone besides me and Tokin60 notice that this is NOT Malaguena?

  • I think pretty soon we are going to need Zorro to show up to make things right in the Reading, Pennsylvania area. Too bad he is a myth.

  • Maynard fan from way back!

  • If I couldn't play high notes with quality, I wouldn't do it. But that's me.

  • The only reason three people could hate this, is if they were so awed by the piece, they didn't realized what they clicked

  • Over did the solo. Still loved it though.

  • wall of text crit for 300k.

  • i saw him right before he passed away :( sooo amazing

  • watch trumpet shout out

  • Ole!!!

  • ferguson loved lickin fat pussy n ass

  • Arturo sandal

  • La virgin de la macarena

  • i like arturos version better

  • Sounds more like el toro caliente

  • This dude is totally sick when it comes to playing high notes. Want the highlights? Jump to 4:15 and finish the song.

  • @stewkingjr that's why it's called the Maynard Ferguson Band. He hires the rest of them and pays their salaries. They are grateful. Butthead.

  • @stewkingjr

That's why he was Maynard and we're Not/

  • Ok so is this song actually by Ferguson or by someone else?

  • maynard played on a monette in his later years

  • Maynard had his own line of horns MF Horns. Think they were put out by Conn.

  • @nebmuzik

    Holton.

  • does anyone know what kind of trumpet maynard played, im just curious thanks

  • Anyone can convert this video to mp3 and download at soundnabber..com

  • eargasm...of sexy Latin music :D

  • I used a Jet tone mouthpiece, i transfered from the shilke 14a4a.I didnt have any issues with it at all..But yes alot of the other trumpet players could hardly get sound out of it.

  • @rickdace dude i did the same and im doing good on it to =D

  • yea this isnt malaguena...but it is a good song even though arturo sandoval is alot better at it

  • lol this isn't malaguena

  • Mr chilliwilly, or tiny dick unlimited - no lies, sunshine. Maybe some people get around more than your stupid self.

  • It isn´t the malagueña¡¡¡¡¡¡¡ :S

  • anyone know what type of mouthpiece he is using?

  • my god.. i have to play this :/

  • Wonderful!

  • This is Actually not malaguena this is actually a song called

La Virgen de la macarena by pablo mendez and the song was played in every "corrida de toros "(Bull Run) in Spain by a trumpeteer in the actual bull ring

(At least the concept came from this)

  • maynard was one of the 3 or 4 great screech trumpet players bill chase another buddy brisbois bu no boddy was better than cat anderson with the ellington band

  • I don't like to get into the "who's better" thing ... but ... I heard both Cat and MF live several times, and there is no comparison ... Cat screeched up there ... MF played ... big difference

  • @bluehorn50 Cat Anderson used two different mouthpieces, even during the same song. One for legitimate work and the other, which has been described as a "dented dime," was used for extreme high register playing. So, basically, he cheated. Cat would not have been able to play such high notes on Maynard's mouthpiece. In the '70s, Maynard used a Jet-Tone brand mouthpiece, which he is playing in this picture...very difficult for a normal trumpeter to play, so few did.

  • @Full4God Hence the reason I play Bass Trombone, one mouthpiece for me (coffee cup on a shank) and I'm good. xD

  • If you love this , be sure to check him out on La Fiesta and Conquistador!!!...

  • As pointed out, this is not Malaguena, but La Virgen de la Macarena. For an amazing performance of Malaguena, check out Blast! Malaguena on youtube!

  • I grew up with Maynard as my favourite trumpeter. I've met him a few times, and found him bright and witty, a great guy. This particular piece is superb, the whole band was on good form. Much appreciated.

  • @JAZZOLOGIST1 what a lie lier lier

  • WOW! This is so much better than his run of 70s covers, which had the drawbacks of sounding similar, having the same painful hard-edged sax and flute solos, and often under considerable influence of disco. Thanks for the post, mala. What albums is this sort of stuff on?

BTW, your bio doesn't give his date of birth. 1928, right?

  • Sound with B**** !!! Maynard was one the all time greats! Not just for highnotes, but for the quality of sound throughout his range! Always a good vibe tohear him play!

