Because depending on how many cuts/effects/crazy antics you do, it can take a long time to compile it into just a few minutes. Longer then you'd expect. Or are you asking why people are doing it? Because if that's the case that's like asking why someone plays sports. It's recreation.

Hey, wow, for a quicky, this was pretty good! While the jumps were off at points, I liked the very original use of changes in the music. And hey, I hate country (and the old "Romeo and Juliet" cliche), but I was able to watch the whole thing and enjoy it.
