Skaters swing their sticks quite often when a play doesn't go their way, but they're not called for slashing either. Yes, it was a HARD, full (angry) swing, but I don't think it's unsportsmanlike to be upset about giving up a goal. I'd say that's being competitive. The fact he did it angrily should count against him, but the NHL isn't going to suspend a player for an accident. The coach should have benched him.