  • I don't know how is he able to play so high for long time... Like a machine!!! like it

  • this is a variation from the famous spanish piece La Virgen de la Macarena.......Maynard always amazing!!!!!!

  • isn't this el toro caliente?

  • Closer to his earlier recording of Olé.

  • Macarena...not Malaguena

  • esta melodia no es malagueña sino que es la virgen de la macarena,

  • If you like this,There is also another piece performed by Maynard Called "Ole" it's a great piece

  • Such a talented trumpet player, and performer in general. May he rest in peace.

  • This very much IS "La Virgin de la Malagueña" given the Maynard treatment, but very similar to Kenton's version.

  • Yes this is his version of "La Virgen de la Macarena." You can find it on his recording titled "Dues."

  • Thanks, Daniel

  • Yes

  • This is beautiful music. Can someone please tell me where to get the music notes?

  • yeah....get a trumpet or piano and figure it out...works on ear training!...and makes you a better musician

  • this is not maleguena but still insane!

  • i wish this recording wasn't so compressed. it makes his loud playing as impressive.

  • idk is he had hernias from that, but that's beside the point, this guy is crazy good. He was amazing.

  • Maynard Ferguson is a great trumpeter. But didn't he have 5 hernia operations because of playing the trumpet? I played trumpet for years, not I have a esophegeal hernia and I cannot play right not. I love the trumpet!!

  • i'm pretty sure that jack white from the white stripes took the main riff and feel of this song to write conquest, they sound very, very similar, anyone else agree?

  • I'm thinking not. 2 notes are similar.

  • conquest wasn't written by the white stripes it was written by corky robbins in the 50s and the white stripes covered it

  • my jaw is on.. the.. FLOOR... this is the first time I EVER heard that song and from the screamer himself. So awesome..

  • I have to agree that this IS NOT MALAGUENA!!! It is LA VIRGEN DE LA MACARENA!!! If you type it in there are many different people playing this melody.. So I suggest people go back and listen to Malaguena and La Virgen de la Macarena..

  • Yes, La Virgen La Macarena, on the Mainstream Album Color Him Wild. I highly recommend this somewhat obscure LP. I think I like these cadenzas even more than the ones on Ole. And for a completely different perspective on his musical soul, check out his luscious, sensitive, nuanced playing (OK, so I love him) on the ballad Baltimore Oriole.

  • you guys sould just be happy someone put it up here, stop whining about what its called. If you know your music, then you know, and if you know that, then you must have tried to play this at some point, and epiclly failed at it, so now we all know. :)

  • This song is not that rhythmically hard.

  • this is a great peice and this dude plays it very well!

  • it isn`t malagueña, this song is called la virgen de la macarena

  • who really gives a shit about the damn title its a great song and if u ask me thats all that matters :)

  • Love the solo!

  • This is, without a doubt, NOT Malagueña. I have played two different arrangements of it before, but even they had the melody the same. This isn't it, but still a great song.

  • Try some research before you open your trap. This isn't it. Nice try, RETARD. Look above. It's called "La Virgen de la Macarena." IDIOT! You really should get your facts straight before you go calling people out, dumbass!!! People like you, fake people who think they know better than others, really piss me off. I'm right and you can look it up anywhere. I have the fucking sheet music for La Virgen de la Macarena, and guess what? THIS IS IT!!! Way to look like a jackass for the entire web to see.

  • Malaguena.... Im performing this soon and its the same melody and all..

  • im doing both malaguena and la virgen for my field show both different

  • me 2

  • as far as i'm concerned, the name is not important.i just know it was a freakin awesome song and thats what its all about, not a name.

  • The correct name of the selection is important, shaugen99.

The internet is full of false information and it is unacceptable for something like this to go unaddressed.

  • The name of this song is "La Virgen de la Macarena".

  • Definently not Malaguena... it has a cousin simularity to it but it's not it lol

  • In fact it is.

  • it's malaguena

  • great, high,crisp,clear talent

  • Actually on the album it is just called just Macarena...

  • this is la virgin de la macarena not maleguena

  • yeah i was about to say...definatly not malaquena
